The thing about this Rams/Bengals Super Bowl is that there was a lead change with less than 2 minutes left, which no matter what else happens in the Super Bowl to me elevates the game. The '04 Pats/Eagles SB didn't have a 4th quarter lead change, and the Pats were up by 2 scores for most of it. Actually, in terms of a Pats Super Bowl, the closest comparison might be (shudder) 2011 vs. the Giants, where the Pats led for most of the 2nd half and missed a chance to put the game away, then the Giants put together a methodical 4th quarter scoring drive with some weirdness down by the goal line (Bradshaw falling into the end zone).
Another similar SB to me was the Bengals/49ers Super Bowl in '88, Montana's "Isn't that John Candy?" moment where he led a methodical scoring drive to win what to that point was a relatively low scoring, not massively memorable Super Bowl (tied 3-3 at halftime).
Agree with all of this, as well as sympathizing with
@Rudy's Curve. The pain of 1996, 2007, 2011, 2017 never really go away, but I tried to consider it the cost of rooting for one of the top teams and QBs: higher highs and lower lows. Even after losing to the Favre Packers in '96 I was just so amazed that the lowly Patriots had one of the end zones painted with their logos in the Super Bowl.
I know it's cold comfort now, but as BSF says Burrow and the Bengals appear as well positioned as anyone in the next few seasons to get back to the Super Bowl, while the Rams went all in for 2021 and face some veteran departures, draft pick losses, and salary cap issues.
