I have no beef with Philly. I love Hurts. Hating Philly seems like that saying about loathing most in others what you dislike in yourself. They’re a midsized historic city with a decent amount of heartbreak; historically less than ours, but they’ve also not had the past 2 decades we did. Their fans can be vile, so can ours.

We beat them in a close SB. They beat us in a close SB where we couldn’t get one damn stop.

In fact, losing to the Eagles was the most palatable championship loss in the last 20 years because of that video of a fan eating horse shit to celebrate. If you’re gonna lose to a city with a fan base that’s going to try to dance on you, it’s nice to be able to just send that video back in response. I didn’t see any other fan base giving us such an easy out in defeat.

Philly possessions that SB:

FG
TD
Punt
TD
INT
TD
TD (when they suddenly changed the rule on what constitutes a catch)
FG
TD
FG

So TWO whole stops actually!!!

That game was nuts. Brady threw for 505 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions and they lost. The Pats gained *613* (!!!) yards and they lost. The Pats only had 1 penalty (compared to 6 for Philly) and they lost.

And when is the NFL going to can that rugby formation pile push teams now use on QB sneaks and close to the goal line, not sure when that became a thing, but it's complete and utter bullshit to be able to push a guy into the end zone or forward for a first down, as if the NFL wasn't a big enough clownshow to begin with.
Agree with this. I am generally for innovation among teams using new and different formations, but this isn't fun to watch, is counter to the spirit of the rules where someone should be advancing the ball on their own and seems unsafe to boot.

And the INT was kind of a lucky bounce. Just got completely owned. Was at the game and never felt comfortable, even after Gronk took the lead in the 4th. You should knew they’d come right back. And they did. Only hope was Brady magic but the OL ruined that.

Well here's the thing. Philly couldn't really stop New England either. The Pats missed a 26 yard field goal, and then Brady had the fumble. Otherwise, they scored all the time too (except for running out of time at the end of the first and second halves). The Pats were down and 38-33 with the ball late in the game, and they had scored TDs their previous three possessions. Then Brady got hit on the ONE sack of the game, and fumbled, and it bounced right to the Eagles, and that led to the clinching FG. I really believe that without that fumble, the Pats go down and score and win the game.

This is mostly where I am. I can't stand the Sixers (the process made a mockery of professional team sports, therefore I I'll root against them before all others until Embiid is gone), but other than that, it's meh. I like watching Hurts.

Yup. Philly needed to get to Brady and they knew it. He wasn’t throwing a pick and was destroying them. Just an incredibly inopportune breakdown. And he did all of this without Cooks most of the game.

The worst was when they gave KC a first down when their receiver reached the ball towards the line to gain, then voluntarily pulled it back, and was a yard short when his knee hit the ground. They gave him "forward progress" even though the rule explicitly says that's not how you rule on that kind of play (except for the goal line). That call even went to replay, where they had time to converse and collaborate and STILL essentially broke the rules in order to give KC a first down.
Was there any explanation given on the play where the Bengals stopped the Chiefs on third down, but the play was blown dead and the Chiefs were handed another chance to pick up the first down? What did that ref blow the play dead for?

Because the play before was an incompletion. The ball wasn’t spotted correctly by a half yard. The play clock was down to 10. The ref halted the game to have the ball spotted correctly. When the play clock resumed, the game clock also started to run. The back judge came running in to shut down the play and have the game clock corrected, but it was hard to notice him when it happened.

Official time is kept on the field, right? Couldn’t they have just added the two seconds back after the play was over? Absolute no one saw the back judge running into the play.

I’m a bit biased being married to a hardcore Philly fan but I find this version of the Eagles hard to actively dislike compared to KC. The 2017 team that beat the Pats got on my nerves a lot more (there’s only 5 players left from that team) and Sirianni seems like a solid young coach.

It's a cliche to say there's holding on every play, but the refs must've gotten a memo from New York at halftime of that game to say that offensive holding no longer exists.

Yep, they didn't call a single offensive holding penalty all game, if I recall correctly.

Yet they changed what constituted a catch, which allowed Clement's TD reception to stand, when all year long, that, by definition, would NOT have been ruled a catch.

I am convinced if Hightower played in that game, the Pats win. The guy would have either made a huge play or kept the defense's shit together. It's hard to believe that Patricia was hired as a head coach by a team after this game. Of course, hindsight is 20/20.

The reality is that he was hired before the game, in that the decision had been made. Lions are gonna Lions, but man, I'd have had some questions after that game.

Well Nick Foles somehow was in superhero mode that entire postseason. He ripped through everyone.

Plus no offensive holding calls made offense very easy that day for both sides.

Plus a touchdown that shouldn’t have counted.

Plus a crazy trick play on fourth down that resulted in a TD, which they wouldn’t have tried under normal circumstances.

Add that together and you get a lot of points scored.

Crazy day.

Even more directly Patricia -- If Malcolm Butler played, the Pats probably win. He may not have been playing too well by that point but he was still a good tackler and better than Eric Rowe.

See, I’m actually rooting for Philly and don’t harbor any resentment over 52. Or 42/46 for that matter. I do, however, hate the Chiefs quite a bit. Plus, my brother is an Eagles fan.

