Too many shit drafts by Belichick as well. No way he should be let off the hook as well. I had no problem with Kraft dumping BB. I wasn’t a fan of his process on Mayo. Have a real search. It may be because of last year’s injury, so, this could change, but my impression of Christian Gonzalez in 2024 is he’s soft and avoids contact.
goat.
other goats:
mayo
the poor bums patched together to form an “OL”
hooper
polk
and of course, the biggest goat:
kraft
his ego put this team in this position. too many years fighting for “credit” has led us to the 2024 New England patriots - this abysmal compilation of coaches and players

Maye had one bad turnover. The other was a tipped pass followed by an incredible catch by the DB. The other was a fumble because of a horrible OL.These threads are crack me up
Polk on multiple lists for dropping a meaningless pass. The guy with 3 turnover not on a 1.
If we're really saying the people most responsible for the loss....
Coach
GM
Hooper
Maye
Front 7
O-line
Might have a bit to do with the fact that most here actually watched the game and not just the box score. These threads are crack me up

It was loser ball and they did the same thing in the last preseason game. Not a good sign about the HC.Mayo
AVP

Saw good things in this game and and not-so-good things. As discussed in the game thread, the sequence at the end of the game where they didn't try to run a series to give Maye more reps and throws was infuriating.
I get it Maye is fun, he showed me why we all think he could be a franchise QB... He also turns out it cMight have a bit to do with the fact that most here actually watched the game and not just the box score.
One pick was hilariously poor luck. Fumble on a sack. 1 INT that was wholly his fault.I get it Maye is fun, he showed me why we all think he could be a franchise QB... He also turns out it c
over 3 times... Those are things happened and were a major part of the loss.
Expectations do still matter, but beyond that, the good he did (that was the most productive game by a Pats QB since at least last October) outweighed the bad. I'm not excusing the fumble (the sack belongs to the O-Line, but you've gotta feel the pressure right in your face and protect the ball) and the first interception was brutal and triggered some Mac Jones related PTSD, but he seems like such a massive improvement over Brissett and Mac that you really can't be surprised by anyone not putting the one bit of true good news in the goat thread. We've known for nearly 6 months that the most important thing for this season was Drake Maye looking like a franchise QB, and this was a pretty solid first step in that direction.I get it Maye is fun, he showed me why we all think he could be a franchise QB... Yeah I just don't understand the thinking. Give everyone a chance for another score. Get Maye more reps, let them end the game positively. Really cowardly coaching. The coaching staff. That last drive told me everything that I needed to know. They quit. They had 3 time outs and used none. A never say die attitude starts from the top.
A total of one poster has.Wait, we are giving a rookie QB playing behind a garbage O-line in his first NFL start, and who actually made some plays out there as opposed to pretty much anyone else on offense, a goat nomination? That’s absurd.
He was terrible today but has done a couple decent things in the earlier games. I'm not a fan and I fucking hate reaching after a run on WR, but I'm not ready to call him the new Harry or Jackson.Polk doesn't look average. He looks like a total bust. Horrible hands. Hideous drop on an east pass today. Didn't make a difference in the game but he's useless.
The 10 for 24 stat is what got me. He can't catch. He was terrible today but has done a couple decent things in the earlier games. I'm not a fan and I fucking hate reaching after a run on WR, but I'm not ready to call him the new Harry or Jackson.
Pad some stats. Show that you as a team never take your foot off the gas. You don’t build a winning culture on what you did on that last drive.Yeah I just don't understand the thinking. Give everyone a chance for another score. Get Maye more reps, let them end the game positively. Really cowardly coaching.
Against this team, and with this OL/weapons, it was beyond respectable. This was an excellent first start, despite a nervy first quarter or so.He looked like a rookie playing behind a shitty o-line in his first ever NFL start, but he also showed flashes of why he was the #3 pick. It was a respectable first start, he’s low on the list of reasons why they got demolished at home.
Also, why go for it on 4th and then just quit after converting? Get the kid his 4th TD.Pad some stats. Show that you as a team never take your foot off the gas. You don’t build a winning culture on what you did on that last drive.
I thought Gonzo half assed the chase down on the last TD.Gonzo was competitive today. Gave up 77 yards and a TD on an island to a top 10ish WR. Tough crowd.
Right? You just picked up a 1st, go get something! Also, why go for it on 4th and then just quit after converting? Get the kid his 4th TD.
It's not the loss we're criticizing. It's Mayo's total lack of game strategy or ability to coach the team. Accepting a penalty on 4th and 5, going for it on 4th at the end only to immediately give up after picking it up.....he gives every indication that he has no clue what the hell he is doing.I don't understand all the Mayo hate. The team is abysmally untalented, as injuries continue to weaken them, and I don't see any really questionable calls he made, other than not kicking a meaningless FG with time running out that would have matched my predicted point total for the Pats (I'd said 34-24 - not too bad). This was a mismatch with few bright spots.
The silver lining of dropping a ton of balls is that it means you're getting open. I'm not at all bullish on him being an impact receiver, but better to be dropping catchable passes than disappearing entirely. The 10 for 24 stat is what got me. He can't catch.
Yes, his open numbers this year are good. But that won't help if he has oven mitts for hands. The silver lining of dropping a ton of balls is that it means you're getting open. Certainly, and we're aiming for a higher bar than "better than N'Keal Harry."Yes, his open numbers this year are good. But that won't help if he has oven mitts for hands.
He was a very productive, sure handed guy at UW. I think it’s concerning that he’s so inefficient on his targets, but this isn’t Harry, who couldn’t even get open enough to drop balls. It’s more likely than not that his drop issues are anomalous given his track record. The silver lining of dropping a ton of balls is that it means you're getting open. It was me, and it was as part of a post about how the goat thread was is silly because it's not based on who contributed to most to the loss, but rather just people being randomly madOk fair enough.
Its really hard for me to not start the finger pointing with the people responsible for personnel and drafting the last few years:Too many shit drafts by Belichick as well. No way he should be let off the hook as well. I had no problem with Kraft dumping BB. I wasn’t a fan of his process on Mayo. Have a real search.
Coach who? Again, the roster is deeply untalented. We've already seen what the best coach of all time could do with most of the same guys, and that's zilch. Mayo is not the problem. Years of empty drafts is - they physically cannot compete with good teams, and that's why they lost today. It's not the loss we're criticizing. When Mayo screws up the most basic coaching decisions about which penalties to accept, when the team is called for a million penalties of their own, when his strategic decisions this season again and again make little sense not even considering the results....yes, the head coach is a problem.Coach who? And logically it didn't match what he had just done which was to go for it on 4th down. There's just no consistent logic or plan to anything he does.Yeah the talent is garbage but that doesn’t excuse Mayo for the decisions he makes and the lack of discipline on the team. Running out the clock today was a loser move. Hated it.
