That was all on Pietrangelo recognizing Florida was changing (on the long change) and getting it up to Eichel quickly on the far boards. Very heady play by him and Eichel.

This feels like 2012 Game 6. Bernier gets ejected in that game, the Kings pump the Devils on the major PP, and it was a party the rest of the way.

Also, as a 90s kid, starting a tradition of singing My Own Worst Enemy is odd, but not bad.

Pretty impressive run through the playoffs. I think the closest they really came to losing it was game 5 against the Oilers. They had a lead but could not stop the Oiler’s power play. They took a terrible 5 minute major and held the Oilers to one goal and then shut them down on a later power play in a one goal game. That series was right on the edge but after that they really never looked back. I think they have a +30 GD for the playoffs.

This is why my PDO post from last week should make us rethink the stat. Yes, PDO in the short term is a good indicator of an unsustainable process (either an ungodly Sv% or Sh%), but at ~20 games, does it maybe indicate a dominance over the field?

I think both things can be true — that the Knights were really good and also lucked into some bad goaltending. I think Bob and the Oilers’ keepers just were not good enough. But they are worthy champions. You feel like they could play the Panthers 100 times and not lose 4 of 7.

The Panthers were a bit of a one trick pony. Their trick was really good. They were relentless in the corners and were able to get pucks coming out front from behind keepers. It was hugely effective. Until they ran into a team that was just too big and strong. The Panthers can’t get possession in the corners against these guys. Not close. They just get moved off the puck. And they have no idea what to do about it. They are inferior between the goal lines. And that’s where Vegas has made them play.

Would you believe it if I told you that the best goalie they faced was possibly Conor Hellebuyck? Skinner was awful all playoffs by goals saved above average. So was Oettinger. Bobrovskiy was great…except this round.

But again, are they just running into bad goalies or are they making good goalies look bad?
