I'm sure money paid to Jackson for his UFC fights has alot to do with Rampage's decision to "quit" MMA, but let's not kid ourselves here. Dana White basically fucked this thing up when he publicly dogged Rampage after Jackson accepted the role of B.A. Baracus in the A-Team movie.

I don't fault Jackson one bit for accepting a role in a huge, big budget Hollywood flick over further risking himself to injury fighting in MMA. Yet, White had to run off his big mouth again and put at risk a potentially huge fight between Jackson and Evans.

I don't fault him either. I don't know how big this movie actually is, but I think Page knows that he's the most marketable fighter in the Light Heavyweight division. He's American, he's good, and he's a part of the hip hop culture. He has all the leverage in this case because the American public hasn't taken to Lyoto or Shogun yet. I love both of those fighters, but they've got a lot of work to do to be more popular than Rampage.

Rashad and Forrest just aren't as good.

Dana dropped the ball on this one. His opportunity to give Lyoto a shot at gaining publicity and appreciation just went out the window I LOVE Randy, but don't waste our time giving him a title shot.

All my friends are sure that Kimbo is going to crush Big Country next week on the TUF but I don't see it. Thoughts?

Didn't see this prior to the fight. Kimbo still needs a lot of work. Big Country had his way with him. We'll have to see who Kimbo gets matched with for Ultimate Fight Night in a couple months. Be interesting to track how the ratings fare going forward.

Based on the previews it looks like Kimbo might get another shot this season.

Granted I haven't watched the first two rounds, but Shogun won the other three rounds (which I DID see). The fact that he lost the fight. Very controversial with me. I sincerely don'y mind Lyoto winning, but Shogun beat him in all three rounds I watched, and I'm about to watch every round again.

I couldn't believe the final decision of this fight . Shogun completely destroyed Machida for five rounds. Shoguns leg and sidekicks pound Machida to a pulp. SG should be the new champ .

The crowd boo'd LOUDLY when the decision was annonced .

IMO, Shogun won rounds 1, 2, 4, AND 5. This was clear to anybody watching.

It also looked like Dana told Shogun that he "had won that fight" but I'm not 100% sure.

RematchQUOTE
“I think there will be a rematch in that fight," said White. "I talked to both of them and they both agreed to a rematch.”

Rua voiced his opinion at the post-fight press conference that he's welcome to a second bout with the champion.

“Of course I’m thinking about a rematch ever since the fight, and if that’s Dana’s wish and Lyoto’s wish, I’ll fight him anywhere, anytime, wherever. It’s just a matter of people wanting to put the fight together," said the former top ranked 205-pounder in the world.

Machida also expressed that he'd take the immediate rematch. “Of course if the UFC decides we should have a rematch then let’s have a rematch," said the champion.

White feels the rematch will live up to expectations.

“You never want to hear people booing the main event. It’s unfortunate. That’s why I truly believe, I think this will be a good rematch," White told the media following UFC 104.

"I think they’re both going to come in and not make the same mistakes they made this first fight. They’re going to come in and each one is going to try to win decisively.”

“I’m pretty confident the rematch will be a different fight for both guys," said the UFC president. “I guarantee the next fight is going to be much different.

“I think that the second fight will be the fight we want to see," White added. “I love this rematch. I think it’s a great rematch.
I don't think anyone will say the fight was a war, but it was definitely technical in the way that the fighters game planned and executed their strategies. Hopefully, we see more from both in the rematch.

Don't leave it to the judgesQUOTE
“The first round could have gone either way. I gave the second and third to Machida and then I gave the fourth and fifth to Shogun,” he revealed. “So assuming that Shogun won the first, fourth, and fifth, he wins the fight. Was it a close fight? Yeah, it was a close fight.”

While fans and fighters alike come down hard on the overall state of judging in mixed martial arts, White repeated the words he has uttered often, “You can’t leave it in the hands of the judges. You just can’t do it.”

Most fighters that weighed in after the bout vehemently favored Shogun as the winner, but echoed White’s sentiment.

“I honestly thought Shogun won and I thought it should have went to him, but like Dana says, you can’t leave it to the judges,” said Joe Stevenson, who won earlier in the night.

Anthony Johnson also fought at UFC 104, assessed it the same, "I think Shogun won, (but) neither one of them went out there like they should have."

Fighters from Kenny Florian to “Razor” Rob McCullough to Efrain Escudero voiced their opinions that Shogun had earned the belt, but Joe Lauzon summed it up succinctly on his Twitter account, “This is why... You NEVER leave it to the judges! When you finish your opponent, you don’t need to worry about judges!”
They always say don't leave it to the judges. It's always about finishing fights. However, I think judges need to be more educated on how to score bouts. We have a lot of regulations as to what is and isn't allowed, but there hasn't been much on how to score a fight. I don't want to start with the ten point must system, but I did like Pride's scoring better.

