Holy hell I hadn't even looked at the prelims. Baroni vs Taveras should be entertaining as well.

I definitely think the talent pool has been getting deeper and deeper. MMA keeps evolving and we're seeing that translate into great cards. I can't wait until 5-10 years down the line when we see practically everyone coming up with MMA as their background, meaning training since they were 14-16years old.

WTF

So what do they do now? Edgar fights Pettis, with Gray fighting someone in the mean time. Hopefully, he and Edgar both win, and Gray gets his rematch?

I'm sure Dana will clarify in the press conference. I had a feeling that was going to be a draw after that round 1. It was a great show of heart and determination by Edgar and I think the 47-47 guy probably had it rightly scored. People will complain about it, but I don't know if you can give Gray the fight just from round 1 even if that's where 95% of the damage in this fight happened. Frankie methodically picked apart Gray for the remaining rounds. Whatever, I don't want to get too much into the scoring system. I hope for an instant rematch, but I don't know if that's going to happen. Talon told me that's the first Zuffa draw in a title fight. Interesting night.

Yeah, Silva looked nasty there. Nice statement by Stann too.

Never been a big fan of Edgar (still can't comprehend in my head the fact he beat BJ twice), and was honestly expecting him to get rolled tonight. He definitely scored some respect points here though.

I haven't seen any of the fights yet but I am reading that Edgar v Maynard III is up next which is the right thing to do.

Check out this pick from Dynamite. Sweet shot of Caol Uno going for a ride on a Miyata supplex.

A little bit of a suprise imo to see that Diego Nunes beat Mike Brown via split Dec.

Now that Stann is training with Greg Jackson it wouldn't suprise me at all to see Stann fighting for the strap in the near future. He has crazy power and proved it last night.

Dana is saying Edgar/Maynard 3 is a definate so...who does Anthony Pettis fight? I kind of feel bad for Edgar, he always has to prove twice that he is the undisputed champ.

There must be some truth to the rumours that Lesnar wants out of his UFC contract to go back to the WWE. Otherwise I think we would see Dana squash them.

Pettis will just have to sit and wait for his turn to come much like Cain did.

...and perhaps Edgar should not specialize in finishing his fights via the decision.

Chael Sonnen faces a maximum sentence of 20 years and a $500,000 fine after pleading guilty to money laundering related to mortgage fraud. Link

There was no analysis as to what he will most likely face as far as jail time, and I have no idea what pleading guilty to this would face; soooo, any insights would be appreciated.

Edit: another link said Sonnen is expected to cooperate as a witness and expected to get a sentence that is "considerably lighter." He'll be sentenced on March 28. Link

Additional Edit: And the Government is recommending two years of probation, so no jail time. Link

Fedor will make his return on the February 12th Strikeforce show in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He'll be fighting Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva. Strikeforce will be doing an all heavyweight eight fight card.

I'm hoping to see Fedor vs. Overeem in the semis. I'm not quite sure Fedor will be able to get passed Silva though.

Edit-thanks commander shears

Is there any argument against whoever wins this tournament (assuming it's someone from the left side of the bracket) is the number one heavyweight in the world?

Initially I thought it odd that all the top competitors were on the same side of the bracket (i.e., Fedor, Big Foot Silva, Overeem and Werdum), I sat on it and now it makes perfect sense to me.

What StrikeForce is really doing is just putting together the matches that would occur normally this year and calling it in a "tournament" for marketing purposes.

For example, most people were clamoring for Overeem to fight Werdum for his next fight. This the Overeem/Werdum pairing makes sense as it's the the champ against the top contender fight. As for Fedor, we all knew Fedor had to come off a win in order to get a title shot, so that's why he's given the chance to face the winner of Overeem-Werdum by defeating Silva.

Thus, the winner of the left side of the bracket is the StrikeForce champion as would have been determined by normally scheduled matches whereas the the right side of the bracket just enables StrikeForce to come up with one last $$$ pay-day with their "second tier" and new fighters under the guise of holding a "tournament."

I wish it was Pride Grand Prix style with all the fights taking place in one night. Unfortunately, it's more like the Super Six boxing tournament being staged on Showtime right now with fights taking place throughout the year culminating with the final fight.

As it stands now, for the initial rounds, the Fedor/Silva fight and the Arlovski/Kharitonov fight are scheduled for February 12 in East Rutherford, NJ. The Rogers/Barnett fight and Werdum/Overeem are scheduled for April at a location TBA.

Thats the way I understood it. I was dissapointed at first that it's not. Now.... I like the idea that there will be at least two heavyweight fights on three cards. I'm glad strikeforce is making long term commitments/contract with Diaz and most recently Fedor. With Strikeforces survival we get to see more Fighting...and I kinda like that.

Totally agree with this point. Anyone who is a fan of MMA has to be glad that their are two viable outlets to turn to for their MMA fix. Competition always results in a better product.

With that being said, I just wish Strikeforce would deviate from the unified rules and allow soccer kicks to the body!

Marcus Davis was cut by the UFC. I'm disappointed, as he always put on a show and never gave up. He is 37, so the end was coming soon. I haven't heard if he's retiring or not yet. Link

Brandon Vera was cut as well. He had a strong run to start his career, but since then has been less than stellar. Link

GSP and Jake Shields is official on April 30 at UFC 129. GSP keeps getting homefield advantage. Link

Among others on the card:
Couture and Machida (he leveraged his retirement well)
Henderson and Bocek
Brookins and Makdessi
Rory McDonald and Wilks

Brock Lesnar Vs. Junior dos Santos: Stop The Presses! TUF 13 Coaches Comfirmed

WOW !!!! I can't believe Brock agreed to coach TUF. I'm seriously stoked to get an inside look at Lesnar and get to know JDS. I really don't think Lesnar can stop JDS's stand up but, we'll see if Brock is working on his defense.

