Surprised that this thread hasn't been bumped in a while.

Ultimate Fight Night tonight:
-I haven't watched Cole Miller fight since a little after he was on The Ultimate Fighter. He looked like years better and his stand up was outstanding. I was very impressed with his performance.
-Don Anjos got a very nice leg compression on Tyson that looked really nasty, but Tyson prevailed. It was an okay fight.
-I only caught the last minute of the Bader fight, but he looks like an absolute monster.
-I had the fight scored 29-28 for Condit, but that fight was technical. I loved watching the transitions between the two guys, I think Condit's striking is one of the best in the division. Kampmann has impressed me ever since he was a middleweight (that arm triangle after getting stunned by Drew McFedries was awesome). This will probably get fight of the night.

Sort of watching TUF right now. Will edit to say if it's worth watching. Interesting concept, it will be interesting to see if patriotism helps training etc more than seasons past.

My buddy was on TUF and currently trains with BJ, although knee surgery is keeping him out of action for a while.
What's his name?

edit - I watched the TUF premiere. I like the concept, but it seems like the US fighters should clean up against the Brit team. We'll see how good the US fighters look this week.

UFC 100 is July 11th. Possibly one of the biggest most stacked cards of all time

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir for the Heavyweight Title
Georges St. Pierre vs Thiago Alves for the Welterweight Title
Dan Henderson vs Michael Bisping

are the 3 main events. Tickets were supposed to go on sale tomorrow but actually sold out during the fanclub & newsletter presales.

Yeah my brother dropped $800 on Stubhub for 2 tickets. He was not missing this for the world. However on the positive side I guess he was able to take advantage of the group rate UFC is offering to stay in Mandalay Bay.

We really need a subforum for Canseco, ARod, Tyson, and Clemens. This should be known by all.

On May 26 on HDNet, Jose Canseco is set to be beaten to death - I mean, to make his MMA debut:

QUOTE
Then we have two kickboxers who occasionally dabble in MMA -- Mark Hunt and 7-foot-2 Korean Hong Man Choi.

Choi's first opponent: former baseball player Jose Canseco. Yes, that Jose Canseco.

Multiple sources are reporting this, Sherdog and MMA Junkie among them and has been confirmed by Canseco's marketing agent Bernie J. Gernay. The official Dream site has a cardboard cutout of Canseco next to a cardboard cutout of Choi. Safe to say Choi will have the reach advantage.

Canseco's boxing experience is mixed. Former NFL player Vai Sikahema knocked him out. He then earned a majority draw against radio personality and former Partridge Family star Danny Bonaduce.

Choi mostly sticks to kickboxing but has been a fixture of New Year's Eve MMA cards for the past three years, including a credible bout against No. 1-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. He's 1-2 in official MMA bouts.

Here is Jose's opponent fighting a guy who is listed at 6' 231lbs.

Guys, it's finally happening:

Barnett vs Emelianenko.
So Fedor will finally face the other top competition in the world besides his fight against Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic back in 2005. I miss PRIDE so much. It was by far the best competition in the world featuring the most entertainment. Mirko is on his way back (to the UFC) but I'm excited to see Fedor fight someone of quality. Every time Barnett had a chance to face Fedor in PRIDE, Mirko stood in his way, well now is Barnett's chance. This is absolutely epic fight. BY FAR.

PRIDE's decade of awesomeness is comparable to what the 80s were for the NBA. I really can't foresee there ever being a better promotion. Makes me sad how it all ended.

Anyway, this should be halfway decent fight. Barnett is no dummy, so he won't beat himself like Andrei did, but I don't see where he has the advantage in any category. His biggest strength is on the ground and Fedor will just tear right through anything he has to offer.

Mike Brown defeated Urijah Faber for the second time to retain his WEC Featherweight Title. Urijah suffered a broken hand which limited his striking ability:

I don't know where Urijah goes from here. He has lost to the current title holder twice and will need to do something substantial to get another title shot. On the other hand, he is still the brightest star in the WEC besides Miguel Torres (Carlos Conditt was a big star before they got rid of the Welterweight division). I didn't actually get to see the match, but I'm sure I'll catch it during one of the 111,229 reruns of WEC Wrecage.

