Bebe leaves Benfica to join Eibar. He was signed as a project for Jorge Jesus. Once JJ left the club, so did any chance of Bebe breaking through the club.

Good for Eibar, the smallest team in La Liga, for signing someone of this caliber. Even if Bebe has never lived up to expectations, it's a good move for a team that needs to find lightning in a bottle.

He's a funny player. He's got a nice right foot and can score some sweet goals, but has never been a consistent player. When he was playing for Pacos de Ferreira, he displayed some of whatever it was that got him on ManU. He's still "just" 26.

Gotze to Dortmund official, 28M Euro transfer fee. For all the Belgium fans out there, myself included, Wilmots has been fired as the NT manager.

There were discussions about how much the KVBV owed Wilmots being prohibitive, but it looks they made the tough call. They need to try something different- there's too much talent there to perform the way they have in the last two tournaments.

I'm guessing they settle on 120M Euros. They will need the money to cover a substantial acquisition or two to cover Pogba's quality and probably make a couple of expensive bets.

Atletico and Barcelona are both being linked to Kevin Gameiro, the 29-year-old French striker who is currently at Sevilla. Gameiro scored 29 goals last year, so he's viewed as a reliable attacking option. For Atletico, he's Option B: the first choice is Diego Costa, but he's proving very difficult to pry away from Chelsea. For Barcelona, it's hard to say if they prefer Gameiro or Vietto, the Atletico striker.

Higuain to Juventus is all but official, per many sources. They paid his full 94M euro release clause, which is a pretty monstrous sum for a striker that will turn 29 next winter. Serie A has been kind to older strikers in general and Higuain isn't a player that relies on blistering pace so maybe they figure they'll still get 4-5 good years out of him.

Juventus has really loaded up this window - Alves, Benatia, Higuain, Pjanic, and Pjaca, with Brazilian teen Gabigol also heavily rumored to be heading there. Even after selling Pogba, which seems inevitable, that seems like a net improvement. They clearly think they can challenge for the Champions League and it'll be interesting to see how they do.

There's been some rumors regarding Bonnucci. I'd be surprised to see him leave, but if he does, they could buy another MF to fill the Pogba void (Barcelona for example, have too many midfielders ATM).

Serie A should not be a one-team title procession every year. (Sigh...)
Some quick and dirty research shows that no team has won 6 Scudettos in a row since Serie A was formed. Several teams have won 5 in a row, including currently Juve (12-16), Inter (6-10), Torino (42-49 - several years cancelled due to WWII), and Juve back in the day (31-35).

In Spain, Real have won 5 in a row twice (61-65, 86-90), and Barca have won 4 in a row once (91-94).

In Germany, Bayern are currently on a streak of 4 straight going back to '13, but otherwise, no other team has won 4 in a row. 'gladbach is the only other team to have won 3 in a row (75-77).

In England, 4 clubs have won 3 in a row. Huddersfield Town (!) (24-26), Arsenal (33-35), Liverpool (82-84), and Man U twice (99-01, 07-09).

Edit: I wasn't refuting your point Conig, just looking at fun numbers.

Here are the longest consecutive title streaks I could find:

Skonto FC (Latvia) 14: 1991-2004
Rosenborg BK (Norway) 13: 1992-2004
Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) 11: 2006-present

Kevin Gameiro, the French striker from Sevilla, has signed with Atletico. He's a solid player, for sure: he scored 29 goals last year between all competitions.

The thing is that Gameiro was Atletico's fifth choice. Atleti pursued Higuian, Aubameyang, Costa, and Cavani, and missed out on all four. It seems that Atletico got close to Costa but Chelsea refused to let him leave.

I'm still a bit crazy to think Atletico will sign Costa, loan out Correa, and sell Oliver Torres, Manquillo, and Borja Baston to generate cash to fund the transfer. And, even though it's a bit nuts, I could see Atletico moving Gimenez, the young CB, if Simeone really wanted Costa.

Fake edit: One benefit of Atletico's summer deals is that they kept talent away from Barcelona. Barcelona was apparently interested in Vietto, whom Atletico shipped to Sevilla. Then, Barcelona supposedly showed interest in Gameiro, only for Atletico to pick him up.

I still anticipate Barcelona will sign someone to come off the bench for Messi/Neymar/Suarez, but I feel good that they, too, may be working on their third or fourth option now.

So Jonathan Calleri who had 16 goals in 31 games at Sao Paolo just said on Argentine TV that he has signed with West Ham and is now waiting on a work permit. Rumors were he was deciding between WH, Spurs and Inter.

Koke to Schalke. If true, would be a pretty significant shift from the rojiblancos.
You almost gave me a heart attack, but wonderland is right: Coke, from Sevilla, is moving to Schalke.

Monchi, Sevilla's very talented sporting director, admitted selling Coke was a mistake almost immediately after the move was finalized:

"I have a bad taste in my mouth because in this transfer we made a mistake, we have lost someone who is very important. We are not just losing a player, we are not losing a right-back, we are not losing a captain, we are losing the heart of the team, a player who always gave his all for the club."

For the second Summer in a row Bedoya is being closely linked to my Philadelphia Union. They were willing to drop a 1mm transfer fee last year in what would be the clubs largest financial move ever. It will also continue their effort to spend their entire salary cap in the midfield. For that reason I don't get the fit, but it may move Maurice Edu to CB upon his return.

Since his name will surely be talked about for US Soccer in the future, allow me to take a minute for an Ernie Stewart plug. The Union has been a miserably run franchise. Ernie came in, brought in a few Euro players and had a good MLS draft, and even with Mo Edu, the teams highest paid player out for the entire year this far, this team spent the majority of the season in first place and looks to be in a good playoff position. I'm very happy with the professionalism that Ernie has brought to a team whose front office was a joke.

Holy shit, mea culpa.

The Florian Thauvin saga progresses as Newcastle loans him to Marseille for the second time, this time with an "obligation-to-buy" clause where Marseille has any obligation to make the move permanent at the end of the loan. I've seen option-to-buy clauses, but I've never seen an obligation-to-buy clause. Has anyone heard of that before?

edit- reading more on this here http://www.themag.co.uk/2016/08/confirmed-marseille-announce-signing-florian-thauvin-newcastle-united/
Not confirmed but Marseille will send £9m eventually to Newcastle but seems NUFC will chip in some salary to Marseille during the loan. NUFC bought him from Marseille for £14 last year, but sent him back to Marseille in January

Let's see what Milan and Inter do with their new owners, but right now Juventus is both the richest (by a lot) and the best run club in the league. Six titles running is unprecedented, but so is the current gap between the best club and everyone else.

Only the Chinese can stop this.

Two signings for West Ham today:
Arthur Masuaku - 22 year old French LB from Olympiakos for 6M. Seems likely to start while Cresswell is out.
Andre Ayew from Swansea for 20M. They wanted him last year (he and Payet had paired up in Marseilles) but FFP restrictions meant they couldn't give him the salary Swansea offered and still give Payet his deal.

Not familiar with Masuaku, but Ayew had 12 goals and started 34 games. Considering that no one on WHU had more than 9 goals in the EPL last year, seems like it could really bolster their offense. Great signing IMO.

ManU signs Pogba for £89 million, and Arsenal are struggling to sign a 20 million defender they desperately need. Wenger definetly calculates the tip at a restaurant.
