Hi,

I need to find an app to install on my kids iPods so that they can message me when they are on WIFI. I have an Android phone and would really like to stay on Android for various reasons.

Whatever the app is, I need to be able to restrict who they can talk to. Ideally there would be a white list that I could configure, that they would not be able to change.

Any ideas?

Hangouts seems like the obvious answer but I cant say what kind of restrictions you can enable regarding contacts.

Hangouts doesn't really have restrictions unless you block or mute specific numbers. If I recall correctly only Apple has that sort of functionality.

If you d/l Skype and restrict who can send messages to Contacts, then only people you add can message you, but it doesn't prevent kids from adding more contacts, so you would still have to monitor it a bit.

I haven't tried it, but Roo Kids is available in the Play store and has parental controls so you should check that one out if you haven't already.

I don't know if it has parental control, but whatsapp has a web client that mirrors the app. You would be able to monitor their contacts and messages.
