Great Celtic that really helped get us out of the rebuilding phase quickly. He also gave it his all emotionally after his sister's tragic death during the recent playoff run. It's a shame he had to go / he may be breaking down with those hips. And we have to root against him besides Lebron this upcoming season.

All the best Isaiah!

The toilet.
I will only root for him when he's playing the Celtics, and only then it will be for his team to lose. I wish the Little Guy all the success (and a max contract) in the world.

If Cleveland advances past the Celtics to the finals next year, it's going to be so hard wanting IT to win and LBJ to lose.

No matter who makes it from the East, the Western champ will be favored to win in 5.
But yeah, I hate LBJ and love IT too.

I hope when I'm in my 80s something can make me as happy as Tommy was watching IT play.

IT, you were the best. My daughter saw her first Celtics game in the ECF to watch you. She did a fourth grade report on you. And now, she is in mourning over your trade, coming into our bedroom tonight and putting her head down on the bed she was so sad.

We will be rooting for you in Cleveland.

Lots of sad folks of all ages IT, thanks for what you did on the court and to help make the Cs a desirable location as well

The joy he brought to the court was contagious; such a joy to watch. I hope his hip holds out for a while as I'd like to see him take over every 4Q - except when he's playing the Cs.

One of the most naturally efficient offensive basketball players I've ever seen, and usually a joy to watch. I mostly believe him when he talks about where he would be if he were taller because he understood offense that well.

That's what she said.
Thanks Little Guy. Won't be the same without him.

My dad passed away last year, he and my almost 5 year old were close. This was almost as tough to tell her as it was when he died. Seriously... (my dad had been sick for a year so it wasn't unexpected, so there was that.)

My kids and I will be rooting for Isaiah and watching him play until he decides to hang them up.

Thanks for all you did and for some great memories, Eyezayer.
Truly. Izayer gave us three great years, including one monster year. Conference title, playoff conference finals, all those amazing fourth quarters, and an irrepressible and effervescent personality. He'll be a hard act to follow.

Anyone think Isaiah's return is going to be similar to KG/Pierce with respect to fan reaction? Loved every second of watching him and really hope he gets that monster contract from someone.

Last year was probably my favorite non champion teams I've ever watched mostly because of Isaiah. 5'8 guys aren't supposed to be able to do what he did and he did it night after night even though everyone in the arena knew it was coming. I hope he has a huge personal season next year and gets his brinks truck somewhere out west so I can enjoy rooting for him the rest of his career.

Heart of a Lion says it best. I'll root for you IT always (even this season against the Green.) One of my favorite Celtics which doesn't include too many post Bird era players. Thank you.

What time is it?

Time to thank Isaiah for bringing energy, style and confidence to a team that badly needed all three. He'll always be the guy who went to Oakland to face a Warriors team that was 36-0 at home, whom nobody thought could be beat, and stopped them from topping the 1986 Celtics' mark.

I'm absolutely sickened to hear Celtic fans were burning Isiah Thomas jersey. What an embarrassment.

I hope LJ is incorrect here.
There are 380 million+ people in this country. There will always be a couple fools. The fact that the guy was traded indicates that the few who might have done this (if we believe LBJ) are a little short on logic or - more likely - just having fun and trying to gain some attention on social media.

It's not something to be sickened over.

Also, Lebron is always playing victim. Just move along.

That person should be tracked down and banned from ever attending the Garden. I lean towards it being someone just trolling the internet but it worked and it's a really bad look. No reasonable person would ever do anything close to that with Isaiah.

Also fuck Chris Broussard and his "sources" saying people had issues with IT in the locker room. Celtics beat guys almost unanimously have denied this and are saying he was beloved.

Thanks to the Little Guy for making a rebuilding team extremely watchable and fun to follow. Also for representing 5'7 people everywhere. What a great story and I'll be rooting for him for the rest of his career (although not all of his teams)

This thread should be several pages long.

One of my favorite performances from the IT era. God, these last two years have been fun.

Agreed, we can't even put in words how much he grew interest and brought the Celtics more fans. The NBA is at its peak of popularity right now, and Isaiah is one of the top 20 stars. And very deservedly so.

He really is a remarkable story and I will miss him so much. I watched probably 65 of 82 regular season games last year and every playoff game. I'll do the same this year, but I know I'll be flipping back and forth to a lot of Cavs games now, just to watch The Little Guy.

I still can't find a Tommy calling IT "The Little Guy" compilation on the internets. I need this!

He was really fun to watch. Loved his energy and heart. He will be missed in Boston and always be remembered fondly. Hopefully the hip holds up and he gets a very sizable contract after next season.

His defensive struggles were really only a function of his stature and certainly not due to the man's heart or effort. Those were on display every time he took the court and, furthermore, how he carried himself as a member of the Celtics. Simply put, he was a joy to watch (at the offensive end for those purists) and even more fun to root for.

The Celtics may be a better team going forward but they simply won't be as all around likable as they were when IT4 was leading them.

We talked about this at the end of the Cavs series and I don't want to think about it too much because it's depressing, but that might have been the peak of Celtics fun. The past two seasons with the crazy wins and the most likable team in the history of teams.

Tommy should go out on top. Him screaming "the little guy" will live in my ears forever.

This team is going to be really really good. But everyone is going to expect them to be good and the press and the "fans" will be all over them if they aren't perfect. I expect the game threads to absolutely suck this year. I hope I'm wrong. I could really see myself getting banned from the site this NBA season if the game threads in the port cellar start looking anything like the game threads in the football/baseball forums.

It's Boston. The press was always going to be all over this team. As for the fans, sure, the casual ones are going to start assuming that the ECF is our birthright. It comes with the territory of raised expectations and I find this to be a good thing.

I loved watching Isaiah but I'm equally as excited about the next team. There have been so many exciting additions in just one offseason. We're talking an all-NBA caliber talent, another all-star, and a top 3 pick oozing with potential. And that's without mentioning our previous top 3 pick entering his 2nd year.

Every team finds their identity. I'm looking forward to see what this next one's will be.

IT4 is a lot of fun and this past season was special because of him. All heart. How much more would he have been loved if he signed here as opposed to phoenix?

I'll be cheering loudly for him when he next steps into the Garden. He was a great spark for this team and has the heart of a lion. I look forward to seeing him demolish the Cavs phony fears of his being damaged goods.

He's probably going to miss the first Cavs Celtics game, so we won't see him in Boston before the playoffs. I hope he gets a long, well-deserved ovation when he does play here for the first time.

I don't go to games but will give him a standing ovation from my living room when he plays in the garden.

Thanks Little Man, you are what's right about sports.

I'm going to miss the King in the Fourth a lot, but I have no worries anymore about this team not being as fun or likeable as the last iteration. There are going to be a lot of holy shit moments when Brad gets the starting lineup in sync and firing on all cylinders, and they still have plenty of scrappy guys in the two Marcuses, JB, and Terry Rozier. I'm glad the Sox are in a pennant race, but I can't wait until opening night.

Plus, not that it matters as much as on-court performance, but Kyrie is pretty awesome off the court in terms of likability. I think Boston will take to him really quickly.
