Tiafoe fights off some more break points and holds again, 5-3 now.

Sloane Stephens took the first set from Kvitova, who is always a contender here. 1-1 in the second now.

Ooh, Stephens pulled out a service game and then broke, up a break now at 4-3 and two games away from a huge win for her.

Sinner out in the first round also, Novak’s half gets even weaker.

Federer is in a ton of trouble after splitting the first two sets and now down a break 3-5 in the third. Mannarino has played smart, but Fed is making a fair amount of errors...at one point he made I think 4 forehand errors in a row in the 2nd set breaker.

Fed up an early break 3-0 in 4th now. Toughest thing for an underdog to do in these conditions is actually finish the job, so I still like Fed's chances here but he's got to limit the FH errors.

Mannarino goes down with a knee injury, up 2-1 in sets and down 4-2 in the 4th.

It’s started again. Roger has shanked so many forehands this match. Even for winners, a lot of them haven’t been clean.

Talk about Difficult to watch, this Serena Williams match is rough

Serena started well..Footing on center court seems awful. She skidded a little bit on a point. Then a couple points after she came up hobbled after a serve. She took an injury timeout and came back. Was able to finish one more game on return. Then on her serve, she was openly crying getting ready to serve. Then on the 3rd point, she completely collapsed and the match was over.

Rough day for Wimbledon with 2 players in a row getting injured because of playing conditions on Center Court

And #11 Carreno Busto and #28 Isner out on the men's side.
Carreno Busto has never won a match in main draw at Wimby so not a huge surprise Querrey beat him. Nice opening for Sam here with 91st ranked Duckworth next, and then lines up with 23rd seeded Lorenzo Sonego in 3rd round, who has had the bulk of his success on clay.

Pretty impressive 5 set victory for Kyrgios over 21st seeded Humbert...still can't believe they suspended this one last night, thought it would give Humbert the advantage against a "out of shape" Kyrgios, happy to be wrong.

Kyrgios outlasts Humbert 9-7 in the 5th. It would be something if he goes on a run and meets Djokovic in the Quarterfinals.

Edit: Looks like I misread the draw and Nick is actually in Zverev’s Quarter.

On the women's side , not that we' won't see a bunch of upsets, but the quarters set up as

Barty - Andreescu (Azerenka could be an option here)
Svitolina - Williams (Williams could face Kerber in 3rd round, and winner of Gauf/Bencic in 4th round)
Kenin - Pliskova
Sabalenka - Swiatek (The always unpredictable and Dangerous Muguruzu could be waiting in 4th round for Swiatek )
Kenin, Andreescu and Bencic all eliminated today, Williams yesterday, so this list is already thinning out.

#3 Svitolina is out though, that is Coco’s quarter if she can keep going.

Coco through with relative ease over Vesnina 4&3. She seems to be handling the pressure that comes with expectations pretty well so far. And now onto Fed vs Gasquet...I could watch these two trade one handers all day...

Azarenka out too, the top half really opening up for Barty.

Jabeur takes out Muguruza, impressive level of play. She was down 7-5, 3-3 and won 9 of 11 games to take out the former champ.

Tough sledding for Americans so far with Stephens, Brengle, Rogers, & Tiafoe all going down. And Kudla will likely follow suit against Djokovic. On the brighter side of things, Seb Korda (making his stadium court debut) just took the first set against 22nd seeded Brit Daniel Evans

Awesome first week match shaping up between Shapavolov and Murray on the comeback trail. Shap got off to a 5-1 lead in the 1st, but Murray fought back and closed it to 5-4 and had break points to tie it at 5, but Shapavolov held on and won the first set 6-4. Murray played five sets last round but if he is in shape for another long match, these two might be here a while.

Or not, 6-2 second set to Shapovalov and he's up 4-0 in the 3rd. Shapovalov had a walkover last round and Murray had a tough 5 set comeback win, would have liked to see this one on more even rest.

Sir Andy Murray is the Mo Cheeks of knighthood.

(Seriously, when was he knighted? Seems like the sort of honor you’d reserve for your country’s equivalent of Jackie Robinson or Roberto Clemente.)

Not a Brit, but I think you (and no doubt I) look at the honor as something far higher than it is. But Murray is almost certainly the greatest British tennis play of at least the past 50+ years, if not all time.

That said I think you may have a higher expectation for what a Knight is than is real. They have knighted the greatest Sheep Shearer of all time .When I look at the list of entertainers, let's just say it goes way beyond Sir Paul McCartney, and Sir Elton John.

Raducano wins again. Youngest Brit to make round of 16 in open era I think I heard

The Emma Raducanu vs. Sorana Cirstea match on Court 1 was one of the highlights of the tennis year for me. Raducanu, the 18-year-old Brit (of Romanian and Chinese parents, born in Toronto and moved to London at age 2) who started the week at #338 in the world, played incredibly well - she was 3-1 down in the first and won eight games in a row from there, and then Cirstea was down 0-40 on her serve but managed to avoid going a double-break down. Raducanu then got really nervous and showed her age and ranking, but after Cirstea pegged her back to 3-3, Raducanu just about hung in there and eventually broke Cirstea again in the final game to win 6-3 7-5. She's now up to #175 in the live rankings and will play Ajla Tomljanovic - who just defeated Jelena Ostapenko - for a place in the quarterfinals!

Any takes on the Kyrgios retirement? The ESPN broadcast presenters a sharp contrast between the crowd’s sympathy for Kyrgios, and the commentators questioning his heart, if not his integrity.

I didn't take it as questioning his integrity...at the opening of the broadcast they showed a Kyrgios interview from earlier in the week where is he was pretty up front about him not loving the sport, and wanting to spend the bulk of these years with his family. With that in mind, the commentators were stressing that training for two weeks for a 3/5 set major and adding on mixed dubs, was always going to lead to this kind of result. I, and I don't think the commentators, are questioning the actual injury so much as his commitment to fulfilling his potential. That said, he's been open about not really caring about that, so as frustrating as it is as a fan I can't get too upset about Kyrgios being Kyrgios, so to speak.