So, does anyone know what exactly is wrong with Lesnar? Dana White intimated that he was seriously ill and that his career, if not his life, may be in jeopardy

Probably not, but I don't see it happening. If Hardy can keep the fight on his feet and strike with GSP he could win, but, much like his fight with Alves, GSP will wrestle the shit out of Hardy and keep it on the ground where he'll just pound on him. I like Hardy, I think his striking is superb, but GSP's athleticism and wrestling are just too much for almost anyone to overcome. Should be a good fight though, I'm very excited about it.

As a heads up for fans, we could be looking at the match of year as Mike Thomas Brown meets Jose Aldo tomorrow night in the WEC for the Featherweight belt. Should be electric.

Dana White confirmed in an interview with the Boston Herald yesterday that Zuffa has reserved an August 28th date at the TD Garden for the first UFC show in Massachusetts. If all goes well there then they will likely run a show at Fenway Park in the summer of 2011

Cung Le with the first loss - too much showboating kicks and dropped his defenses. What a comeback KO by Scott Smith.
Yeah, Le had that fight won -- he dominated the first two rounds and looked like he was in control into the third. I wonder if conditioning was a factor (Le hasn't fought in almost two years) as he did looked somewhat tired the second half of the second round and definitely more so in the third.

Not very impressed by that performance from Rashad. It felt like it was just lacking something. Yes he took Thiago down at will, but did nothing to keep the fight there was and seemed like he was fighting for a decision. The only thing I can be happy about is now the fight between he and Rampage will take place. Which I think Rampage wins, either by KO or TKO.

Agreed with all of this. It seemed to me Rashad and his team/corner were just exploiting the faults of the American MMA judging system. Takedowns worth way too much even if you do absolutely NOTHING with the takedowns. Those takedowns wore Silva down but Evans did nothing from the top. Threw no more than 5 punches from the top when he took Silva down, I believe, 8 times.

Fighters do not get enough credit for trying to finish a fight. Granted, anyway you sliced this fight, Rashad won, but I still believe this is exactly what he had in mind as the strategy for the fight. Not quite lay and pray but not quite going for it either, which sucks and is fucking boring... especially compared to the really GREAT fights that card had prior to the Main Event.

And if Rampage catches Evans square once, that fight is over.

Great to hear that he is alright.

I'm pretty excited about the next couple of months man. UFC 110 is going to be a must order.. Cain/Nogueira, Bipsing/Wandy ..Joe Daddy is fighting and one of my personal favorites Keith Jardine goes up against Bader. Then you have Hardy and GSP*. I still think Hardy can win! And a couple months later it is a ridiculous card with Machida/Shogun II, Rampage/Evans, Daley/Koshcheck and even Kimbo is rumored to be involved. Fucking nuts.

* Shit, I forgot the Mir/Carwin bout for the interim heavyweight belt. Which will lead to (New and Improved) Mir/Lesnar III. Christ.

Very happy with the results of that card and it was a great card overall.

Bisping thinks he actually won that fight, I'd be willing to give him round 1, but he got choked out in round 2 - if there had been about 5-10 seconds more in the round, it'd have been over - he was ready to tap and his facial expression after the bell ring said it all, and he got knocked out in round 3 - again, a few more seconds, a few more punches and its over, when he stood up he was wobbly. Bisping looked pretty mediocre throughout the fight, he had some nice takedowns, but his standup looked pretty awful. Silva had absolutely no respect for it and was just wading in there throwing wild haymakers - even more than Silva is known for. I love Silva but he didn't look like someone that will be or should be in title contention, a very exciting fighter that I love to death, but he didn't look very impressive either.

Cain solidified himself as the top heavyweight contender IMO. Strong wrestler, great striking, great cardio, I really like him a lot and think he is going to hold the belt next. I do question how he'd deal with Brock's size and strength, but he has all the tools to be a champion and he seems like a great guy to boot. I did feel bad for Nogueira, who was visibly upset, I don't think he has the ability to beat any of the top contenders right now, which is pretty sad, because he was great in PRIDE.

The next event is the UFC LIVE on Versus, which is friggin stacked. Vera v. Jones, JDS v. Gonzaga, Kongo v. Buentello. Those are all going to be great fights. After that is UFC 111: GSP v. Hardy, Mir V. Carwin, along with Nate Diaz, Thiago Alves, and Jon Fitch ( ). Awesome.

