Well, there was a little bump of white power asshats like Richard Spencer who said they were in favor of the Patriots (especially in Super Bowl LI) because of all the prominent white players they had in Edelman, Hogan, Burkhead, and Gronk (DNP). Plus Belichick and Kraft having offered public personal support for Trump, Brady's MAGA hat incident, etc etc etc.

That said, even as someone who is generally unhappy with the details in that last sentence there, that professor's analysis is, uh, not good.

I had to reread your first sentence like 6 times. My eyes kept inserting an extraneous d.

I am still upset that the ESPN Lakers/Celtics rivalry show talked about the Celtics being the favorite team of racists, especially when they put Arsenio Hall on that show. He used his short lived late night fame to constantly beat the drum that Bird was overrated because he was white, despite the fact every NBA player that was a guest told him the opposite.

It’s a brave new world when the official team of white supremacy is owned by a wealthy Jewish man.

...which you can't read unless you're a Buffalo News subscriber.
If only someone had mentioned that in the original post ;)

(I thought that the idea that this would be worthy of an oral history to Bills fans was just as delicious as any of the typical gripes from other fans around the league.)

Agreed - the fact that the paper of record in Buffalo feels this merits an oral history says more about the overall history of the Brady era and the state of Bills football than any content could ever convey (so no need to subscribe). That said, there are certain, let's say "special events" for which I would love to see an oral history. Here's a few to get started: Butt Fumble, Colts Fake Punt, Rexie's Foot Video, Donovan McNabb Fwow's Up, Arthur Blank Decides To Go To the Sideline...

Please expand.

Pat McAfee has a great explanation of the fake punt play on YouTube. On mobile so don't have link, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

On one of those top 10 moments in franchise history, the Jets has the day Belichick was head coach. Greenberg comments and Mehta and a bunch of other Jets people. Still hilarious.

Can’t find the video for it right now.

It really just speaks to how bad of a coach Pagano was. When you lose your main gunner, you throw the play out of your playbook. You don't run it with a backup who hadn't practiced it.
Unless it ends up working. Kevin Dyson was the third option for the Music City Miracle (Derrick Mason had a concussion, Anthony Dorsett was cramping), and didn't know what the play was until minutes before the play was run.

By the way, if anyone missed NFL's Top 100 Plays, it's a must-watch. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=#NFL100

I still think Malcolm's pick should have been higher than the Music City Miracle and "The Catch". I can't unbiasedly decide if it's better than Tyree.

The worst tears yet - tying Brady’s popularity to white supremacy.
So, I skipped most of the discussion around this yesterday because the professor's claims struck me as ridiculous at face value and I didn't feel like getting into it. So I missed that the prof works at URI.

My sister-in-law, a URI grad student, just texted the family saying that today security is tight on campus, the mood is very tense, and they're hearing reports of death threats being called in. Some quick googling didn't show any news updates from today but they might be coming later.

Well, it's not an oral history, but it is a silent movie! (Any excuse to post this again.)

Can you do that same fake punt trick play using the electric football game with the vibrating table for the field?

Love this - and the comments (e.g., "Breaking news...Edelman traded to the Jets for saying publicly he saw coaches junk")

Fantastic thread on a Chiefs forum: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=325929

Basically the Chiefs lose two games and their fan base goes over the edge and begins spouting off conspiracy theories about how the NFL specifically fixes games to prevent the Chiefs from winning games. All of this comes not from the losses, but rather the crushing knowledge that their team in its current state will never, ever beat the Patriots.

Yup. Watching Brady and BB continually outclass their opponents for 2 decades has been fun. Watching the reaction of fans of teams who have been blue balled by the Pats during that team might be even more fun.

I’ll always get a kick out of the Patriots conspiracy arguments after Spygate and Deflategate. The NFL wants the Pats to win so badly that they took away 2 first round picks in like a 7 year span over dubious charges. Makes sense.

That is fantastic.

"If I gave control of the Pats/Falcons superbowl to basically any 10 year old that plays Madden when that game was 28-3, they'd all have bowl rings, think about that."

Is that the thread where they argue the NFL doesn't want Mahomes to win? Because that's some horseshit.

My favorite is the guy who argues that since Mahomes could throw for 6,000 yards and the Chiefs could go undefeated, the ONLY thing preventing that from happening is that the league finds that boring so they have to fix some of the games so the Chiefs just don’t dominate everyone.

Does the league order the Chiefs to be utterly incapable of stopping the run?

The NFL really wants the Raiders in the playoffs.

Ed: What makes the Falcons collapse more suspicious- particularly the play-calling that took them out of FG range - is that since then Dan Quinn has made the right decision every single time.

This is a GREAT ONE. Read all the way to the end:

It's a tough conclusion to face, and I get that. So many people tie their entire identity to a football team. I used to be the same way. Now, I just watch it as if I'm watching the WWE, nothing more and nothing less. Once it becomes obvious the result is being heavily influenced, I just accept the game is lost. If we somehow pull it out despite that, then great.

This game in particular was painfully obvious. Not that we deserved to win anyway, our defense is an abomination.

There were a reasonable amount of rational people on that thread who were mocking the morons posting that stuff. I expected worse, maybe that is due to the time I’ve spent in Sox gamethreads.

I can't speak to the officiating, as I didn't watch the full game. But the Chiefs had a 10-0 and 17-3 lead at home. The Texans had multiple turnovers, including a fumble that directly led to KC points, and a pick in the KC end zone. They had multiple drops. They missed a field goal and an extra point. They failed on a 4th down conversion. They had a shit ton of stuff go wrong for them. And they still won the game. KC has no one to blame but themselves.

Yeah I have a feeling those were some embedded SoSH members; particularly given the join date of 2019, which is when I believe that site was first linked on here.

Not just the Sox gamethreads. If the Pats fall behind 7-0 in a game and Tom has thrown two bad passes, it’s the beginning of the end with some in the Pats gamethread.

Good lord...I did some perusing of that site. Their version of V&N had a thread about the Dallas officer that shot the guy in his own apartment. The 3rd post said, "Well, maybe he was an illegal. That would be nice."

5th post quoted that and said, no dice he wasn't an illegal...but at least he was an immigrant.

I still say Belichick was perfectly content to take a normal everyday delay of game penalty to help out the punter on a mercy punt.

Gase went with the not so fast in declining gambit.
Bill responded with “if you want to play this game, let’s play”.
