Did the dynasty end when they lost to the Eagles? Or when they lost to the Broncos before SB50? Or the second time they lost to the Giants? Whatever happens in the playoffs, the Patriots will still be considered a top tier AFC team before the start of next season. I know we haven’t seen it in 10 years but wildcard weekend playoff games have happened to this team during the dynasty run.

there's going to be plenty of bulletin board material this week, at least.

the shitters can have their day whenever we lose this month, they'll never sniff 6 SBs

Yes all true. But they haven't won it all out of WC weekend.

That is a lot of faith in the Tennessee Titans.
Right it'd be one thing to count down against the Ravens, or even KC who beat us already and has beef from last January. The Titans? That's just insulting.

On the other hand, by weighted DVOA (which weighs more recent games more heavily): NE +19.0% (6th), TEN +20.4% (5th). TEN looks a lot better in recent games (by DVOA), whereas NE looks substantially worse when focused on recent games.

Pretty hard to call the "end of the dynasty" when Belichick, Brady and Kraft are all still there as 11-time defending AFC East champions though. That's going out on a limb, even if it's not the shakiest limb they could have possibly chosen.

I love this so much. Bring it on. I hope Bill prints that screen cap and has it hanging in everyone’s locker tomorrow.
Hell, I hope he mounts an actual clock counting down.

IF this is the Doomsday clock, is BB Adrian Veidt - smarter than all the rest, and TB Dr Manhattan, just more powerful than his counterparts

Sure. But did the dynasty end the other times they lost in the playoffs after having to play wild card weekend? Say they lose to Tennessee on Saturday but win the SB next year with Brady under center. Is that the start of a new dynasty or a continuation of the current one. Let’s not forget, they went from the 2004 season to the 2014 season on a 10 year SB drought only appearing in two during that stretch. So is that two different dynasties? My point is, I don’t know how you declare it’s the end of a dynasty after the results of one game or even one subpar season. Even if they don’t make the playoffs next year but Brady and BB get #7 in 2021, I say it’s still part of the same dynasty.

I’d agree fully.

Right, and those years included 1 undefeated season, 2 SB losses (fuckers), 3 AFCCG losses (Indy, Balt Den), 2 Div round game losses (Den, NYJ) , 1 WC round loss, (Balt), 1 missed playoff (sans Brady).

While losing fucking sucks, that run, bookended by 2 SB WINS, would be a pinnacle run for most franchises.

Absolutely. But any of those years could have been considered by the pundits to be the end of an era/dynasty/brady off the cliff and probably were only to be proven wrong in the seasons to come. I hope they win on Saturday and then destroy KC’s dreams the following week. However, no matter how this season ends, they won 12 games and have the #3 seed and I don’t see how anyone can call that the end of a dynasty. To me, it’s all about being competitive and relevant and at least having a shot at a championship. Unless something drastic happens in the offseason, I think they still have a shot next year too. The dynasty isn’t over, not yet, and fuck that countdown clock.

Agree. And as we all know, pundits are morons.

To me, the dynasty ends when Brady and Belichick part, whenever or however that happens, kind of like how the Spurs weren’t the Spurs without Pop and Duncan. Like the Spurs, they may be competitive once the franchise icon goes away...but it won’t feel the same. Hopefully, Belichick wants to coach 5ish more years so that the next foundation can get set up.

Surprised by Packers and Colts who both had elite QBs for basically the entire stretch as well.

Well, the Packers at least.

I've always thought Luck was closer to Andy Dalton than Peyton Manning.