Yea, Mike, I know he sucks but I happen to root for Jardine. I think it's just a general love for fighters out of Greg Jackson's camp. Except for next months bout, where I'm going to have to put my bias away and root for Dan Hardy. I love that guy. The charisma, the mouth, the heavy hands. He would make for an exciting champion.

While I'm here, has anyone else seen the Chuck Liddell/Heidi Northcott naked workout video?

I'd rather not see Chuck Liddell naked Rem. I'm also a Jardine fan though. I just don't know how many more chances Danas' going to give him.

Frank Mir mentioned on a Pittsburgh radio interview last week that he wants to be the first person to kill another man in the cage (Brock Lesnar). Also said he thinks Lesnar is a poor role model????. I hope Lesnar beats him up even worse this time.

Mir should be thinking about his next fight with Carwin befor even thinking about stalking Lesnar.

Yea, but Heidi has a great set of legs and an awesome ass, you should check it out for that.

I think Mir is going to come out and DESTROY Carwin. And quick too. A repeat of Cain/Nogueira in my opinion. Does he even have holes in his game? His ground is phenomenal and his stand up is equally great. And the cardio is a given. He is a monster right now at 265.

Does he even have holes in his game?

If your talking about Mir, The only hole in his game is his wrestling. If he can stop Brocks take downs he has a better chance than anyone. Mir would be the last guy I would want to fight. He wants to break peoples bones and end careers. His ground JJS is the best in the game right now and your right Rem, his stand up has improved tremendously since knocking out big Nog.

I was hoping that the winner of Mir/Carwin would have to fight Cain V. with the winner facing Brock.

I still think Brock can always defeat Mir 8 times out 0f 10 just because of his size and his ground and pound. If Mir catches him in a Sub you can be sure he's going to break bones. I'm sure Brock knows this and it can't be a good feeling. Brock is really still just a Rookie in MMA.

The UFC HW devision is great right now if everyone stays healthy.

Rumors running rampant that James Toney will take on Kimbo Slice. Which is bullshit. I wanted Matt Mitrione to show Kimbo what true knockout power looked like.

EDIT: Yea, snowplow, the HW division is stacked right now. Aside from all the big named HW bouts, I'm actually looking forward to seeing Roy nelson fight Stefan Struve. One is 6'0 265 LBs and the other is 6'11 of skinny. That's just great TV.

Even though Nelson won TUF, I still think he's way under rated. I Love that he's self trained and self taught. One things for sure, Nelson isn't going to sell any tickets on his own and Dana White knows this. Dana obviously doesn't like him.

James Toney is going to find out quickly that without a wrestling back ground or any kind of ground game he may not last long. OTOH, he'll always have a one punch knockout chance. I'm looking forward to his first time in the Octogon.

Here is the thing, Toney is going be a huge blowup. This is Dana's counter to Herschel Walker.

Walker is a freak of nature, one of the truly great gifted athletes of this or any generation. Not many can do what he is doing at his age, especially as a beginner.

You might laugh, but if Walker worked on his finishing skills and became good, Herschel vs Couture, if Herschel ever went to UFC would be one heck of a fight.

I re-watched GSP/Serra I a few days ago, and I hate to say it, but I feel that's what Hardy has to go in there and do. Easier said than done, of course, but GSP is going to go in there and try to wear The Outlaw down with his takedowns and pressing him up against the cage. Another fight I recently re-watched was Hardy's last bout against Swick and what do you know, Hardy spent a good portion of the match trying to take Swick down and exchanging blows pressed up against the cage. Even after Hardy kept rocking him with his standup. It seemed like Hardy was working on a few things he plans on needing for GSP.

Speaking of Couture, he twittered today "I hope to be the first to welcome Mr toney to mma :)"

Well unless Hardy has some amazing takedown defense, he's going to get treated like Alves. It always happens with the greats, Penn, Silva and GSP, when it comes time to defend their belt again people start liking the odds of the challenger and point out things they can do and then those three all beat the holy hell out of their opponent. All three of those guys are on a different level, especially Penn and Silva. GSP will continually punish Hardy and take him down at will and if GSP doesn't get a TKO victory from some vicious GnP, Hardy will just end up with a unanimous decision loss and a messed up face. I'd like to be wrong and see a really good fight, but Hardy will probably come out strong early and GSP will eventually take control and shut him down.

Yeah, not many people gave 49-year old Ray Mercer much of a chance against Tim Sylvia in an MMA bout either. Of course, he knocked out Sylvia with a single punch 9 seconds into the fight.

Any high-level former professional boxer has a chance if they can land a shot.
