I can't be the only one disappointed to see that Plymouth Argyle doesn't wear argyle-style socks. Now I'm almost pleased they lost 4-0.

Plymouth was bad, but Wednesday was very very good. As fun as the football going forward was, the most impressive thing for me was how much Wednesday stifled Plymouth's attack...bad coaching or not there are some quite dangerous players at Plymouth (Whittaker, Hardie, Mumba, Forshaw...Cissoko was very highly rated coming in) but Wazza shockingly couldn't get them working. And then of course he publicly threw them under the bus post game. Could be a long season for Plymouth and a short one for Rooney.

As far as other SoSH based results (I'm sure I'll forget someone, sorry):

-Derby got tonked by Blackburn...I picked them to go back down as I think Paul Warne is a vibes guy who can't tactically keep up at this level. The sooner they fire him the better shot they'll have. It's similar to Wednesday making the right move firing Darren Moore (then making the wrong move hiring Munoz, then making the right one bringing on Rohl)...great vibes guy, rigid tactician who lumped it long and hoped for the best. Now, Derby did have the best defense in the league last season so maybe they can bunker down. We'll see
-Sunderland won 2-0 at Cardiff in a comfortable road win...ceded possession but not control
-Leeds drew 3-3 at home to promoted Portsmouth in a bananas game...would have been very entertaining for a neutral. Aaronson missed a sitter that should have won it at the death. Sounds worse than it was as Leeds dominated but gave up a poor goal, a worldie, and a stupid stupid foul for a pk...they'll be fine, they're going up.
-Millwall the victim of a bit of a smash and grab by Watford at The Den
-Norwich losing at home 2-0 to promoted Oxford (there first 2nd division game in like 25 years). Not great
-QPR lost 3-1 at home to West Brom on a Josh Maja hattrick

Luton and Burnley play tonight

In news, it looks like Ryan Lowe has left Preston after their loss to the Pigs...I think he's a good manager but he was very mid table at PNE. I'd argue their budget and ownership had more to do with that than Lowe, but either way, pretty bad look to need a new manager one game in...do it in July or at least give it a few weeks.

I realize I'm not cool enough to hang in this neighborhood anymore but in the battle of recently relegated championship sides my Royals went to Birmingham and walked away with a 1-1 draw that was probably a fair result. Birmingham are favorites to go right back up and Reading are not so it was a good day marred only by the fairly soft handball penalty that gave Birmingham the equalizer in the 87th. We'll see what Selles and the boys can do and if we can finally get out from under the current ownership (still under a transfer embargo for another year, hopefully no new points deductions still to come.)

Strange week two...
-Our heroes in blue and white got blasted 4-0 at Sunderland. Really just a bad 15 minutes and possibly some naivety by the manager (or perhaps some early season testing of the squad) but ugly result. Sunderland looked quite good.
-Burnley continues their hot start with a 5-0 win over Cardiff (4 shots on goal though)
-The Pigs blew a 2-0 lead at home to 10 man QPR
-Leeds and West Brom with a dreadful 0-0
-Watford 3-0 win over Stoke (maybe my relegation call was to premature)
-Speaking of Relegation calls...Derby outshot 20-3 with <30% possession stole a 1-0 win over Boro
-Norwich and Blackburn drew 2-2...Biggest news here was probably Blackburn selling Szmodics
-Millwall lost another heartbreaking bananas game 4-3 to Bristol City
-Preston lost again 3-0 to Swansea, and then announced former Pig manager Paul Heckingbottom will take charge. I think that's probably a good appointment

Game week 3 starts off with the battle of Yorkshire's two biggest teams as Leeds scum come to Hillsborough Friday afternoon at 3:00. Game should be on paramount + (and DAZN for our friends north of the border). This game is almost always a doozy

Time for a bump.
In the anti-DH Yorkshire derby, Leeds bested Sheffield United 2-0, which I can only guess is his preferred result, short of both squads being shot into the heart of the sun.
That leaves them level on points at the top of the table, with Sunderland. West Brom, Burnley and Watford are all right there as well. Early days for sure, but things are starting to settle out.
I know it's not as skilled as the Premier League, nor as predictable, but I'm surprised there's so little interest on SoSH.

I watch matches pretty often as someone who likes to track the US guys down there, but I'm not locked into any specific team enough to really get into the meat of discussing it.

From what I have seen in that regard, Norwich look fun and fluid again. and Carrick is doing nice things with Boro until they get into the final third, where they simply don't seem to have the guys right now.

I enjoy the league but between most kickoffs starting at the same time as premier league and the spotty tv coverage, the league can get lost in the shuffle.

We suck. I don't understand. This is the most convinced I have been we are going down.
Yeah, it's distinctly not looking good for the Hoops right now. They've not been good for awhile now, yet they always seem to do just enough by the end of the season to stay up. Like being chased by a bear, you don't have to be faster than it, just faster than (three of) your friends.
Frustrating though. QPR are a bit like Everton these days.

Nice…you guys are better than this. Cardiff is awful, shocking lack of finishing from Wednesday when we played them recently.

Wednesday with maybe their worst half of the year (and THAT is saying something) but some half time adjustments led to a much better half and Jamal Lowe’s 93’ winner gives Wednesday their first win at Derby since 2006.

We may have finally found something. 3-0 home win against a competitive 10th place Norwich squad. 2-0-1 in our last 3. And I think out of the relegation zone, for now.

Big match against Oxford in a couple days. Big only in that they are right next to them in the standings and we are playing better than they are. Get another 3 and I think we can officially say, ok we seem to have wind at our backs

What a run QPR is on. 14 points in the last 6 match unbeaten run. Up to potentially 14th after sitting 23rd a few weeks ago.

Great form, with two matches up next against teams directly ahead of them in the table

Our heroes in Blue and White went down 0-3 at the half at Boro. But having a special manager seems to make a difference as they dominated the second half, tying the game at 3 and somehow failing to finish the job. Only one pint from the game but a lot of continuing momentum and positivity from the owls. Pigs losing at home to Burnley really makes this Boxing Day

Edit: Leeds could go top with a win this afternoon v. Putrid Stoke.

And sure enough, Stoke was putrid, and the visibility perhaps worse.
I was thinking of you during the Owls comeback. Pretty impressive, though they might have taken all three points in the end. No matter. They are having a great season so far.
Halfway there, too early to predict anything, other than that Wayne Rooney will be sacked before spring.

3 more points yesterday and up to 13th in the table. Its weird that this sports gets you excited for relative mediocrity, but this is the joy of the relegation / promotion structure.

Hoping we get 3 more against lowly plymouth in our next match.

You will, they’re a mess.

After the last few seasons, mid-table mediocrity is a welcome respite
Well, got the 3 but wish they had done a bit more to help differential. Oh well. Either way, up to 12th and stunningly closer to the playoff than the relegation zone. Doubtful this form continues but nice to see they are capable of it.

And yes. Agree about mid table being a nice place to be relative to sweating it out!!!

Another 3 points today on the road. What an incredible run. 9th in the table. 4 points from the playoff. Wow

Long may this run continue. I made it over to Loftus Road last year and had a great time. I talked to a few guys who said they couldn't get their kids to come to the games anymore (average age at the ground was 60+) because they have been so bad, hopefully their kids are interested again!

I always recommend that people visiting London check to see if they are playing when they are there. The ground is very walkable from the Central Line and there are a few great geezer pubs to grab pints at before hand. The whole experience is a throwback in the best way.
