Cooks was very good, but that was a huge drop. If we’d lost, that and the Lewis fumble would’ve been the two inflection points.

Underrated stat of the game:

Blake Bortles: 2 carries for -2 yards rushing. Unbelievable job keeping him in the pocket, and giving him no lanes to scramble. That, and stopping Fournette were the keys on defense this week, and the Pats did their jobs.

I might be missing something, but did Calais Campbell do anything of note against Fleming in this game?

Great point. Worth repeating.

Does Brady keep wearing the thumb strap/patch thing even when he is healed? That was the best I'v seen him throw the deep ball in a while. If Gronk/Cooks don't drop a couple easy catches his numbers are off the charts.

And the greatest athlete in team sports history coming back down 10 against the best defense in football without Gronkowski and Edelman. The stuff of legends.

Un-Patriot of the Week: myself. After 14-3 with Brady looking shaky in the pocket on that sack I thought this was over. I just don't know why I keep doubting them.

Wow, the box score is something. There is virtually no difference between the teams. The Patriots drew more penalties but Jacksonville was +1 on turnovers.

Patriots were poor on third down but must have been better on first and second down. It's ironic they won the game on only their third third down conversion of the game. The third and 18 was one of the others.

But to me if I had to pick something that really was the difference it would probably be the Patriots' defense limiting the effect of the turnover with a three and out near midfield. McCourty shutting the door on Hurns.

This team was ripe for the pickings and somehow pulled out yet another improbably victory. After the D Lew fumble the collective anti-pats nation must have been at a fever pitch.
My entire non-New England timeline on twitter is absolutely fucking furious and thinks the NFL is rigged for the Pats because of the DPI call for Cooks on the drive that made it 20-17

Can't beat the refs...amazing.

On one of the biggest plays of the game, the Jags O Lineman shoved our pass rusher in the back on the ground directly in front of the official.

Refs gave in to their pass interference fatigue and stopped calling obvious ones on Jax. Etc.

Pats earned the hell out of that win, anyone who can't acknowledge it is purely jealous.

The optics look bad, but there were two huge holds not called on the Jags and two PF not called on Jack.

Refs?

The Pats had the ball 1st and 10 at the Jags 30 with five minutes left and a chance to tie or take the lead in the AFCCG.

The Jags had 1st and 10 at the Pats 38 with over two minutes left and a chance to take the lead in the AFCCG.

Anybody who talks about the Jacksonville loss without starting with how those teams executed from those moments is an idiot. These games usually come down to those plays and this one did as well

Brady - because reasons

Amendizzle - two iron-nuts snags in the 4th quarter (the Romo "hit the ground!" catch and the go-ahead teeder.

Gilmore - Bortles didn't lose this game like he many thought he would.

My Pats hater friends are imploding in a vortex of hatred and I cannot decide whether beautiful or hilarious is the more apt adjective.

Small observation, but curious about something. On the Lewis fumble, was Jack down before he threw it on the ground? It was driving me crazy that they never really showed a replay of what happened after that. Did it go out of bounds? I didn't think he was down, but the broadcasters never asked that question. Maybe inconsequential if it bounced out of bounds, but what if he was not down and a) he could have run for however many more yards? b) if a patriot had recovered after he slammed it to the ground?

Brady, Gilmore, Dola. Gotta give a shoutout to Sam Adams too. Switched from whiskey to beer and it all went right. Still a difference maker 240 years later, atta boy Sammy!

He definitely made contact with Lewis while fighting for the ball. He was down by contact.

The play of the game may have been the refs correctly calling delay of game on the Jags that negated a first. That is so often missed, and at that point NEP could not afford a first down conversion

Brady delivered a pass to Amendola right before the TD, the one Jack was injured on, that looked like a Kimbrel fastball. I have no idea how he can still gun it in there like that, all things considered.

Cooks for his knack for drawing penalties and for a while was our only guy beating man coverage consistently.

Develin, Hogan, Allen, Fleming and everyone that helped clear out the Jacksonville defense for Lewis’ run to seal it.

He has already been mentioned by James Harrison on the final two plays of the game came up huge. First with the sack and second pressuring Bortles and moving him off his spot.

deep inside Guido territory
The entire team gets a game ball. Every unit contributed. Brady, Dola, Gilmore, Lewis, Cooks with his best game as a Patriot, Brown, RJF, Punt return unit, Solder/Develin for the blocks on the winning Lewis run, Harrison. Everyone man. Everyone.

I would have never expected to like James Harrison as much as I do right now. Ideal fit for him was situational pass rusher and he came up huge today when he was needed the most.

At least according to ESPN Van Noy was credited with the sack. He blew up Yeldon.

the refs are being brought up because we only had one penalty called on us the whole game, a kickoff return hold, and clearly that can't possibly be right in an NFL game because no NFL team could possibly be that disciplined.

Refs were letting them play, the penalties called on the Jags were far from ticky tacky, and their corners played aggressive all game. Got away with some, didn't with others, that's how it goes when you play this style of defense. Just ask the Seahawks or the '14 Patriots. Pats don't really play like that, and it's not like refs were calling holding or illegal contact on every opportunity. Seems like the usual cry fest. They were up 10 points with the ball in the 4th quarter.

Agreed. That is exactly correct.