I love love love love this.

JDS should win this easily too. Brock does not like to be hit and JDS has some of the best stand up in MMA.

Whaaaaaat? I'm confused about the decision. Brock will make great tv, but, seriously, they could get someone much more knowledgeable. I guess if he surrounds himself with some good coaches, it doesn't matter.

You said it though, Brock Lesnar trains with the best people around. That motherfucker created his own camp and tailors it to his needs. And then there is JDS and his Blackhouse crew... the next TUF should have some star studded coaches much like GSP/Koscheck.

I'm starting to believe that Nick Diaz is the best fighter in the world right now.(or at the very least the most entertaining)....Granite Chin, first class stand- up, killer ground instincts, Fights to his opponents strengths and goes for the finish.

Yea, he can put on a show and I hate that he isn't in the UFC. I'd love to see him stand up with GSP and to see his BJJ vs GSP's wrestling and BJJ.

Anyone else notice Diaz and Cesear Gracie run and flip off Mayhem Miller? That fight should so happen.

I figured that was who Diaz was flipping off. Strikeforce tried to keep it under wraps this time. Unfortunately I don't think this fight will be happening anytime soon. Diaz said last week (The source escapes me)That he's not going to jump weightclass unless he gets a huge payday. I can't say as I blame him. Miller won't try and cut weight to Fight and Diaz is looking at it from a business standpoint.

Edit-Hey Rem, Were those Cyborg leg kicks nasty or what?

It was reported that the people he was flipping off and said "Fuck you bitch" to were a random group of fans talking shit and giving his corner a hard time. After they threw the water in the octagon, bottles rained down on them from other fans.

I'm not sure Diaz could beat Fitch, Shields, or GSP, but I do know is he by far the most entertaining fighter out of that group. Probably out of anyone in MMA right now. I love the guy, but he is still going to struggle with wrestlers, especially ones who have good top control. How he ate Cyborg's kicks and kept coming forward like that, still throwing bombs, I will never know. Not only that, but he was also eating some heavy punches from Cyborg, who doesn't hit lightly. He needs to fight as often as possible and I'm salivating at the idea of him fighting Daley.

By the way, Strikeforce has put on two GREAT cards back to back. Their production value stinks and they don't have the depth that the UFC does, but that doesn't mean their shows aren't entertaining, even Herschel Walker's fight managed to be exciting.

It reminded me of his younger brother purposefully taking shots from Marcus Davis who comes from a boxing background. The Diaz brothers seem to try to make a point of winning in this fashion. "Yea, I took your best shot now take some of mine."

Does anyone know if/when Wanderlei Silva is fighting again?
It's been a year since he fought Bisping this week. I'm not sure when he will fight again and I couldn't find any info. If Chael Sonnen was reinstated I'm pretty sure they would set up a fight.

The UFC 126 Weigh Ins were fucking intense!

Anderson wore a white mask and pressed his face up against Vitors during the stare down. Afterward he removed the mask and both men proceed to talk a bunch of smack in Portuguese to each other. They had to be separated!

Back story:
“I just know one thing, when you say silly things, when you do silly things, it’s because you’re worried and you’re trying to wear a mask,” Belfort said during Thursday’s media workouts. “The way I fight, and the way I am, I have respect.
“I just need to wear one mask, myself.”

Theres no way that fight can go the distance. If anybodys going to stop a motivated Anderson Silva it's Vitor. (maybe GSP)

Front kicks are typically used to push an opponent back. I've never seen a knockout from one. Vitor just stood there and took it.
Silva is just way to quick. Who's next?

It's absolutely ridiculous to get that much power from a front kick. Those kicks are usually pestering and annoying. Granted, it wasn't his lead leg, but still. Just ridiculous. That's like knocking someone out with a jab... oh wait... he's done that, too.

Probably GSP if he wins his next fight.

That's what Dana White has been saying.

Jon Jones is getting a title shot at UFC 128. Rashad Evans was originally supposed to fight Shogun, but a knee injury has him out 6-8 weeks. Link

We did the deal literally, I don't know if you saw, but earlier, we told 'Shogun' that, 'Hey, listen, if this kid wins, we want to put him in there for the fight,'" White told MMAjunkie.com after UFC 126, which took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. "We talked for a while about it. Right before Jones and Bader came out, him and his team accepted the fight."

Jones, of course, was left in the dark about the added stakes of the fight. The fast-rising 23-year-old prospect was expected to have his hands full with Bader, an undefeated contender and winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 8."
There's no mention if Bader would have been bumped to a title shot with a victory or not.

Evans said if Jones beats Shogun, he'll bump up to heavyweight to avoid fighting him. Link

"Training with Jones in practice, he's one of the best guys I've ever trained with. The level he's gotten to so fast is scary and alarming. He's one of those guys at the gym, he'll be the first one there and the last one to leave. ... He's hungry, he wants it, so I'm glad if it's going to be someone to step into my place, I'm glad it's him."

"I'm still not going to fight Jon. I will always find something to challenge myself. I will go up to heavyweight or down to middleweight. But I will not fight Jon."