UFC 99 this weekend headlined by Franklin-Wanderlei and the return of the one and only Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic. It should be an interesting card.

Ultimate Fighter Finale tonight has what could be a really good fight - Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida.

I have dropped in and out out the UFC game over the past 8 months, but these guy can bring it. Should be a high energy fight.

Alright, we're two days away from this year's superbowl of mma. I feel like mma doesn't get enough love on this board, but for those who are not aware of this fact, UFC 100 is completely stacked with 2 and 1/2 true main events. For those not familiar with the UFC or potentially interested in the card, here's a 2 minute preview

Lesnar vs Mir

Mir ruined Brock's UFC debut in 2008. Lesnar (a former WWE superstar) dominated the standup early, rocked Mir with a huge right and was dropping hammerfists when the fight went to the ground. A ref standup resulted in a similar occurrence before Mir caught Lesnar with an ankle lock which forced him to tap only a minute and a half into the first round. Lesnar went from completely dominant to tapping out in a matter of seconds. Since then, Lesnar has dominated Heath Herring for 15 minutes and taken the UFC heavyweight title from Randy Couture with a second round TKO. Since beating Lesnar, Mir became the first man to ever stop Big Nog (his 4 previous losses all came by decision) and won the UFC interim heavyweight title. This fight is for the unified title

My prediction: I think the fight follows a similar path as their first encounter, only Mir doesn't hit the ankle lock. I think Brock dominates the first round before winning by tko in the second

St Pierre vs Alves

George St Pierre is one of the most electric fighters in mma and a top 3 p4p fighter in the world. However, he has a big test (a genuinely big test as Alves walks around at 190 for a welterweight and missed hitting weight by 4 pounds in his last fight with Matt Hughes). Alves is going to be the power guy in this fight with St Pierre looking to stick and move and hit a takedown when possible.

My prediction: This fight can really go in so many different directions, but I see two distinct possible outcomes: St Pierre by decision or Alves by KO. I'm going with St Pierre

Henderson vs Bisping
Dan Henderson is a former pride light heavyweight and middleweight champ in Pride who was an olympic wrestler. He is also nearing the downside of his career. Michael Bisping is a former The Ultimate Fighter winner who is 8-1 in the UFC (although a few controversial decisions are located in that record *cough* Hamill). These two fighters were opposing coaches on this previous season of the Ultimate Fighter and there seems to be some general dislike between them.

Prediction: Henderson by ground and pound round 3

Other notables to look for:

Yoshihiro Akiyama makes his much hyped UFC debut
Stefan Bonnar vs Mark Coleman - Lets see if Bonnar is the man to finally retire the past his prime mma star
Jon Jones - Phenomenal athlete with loads of potential. Still extremely raw, but has a very exciting fighting style.

PUT IT ON UFC RIGHT NOW!

This Akiyama-Belcher fight has been fantastic thus far.

Because it's better than boxing. Akiyama looks gassed but has probably had the better of stand up. Belcher has improved as this fight has gone on.

YOU'VE BEEN JUDO'D.

Fucking fantastic fight. Decision: Split for Akiyama.

Belcher just got robbed.

He won the first and third rounds easily.

The 30-27 decision was absolutely ridiculous because Belcher definitely won round 3. However, the first two rounds were very close. It could've gone either way. If they scored the fight on a whole instead of by rounds, I think Belcher won the fight. He scored more damage and was more active at the end of the fight. Akiyama was gassed at the end of the first round. It was an excellent fight, and if it doesn't win the fight of the night, we're in for a treat tonight.

Henderson-Bisping now, this should be glorious. I love Henderson's greco-roman, and I've been impressed with Bisping's improvement since TUF 3.

Belcher won the first round 10-9 because of the knockdown. He also won the third.

This is the problem with MMA because there's not a uniform way to score a fight. It's all subjective rather than objective. I would love to see the fightmetric to the fight.

Henderson looks good.

The one on the way down was just plain mean.

He was already down and out. I was surprised he admitted that he shouldn't have thrown it ("to shut him up").

