Greetings. Long time lurker and occasional poster (I am not much of a message board guy and don't add anything of value anyway) that just wants to thank people for increasing my NBA knowledge from about a -37 to a +1 on a scale of 100. You may not know it, but the information you provide(even by accident) in your posts is greatly appreciated. You never have to worry about "Insulting" this reader with what you may think is comically obvious.

I do not pretend to be a big Celtics fan unlike B's/Pats/Sox but have always followed them through box scores and of course want them to win titles. Mainly because I just didn't like the NBA game itself. However, I find myself actually appreciating it the few games I have watched. The effort on defense and the ball movement seems drastically different than what I remember from years (decades?) ago.

What I have learned from reading this forum has also increased my enjoyment as I understand more of what I am watching . As an admittedly way too analytical person, I thoroughly enjoy trying to figure out "the whys". I really like it when posters disagree/debate. Knowing virtually nothing, it forces me to consider and think about what each is saying. I am a firm believer in the thought that there is no better way to learn than looking at something from different perspectives. As a long time stock trader, I cannot emphasize enough the potential value of an opposing view. Saved me a small fortune over the years.

Hopefully the Celtics go on a long run and thanks to SOSH, I will enjoy and appreciate it much more now. I would call out certain names but don't want to forget any.

Sorry for the extra thread but thought this was better than just a random reply. But if this gets deleted, I am fine with that opposing view too. :)

First, welcome!

Second, as long as you don't pollute the Port Cellar with tales of the millions you've earned while being born into wealth, all the hot women you never banged but pretend to have, or decide to name yourself after tragedies in Terriers college hockey, you'll do great here. (Don't worry if this doesn't make sense...only a few people will get it).

Love to hear it--basketball is my favorite sport because of how much dynamic analysis you can do while watching, and it's cool to see others get into that.

Welcome...it's a good time to get more involved with the Celtics. They are about to go on a multi-year run, as their stars are ascending and the other top NBA players age out.

Buying Tatum's future is like buying AAPL a decade ago.

Even if all the above applies, at least have the decency to have a good camera on your cell phone.

I'm a *huge* basketball fan of over 40 years and yet I seemingly learn something new daily thanks to SoSH. This place is, and always has been, amazing. Welcome!

Much like SoSH was at the forefront of the baseball statistical revolution 15-20 years ago, I feel like the Port Cellar is doing the same for hoops. So, thank you. I learn something here every day.

Mostly great post but everyone know plus/minus is a trash system for rating poster knowledge.

OK, time to add some value since you’ve been receiving it. What’s the non-consensus trade that makes us all a small fortune?

Welcome to the conversation! You should join more frequently. We don't bite, well at least most of us!

I'm glad you started watching the NBA. It's long been my contention that people who complain about the effort in the NBA don't actually watch the games. On a night in, night out basis, guys play pretty hard in the NBA. Yes playoffs are a different level of intensity, but guys are so skilled these days, if players don't play hard, they're going to be embarrassed, and who wants that?

I find the NBA product much better than the college product, if only because the 75-ish best college players are actually in the NBA. And I miss the days where we'd watch really good players square off against each multiple times over their college careers.

Glad you're enjoying the NBA. The Cs are a particularly fun team to watch, well they have been since about December 30. :)
