He doesn't qualify for the 5 year 30% max now. Deal is a 5 year 25% max, which becomes a 30% max if he makes all NBA(or MVP or DPOY) this year.Theoretically, they could have spun the wheel this season and if Tatum doesn't make all-NBA again, he doesn't qualify for the 5 year / 30% Max deal, only the 25% Max deal, right?
With doing that guaranteed to piss him off, I'm not saying Ainge should have done that, just curious how much that inclusion on the all-NBA 3rd team cost Wyc (and our roster flexibility).
If Tatum isn't All-NBA next year, then he's not the player we think he can be, and the Celtics are screwed. Their only road to a championship is on the back of Tatum putting himself in the MVP conversation. Might as well bet on that outcome.Theoretically, they could have spun the wheel this season and if Tatum doesn't make all-NBA again, he doesn't qualify for the 5 year / 30% Max deal, only the 25% Max deal, right?

Just be ready to sign Mitchell in 4 years and it won’t matter.
Pretty normal, no? Basically all max contracts have a player option year on the end to give the player the most value possible.
Not sure I think it is. I’m just having PTSD over player options at this stage.Pretty normal, no? Basically all max contracts have a player option year on the end to give the player the most value possible.
Well, not necessarily--because voters are stupid and things happen. But seeing how he got it this season, it should work out.If Tatum isn't All-NBA next year, then he's not the player we think he can be, and the Celtics are screwed
The contract doesn't begin until after next season. We still have 5 seasons before the option.
I mean, honestly just missing all-nba would probably be good for the Celtics if it's a snub. Save a bunch of money on the same caliber of player. If Tatum isn't All-NBA next year, then he's not the player we think he can be, and the Celtics are screwed. Also, if he wants out he'll be pushing for a trade before the option year even comes upThe contract doesn't begin until after next season. We still have 5 seasons before the option.
We have no idea what the CBA will look like in 5 years either. The max could be gone.
If he doesn't make all nba we can get rudy to investigate the voting and conclude he made All NBA 3rd total landscaping team.Well, not necessarily--because voters are stupid and things happen. But seeing how he got it this season, it should work out.
Jaylen leaving when his contract is up will be a sign too. Also, if he wants out he'll be pushing for a trade before the option year even comes up
Yeah. Can we not worry about 4 years down the road? He clearly wants to be here now. Also, if he wants out he'll be pushing for a trade before the option year even comes up
Did Fox and Mitchell get the option? Quick Google isn't revealing it.No one should be disappointed about the player option. That is standard at this point in the nba for a max player.
Mitchell did.Did Fox and Mitchell get the option? Quick Google isn't revealing it.
This isn't entirely true. Players have no leverage on their 2nd contract.Yeah. Can we not worry about 4 years down the road? He clearly wants to be here now.
He's got too much hype to be snubbed, especially considering he made the 3rd team this past season. Best chance is that he misses 20 games with an injury, it heals completely and he's fine before the playoffs, but a guy who misses that much time isn't making all-nba (unless they are a legit MVP candidate).I mean, honestly just missing all-nba would probably be good for the Celtics if it's a snub. Save a bunch of money on the same caliber of player.
Good for Tatum for getting leverage for the last year of the contract. Looking forward to seeing him in Celtic green for the next five years.Player options in the rookie max deal is actually not a normal thing per Lowe. View: https://twitter.com/zachlowe_nba/status/1330637984388030466?s=21
Word.Yeah. Can we not worry about 4 years down the road? He clearly wants to be here now.
Ha.Word.
I'll be grateful if we're all still alive in four years.
4 years is a full presidential term, and the current one feels like it lasted at least a decade. I'm not worried now about where Tatum is gonna play in his mid 30s, so this is fine.Word.

Why? I thought we established long ago that player options are good for the team. Not sure I think it is. I’m just having PTSD over player options at this stage.
Tatum and his mother, Brandy Cole, had a brief toast, and Tatum’s 3-year-old son, Deuce, was happy but did not quite know what the fuss was about. But he caught on rather quickly.
“We were trying to get him to say congrats,” Cole said by phone Sunday night. “And I said, ‘Tell daddy, ‘Show me the money.’ And he was like ‘Show me the money!’”
Also interesting to note is that Donovan’s #45 is not retired by the Celtics.
I was pushing hard for Eric Fernsten, but it never gained momentum. Also interesting to note is that Donovan’s #45 is not retired by the Celtics.
It should be. There should only be one #45 in Boston. Also interesting to note is that Donovan’s #45 is not retired by the Celtics.