This card is fucking amazing. Thiago Alves-Georges St. Pierre next? There is a God.

Alves was a +240 heading into this fight. Would've been a not bad bet. I hope this is a fucking war.

FRENCH CANADIAN HIP HOP.

WHO YOU GOT PEOPLE? THE BRAZILIAN OR THE FRENCH CANADIAN?

sorry way too excited.

Good first round for GSP, seemed like Thiago was really feeling him out, would like to see him throw more in the second.

Domination.

The great Randy Couture said that he likes to impose his will on his opponent. That is what Georges did tonight. I am truly more impressed every time I see him in the Octagon. I thought Thiago would pose a threat, but GSP is the best Welterweight in the world. This was just an absolutely dominant performance.

Hoo-hoo-hoo hoosier land.
I'm new to this. Why does everyone hate Lesnar so much? Because of the carryover of his WWE persona? I thought it was kind of funny, and Mir seemed like a huge douche before the fight. But I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

WWE is part of the deal, but larger because he's seen as an "outsider" that just came in and immediately got sent to the top without working his way up. To his credit thanks in part to being in the WWE he's learned to cut one fucking great promo.

That post-match interview with Brock was pure gold. As a matte of fact, everything that Brock did between the time the match stopped and the time he left the ring was pure gold (getting in Mir's face, flipping off the fans, the interview). I love this guy for the same reason I love Tony Stewart. I hate UFC and NASCAR fans because they like a stupid sport. In turn, I root for the guy that most fans consider the douche bag in their respective sport.

I'm a big proponent of technique. I think Lesnar is just so powerful and so athletic that he gets by without having good technique. Then you have his attitude. I think he's a good guy, but I don't like his sportsmanship. Mir is one of the best guys in the sport. He's a great story too. You should read up on what happened to him and how far he has come.

Lesnar very well may be an asshole in real life, but he's playing heel here. Somewhere, Vince McMahon is smiling proudly. The line about drinking a Coors Light was hilarious.

Mir showed up in fantastic shape and just got smothered. Lack of technique or not, Lesnar looks like the best heavyweight this side of Emelianenko (God, that fight would be awesome). From what little understand, the winner of the Shane Carwin/Cain Velasquez UFC 104 fight is next in line. I don't see any way Lesnar doesn't steamroll either one of them.

Lesnar is a douche and Herb Dean let him lay on top of Mir way too long without pressing the action during the 2nd round but fair is fair and Brock busted Mir up good with those punches.

Also the Akiyama decision from the first fight was such bullshit.

I'm watching ESPN's post fight show. Lesnar apologizes to the younger viewers for his post-fight antics and Bud Light. Says he wants to fight Fedor.

Brock seems like a nice guy now that he's calmed down. Maybe it's not an act, and he's just a lunatic when the adrenaline is pumping.

I would concur. Everytime I have seen him pre or post fight in interviews he seems like a generally nice guy. His MMA live interview was pretty spot on, apologized and more or less said he can't help himself once the blood gets pumped up. I think he could use some words of wisdom form Dana White about not taunting the fans, and maybe watching his mouth and such. Guys like Forest get a lot of fan love cause he's generally humble, and appreciates the fans. Brock could use a little of that. Maybe he just hate's Mir. Its entirely possible he just hates Frank, and let his emotions get the better of him.

Lesnar said both before and after the fight that he didn't have anything against Mir, but I wonder how true that really is. You could see in the interviews how irritated he was by Mir's skits and trash talk. After he lost to Mir the first time, Brock was very humble and said all the right things - not an easy thing to do after how that fight went down. I'm sure he didn't appreciate Mir returning the favor by constantly taunting him.

QUOTE (Bongorific @ Jul 12 2009, 06:31 PM) index.php?act=findpost&pid=2417781
I would love watching Fedor absolutely school him.

It would be a monster fight. Mir did some damage with his strikes before Lesnar smothered him for the final time, and Mir's only a fraction of the striker that Fedor is. At the same time, Brock will have roughly 50 pounds on Fedor. I think we'll see it at some point. At the very least, Dana White has been talking like it will happen.
