I have this photo frames in my office. I don't think I've ever screamed as loud as whe he hit that HR, it was completely unexpected to me.

Thanks, Shane. You'll never have to buy a beer in Boston.

Yep, that's all we need. ALCS Game 6 is the best game I've ever been to as a Sox fan and probably the best birthday of my life. Thanks Shane.

+1 on all of the above.  Time to put to rest forever the nonsense that Victorino's signing was one of Ben's mistakes.

Thanks for 2013.  I'll never hear Three Little Birds and not think of you and smile.
I couldn't say it better, so I'll just agree with this and say farewell to one of my favorites.

A day of mixed emotions for me.  Shane was an internal part of winning a championship for my favorite team.  He's a friend and I wish him the best.  He has a chance to win at the end of his career and that's why you play.

I will always remember roaming Fenway Park, trying to find a good place to stand to watch Game 6 of the WS. I had never seen that many people in Fenway and the Three Little Birds sing along gave me chills.

Finally, just after he ripped the bases clearing hit off the Monster, I found a spot I could see the game from.

Thanks for some unforgettable memories Shane.

Sat in dead centerfield for Game 6 of the 2013 WS and Shane's huge hit convinced me I was actually going to see my beloved Sox win it all at Fenway Park for first time since 1918. Thanks Shane!

I love Shane Victorino.  Because I lived in Philly for a number of years I've always kept an eye on the Phillies so I've been rooting for him for awhile.  It's too bad his body isn't as strong as his will, because when healthy, he is all you could ask for from a player who wears your team's jersey.

Haven't had a reason to root for the Angels since the Rally Monkeys ended the MFYs' season in 2002, but I have one now.

Thank you, good luck, and God bless you Shane!

Watching him in the field from the first base side of the state street pavilion seats was an amazing experience -- it seemed like he would make his jump before the ball was even to the batter.  Such an amazingly graceful outfielder who made it look effortless.

I'm awfully glad Shane Victorino's career brought him to Boston and I had fun rooting for him during the good times and the bad. I will root for him as an Angel... most of the time.

The 9 or 10 month reverse from "holy shit they just gave Shane Victorino how much money? Wtf is this front office doing?" to the sheer ecstasy of his ALCS homer and the wall ball in game six of the WS is personally one of the most marked reversals I've ever had on a player. Outside of 2004 stuff, watching Vic chest pump around the bases was one of the most exhilarating experiences I've ever had as a Sox fan (non Ortiz department, anyway).

Mahalo Shane. You earned every penny of your deal despite your injuries and you forever changed my perceptions of what a RF in Fenway needs for tools in the box to be valuable. Go Angels.

The three-year contract was worth it for 2013.

Shane gave everything he had on the field, but his body couldn't hold up. He was the hitting version of 2004 Lowe: Getting the game-winning RBI in every series clincher.

Mahalo!

The slam in the ALCS and the bases clearing double in the WS are the two overriding memories.  And Three Little Birds.

But that chopper single in game four against the Rays was quintessential Shane.  It was a nothing much dribbler aimed at short that he beat out with great hustle.  And that was after getting by a pitch -- shockingly -- earlier in the game.

No doubt, the other two hits were way more dramatic.  But the game winner against the Rays was the kind of effort play that characterized Victorino.

Worth every penny in my book.

When I was a kid I used to dream about watching the Red Sox win the World Series. I used to imagine how loud the Boston crowd would be. Coolest event of my life, next to the birth of my son, was watching game 6 in 2013 and seeing that dream happen right before my very eyes. And my son even snuck out his iPhone and video'd Shane's 3-run double, so I can relive it over and over again. And oh my was it loud.

But what left the lasting impressions on me that night was watching Shane run around the outfield playing with his kid after the game. I'll always have a very special place in my heart for that 2013 team, and Shane is right at the top.

The wrong side of the bridge....
Shane was the perfect antidote to everything that had been wrong with the franchise starting with the 2011 collapse. A lot of guys embodied the spirit of 2013, but other than perhaps Koji I don't think anyone did it more perfectly than Victorino.

I'm glad he's going to get a chance to contribute to a winning team again, because that's what he does best.

Shane was my favorite player on the 2006-10 Phillies roster after he burst onto the scene as " the flyin' Hawai'ian", and I always thought he'd be a great fit to take over for Drew, because his defense, obp, and attitude/energy was so good. So I was stoked when the Sox signed him, and he was more brilliant than I'd hoped in 2013.

Mahalo, and here's hoping you get your third ring, Shane.

Thank Shane.

I had to wait 27 years for the Red Sox to win a championship in my lifetime. You were a big reason why my son only had to wait 5 months.

Good luck with the Angels.

Thanks Shane. Every time I hear Three Little Birds I think of the 2013 playoffs.

You, me, my 8-year old daughter and any other Red Sox fan with functioning ears that watched that series.

It was inevitable after the collapse last year and this + the injuries and need for a rebuild, but Vic was fun to watch in RF and on the basepaths. Underrated guy who brought some intensity when needed and had big hits when no one expected them.

I've shared this story before, but it's worth sharing again. Does anyone remember that 2006 series at home against the Phillies? One of the games ended on an Ortiz walk-off homer and the next game he ripped a walk-off double to the gap (after Papelbon allowed a game tying home run to Utley that clanged off the foul pole).

During that second game, I was sitting down the left field line. Shane Victorino was playing left field. And he was getting heckled mercilessly by a group of fans in the first couple of rows. Vic-tor-ino! More and more of our section got into it (I think he made an error or misplayed a ball). He jawed back a little and these guys down at the front just kept getting louder.

Sometime in the late innings Victorino walked over to them on his way out to left field with one of the cops or security folks. "That's them, they've been hounding me all game, get them out of here." Security starts to try to usher them up the steps and these guys start to complain and panic a little. Before they get far, though, Vic and the security guy lose it and just start laughing, both in on the joke. Our entire section starts laughing as Shane jogs out to left, that big smile on his face. Didn't hear that jeer the rest of the afternoon.

It was very weird, though, hearing a much louder Vic-tor-ino chant at Fenway in October 2013 for entirely different reasons.

Fenway never sounded better than when Victorino came to bat. By the last game of the World Series, the fans were singing the chorus with brio. Three Little Birds are permanent residents of the baseball playlist.

Victorino was the first chemistry signing, wasn't he? That was the first step in repairing the damage done by the downfall of 2011 followed by the usurper Bobby the Fifth.

Getting traded to a contender is the best way for a veteran to wind up his big contract. I can now root for the Angels in good conscience.
