I finally was able to watch the hit... that didn't look good. It seemed clean to me, but I don't feel real good about a quick return. :(

How exactly does one bruise a lung without other injury?

And what is the treatment/rehab for this kind of injury?
Quick google makes it seem like this one could be a few weeks, but shouldn't be longer than that, as long as there aren't any other injuries attached. Rest and ice.

I once got squished into low boards (Boston Skating Club) by a very large man and cracked the cartilage in my ribs. Then I got pneumonia. Somehow that correlated to the cracked cartilage getting infected.
That sucked.

IANAD...but by the looks of it, his arm was down, so maybe his arm was jammed into his ribs which hit the lung, which, I assume is a very sensitive innard, cuz no one is usually touching it. And since half the rib is cartilage, not bone, maybe the point of contact wasn't in a place to break a rib. No matter...that had to be painful.

That makes sense, I suppose.

The first time my kids saw me cry was when I sneezed a couple of hours after a sledding incident in which I cracked rib cartilage.

Bruce Cassidy on Matt Grzelcyk: “X-rays were negative, may have dodged a bullet.” But team will know more tomorrow about severity of injury.

Can they call up another D as emergency or is that not an option given they have Kampfer already up? Would love to see them give Connor Clifton a chance. Having a great season in PRO.

Here’s the info provided so far:

- Krug out tomorrow, UBI. Listed as day-to-day.

- Grz got good news, they hope he can join the team on the next road trip.

- They’ll update on Johansson next week.

- DeBrusk skated today.

- Cehlarik sent down, no injury.

I don’t think Bruce mentioned Pasta. Based on the timeline Sweeney has laid out, I think he should be fairly close. The last update was on deadline day where Sweeney said 2 weeks in a cast, then a splint where it becomes a level of comfort thing for Pasta. That 2 weeks should be up. At last check when they were at home he was skating and stickhandling. Hope there wasn’t a set back.

Agreed. I've turned into a big Kevan Miller fan, but of the two I really think Gryz is more important to get back. He's turned into one of the better puck movers i can remember, and while Miller is probably better at shutting down the D zone, I think Gryz is more important to generating offense. I didn't see the injury, but from the reaction here I was really concerned, so I'm glad to hear this news.

Looks like DeBrusk is back tonight. Pasta is skating and shooting with them but they’ll probably want him to practice first. Close.

DeBrusk is back tonight. Pasta will practice with the team Monday and travel with the team but they don’t have a return game yet. Grz and Johansson should start skating early next week. Miller close to getting on the ice.

Only bad news is Krug is concussed and in the protocol.

Add in DeBrusk and 6 of the top 18 were out. Pretty remarkable that they haven't taken a hit in the standings.

Krug skating again today.

Miller, MoJo and Grz will join the team for practice in Florida. Miller is the furthest away, but it sounds like MoJo and Grz have an outside shot of playing Saturday, with Monday being more realistic.

Great news. Looks like they will be full Voltron with some games to go before the playoffs.

Looks like Johansson will be back tomorrow, skating on Krejci’s line. Krug close but unlikely, seems like he may be good against the NYR. Miller and Gryz are farther out, with Miller the farthest out. Coyle is practicing with Heinen and Kuhlman.

Grz and Miller are game time decisions for tomorrow. Grz is likely to play, Miller’s more realistic for Sunday.