So it's a push then between liking either of the two teams, right? I know that the character issue was being pushed a bit by KC haters.
I haven’t read the articles yet, but if Philly knew and sat in this - and it’s an allegation from 2019 so that seems likely - they might’ve even snuck ahead.

No offense, but I don't like this matchup. I have a strong dislike for both teams.
Is there a way both teams could lose? I would prefer that.
Rooting for Philly feels yucky. I have a feeling Mahomes pulls one out in a similar fashion as last night.
Gawd, but it’s really close isn’t it?

It’s that awful feeling you get when you know you’re coming down with something, but you can’t throw it up and you can’t shit it out.
Bummed about this matchup. I feel the way about Mahomes the way the rest of the nation felt about Brady for most of his NE tenure (whiny, commentators shower him with comments like the second coming, etc.) and I feel the way about the Eagles fanbase the way the rest of the nation feels about the Pats fanbase (loud, arrogant, entitled, the only team that matters, everyone against them forever and always, etc.). If the Eagles team was in KC, I would probably even be actively cheering for them. But they are not, so go Mahomes, I guess. That said... I think the Eagles take this one sadly.
This is the matchup that least interested me going into the postseason. I'll probably watch an old Patriots playoff win instead.
Waiter? Can I get 7 bowls of dicks for these guys to eat?

Thank you.

It looks like Sills - who is a reserve OL - hasn’t played a single offensive snap this season. So I don’t think his presence makes a bit of difference to oddsmakers or bettors.

I don’t think there will be any line movement until bettors see how healthy the Chiefs wide receivers are and if they‘re all practicing when the team gets to Arizona.

With all due respect, BG came from his open side. Should the OL have stopped him? Well, not to put too fine a point on the "WAAAAHHHH They changed the TD Rule" bullshit, but the Patriots OL held a high-powered DL on every single play. The refs didn't want to get in the way of the game, I get it, but my hunch is that the refs talked to the OL and said "hey guys.....this game is close, we need to tighten up on the holds and hence, BG got through.

Regardless Brady should never have tried to make that pass. In a game where he was damn near perfect, he made a rookie mistake. Tuck it in, live another play.

It was a very nice play by BG and Brady should have gotten rid of it sooner. He was looking deep and missed White WIDE open in the flat. Should have just taken the first. He was getting chunk plays all game so understand why but in that situation with 2+ mins to go, just move the chains.

Pats clearly had opportunities to make a play on defense and didn’t. Such is life. This SB loss never really bothered me much outside of the Butler decision and Cooks’ stupid hurdle attempt. Pats D didn’t deserve to win and Brady was only reason why they didn’t get trounced.

While I agree that Cooks could've made a better decision on the hurdle (like....."not hurdle and drive for the first") against a very good tackler in McLeod, he was insanely unlucky to run literally straight into a full steam of Malcolm Jenkins that knocked him out of the game.

That was awful.

Three plays bothered me that game.

1) Cooks hurdle
2) Brady drop on Philly special
3) Philly converting on the 4th down with the score 33-32
Controversial opinion......Amendola's throw was not good. I think he got overly anxious and didn't slow up after the handoff. He ended up throwing it about 1 foot higher than he wanted it, which was enough to make Brady have to leap. Brady probably should have caught that by keeping his eyes on it a bit better, but still. I feel like Brady gets overly criticized for that play.

The other factor was Brady's thumb.

As for the throw, it's kind of like Brady's throw to Welker in the 2nd Giants SB. Was it perfect? No. Should it have been caught? Yes.

I think Chris Long recognizing the pass coming and dropping back caused Amendola to throw it higher than he wanted to.

Yeah, that was more bad luck and I'm not sure the Cooks injury really mattered since Amendola had such a good game. Ultimately, despite the disappointment of my team losing, that was a really fun game to go to. The Eagles fans were LOUD and more numerous and I was nervous about Pederson's aggressive playcalling. It's how you had to approach the TB12/BB combo. Can't sit back. Take it to them. And they did. I'll always believe that the Pats beat Carson Wentz though :)

I think watching that play it's pretty clear Brady knew he had White in the flat and wanted to peek at the middle of the field before checking down. Protection was good and they were ripping the Eagles on intermediate and deep throws all game long, that was probably an example of him being too greedy.

I'm surprised the defense hasn't responded in kind, with players directly behind the line to make a moving defensive pile when the offense puts two players next to the QB before the sneak.

Yeah, I think he knew White was there. Think he was looking at Gronk down the field. Have never seen the all-22 on that one to see if a big play was coming but I think you simply take the "safe" play in that spot. Would have been an easy first and I think maybe even 10-15+ yards given the space. Definitely felt like a game where a key turnover was needed to secure the win. And Philly got it.

Ironically, Brady had such incredible success taking the safe play for the vast majority of his career. It's where the system QB label came from originally.

And it's what he did against the Falcons and Seahawks. Crazy thing is that he had 505 yards WITH that strip sack. If Graham doesn't make a great play, he almost certainly gets 50+ more. Hard not to feel like Superman when you're putting up those kind of silly numbers.
