Yea but Joe Rogan went apeshit. This was a typical Garcia fight. Throw a billion wildhaymakers and miss 80% of them while blocking jabs with your face. It's old.

LOL Chael just cut a promo!

"Anderson Silva you absolutely suck."

"I win, you leave the division."

That last right hook that dropped Gray was beautiful. It hit right on his jaw/chin.

It's too bad that it's become clear that Florian's ceiling is contender but not elite/championship level. He'll always be near the top of the weight class he is in, but just isn't on the same level as the Penn's and Aldo's.

I think Maynard was terrified of punching himself out again, and basically gave the fight back to Edgar.
Yea, you could see he was much more reserved in the 1st when Frankie was going down but when the championship rounds came Gray looked like he had aged 20 years. I really like Gray, he has shed his lay and pray label and is actually a threat standing up. That uppercut is so crisp and deadly but Frankie is the man in that division.

I guess it'll be Bendo vs Frankie and somehow Frankie will be the underdog in that one as well because of his size.

He's got to set it up, though. The uppercut is such a short range, long action punch that it practically begs for a left hook to get the opponent ducking away or at least worrying about something else. After the uppercut that hurt Edgar, all Maynard wanted to do was throw it. It was like Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and he kept hitting the Select button.

There's talks of Frankie/Melendez which would be a great fight. Gilbert has been asking for it and he's on a real roll. I'd love to see it.

Well the problem is he telegraphs it. After Frankie's brain stabilized, he avoided it easily for the rest of the fight. Gray maybe trying to move away from the lay and pray tactics, but he lost because he became one dimensional again and was striking with someone who is 10x the better boxer. He better learn to become a more complete fighter or face becoming irrelevant.

I think Frankie faces Melendez next, but I'm patiently waiting for Frankie vs Aldo.

Pay-Per-View Fights:

-George Roop (145 lbs.) vs. Hatsu Hioki (145 lbs.)
-Jeff Curran (134 lbs.) vs. Scott Jorgensen (135 lbs.)

-Matt Mitrione (255 lbs.) vs. Cheick Kongo (234 lbs.)
-Nick Diaz (170 lbs.) vs. B.J. Penn (169 lbs.)***

*** During the Diaz-Penn staredown, Diaz ducked his head down, pushed it into Penn's head and the two had a pull-apart, including Diaz somewhat swatting at Penn's face with his hand. Diaz immediately left, not sticking around for the typical post-weigh in interview. Penn remained on stage, but gave a quick one-sentence response in his interview. Intense stuff!

I'm not sure about the 35 and 45 bouts but the top 3 fights should be sick. Guaranteed stoppage or knockouts in Big Country/Cro Cop and Mitrione/Kongo.

Chances Diaz/Penn turns into a boxing match?

This is a great fight card Even though GSP had to bow out.

If anyone can get a feed for tonight's fights and share, it would be much appreciated.

I Love Diaz' fights. You know he's going to put on a show for the fans and fight to his opponents strengths.

If you follow @freefights on twitter, there's a bunch of links on there. Am I breaking any forum rules by mentioning that?

Can't wait for Penn/Diaz.

Definately a boxing match it was. I thought if the fight went to the ground BJ had a better chance. But BJ's take down got stuffed too often.
Fighting Diaz toe to toe seems to always be a mistake by any opponent. He out boxed BJ by far, but then again a 4" reach helps.

Cro Cop in his prime was a bad mofo. Most all of those fights were outside the US though. I was fortunate to catch many of his bouts in Japan.
Too bad he could never translate that success here in the states.

Good match-up, you can always bank on a Diaz fight to be entertaining. As for Penn retiring, that was kinda a given ever since he couldn't beat Edgar. We'll see though. They never turn down that "last paycheck" if/when Dana comes offering, and Penn isn't Chuck Liddell cooked or anything.

Tonight sets the table, but still can't see Diaz getting through whatever "fight not to lose" strategy GSP brings to the table (aka: probably scoring enough take down points to win him a decision, while never really threatening to put Diaz away)

This is going to be awesome. I hope Nick can take him out.

Following his win over BJ Penn at UFC 137, Nick Diaz made it clear he wanted Georges St. Pierre in his next fight and called the Champion out despite Dana White saying prior to the event that Carlos Condit was still first in line for a shot at the injured welterweight title holder.

“Where you at Georges? Where you at mother (expletive)? I don’t think Georges is hurt, I think he’s scared. I think he’s scared to fight everybody right now. Where you at Georges?”

Diaz's attempt to rile St. Pierre worked. The first chance St. Pierre, who was in the crowd at UFC 137, had he made the request to Dana White for his next fight to be against Diaz and not Condit.

“I’ve known GSP since 2004, he’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met." UFC President Dana White said at the post fight press conference. "GSP flipped out tonight when Nick was in the ring. Nick needs motivation, he’s got it. He’s gonna fight GSP,”

Although not the official date, the promotion is hoping the fight can take place on Superbowl weekend in February. A visibly beat up Diaz will need to be cleared by a doctor before being allowed to return to training.

I love Diaz but he has no shot to beat GSP off his ass. If it somehow stays standing, which I doubt, Diaz wins in a landslide. GSP has a great jab but Diaz is willing to eat a few of yours to land some of his. BJ touched him up for 3 rounds but that didnt bother Diaz. He is special.

I think Diaz has the ability to win this fight anywhere, including off his ass, mainly because I don't think GSP can finish him, and being on the ground for five rounds with a recklessly aggressive Nick is asking for trouble.

My only guess is Dana promised Carlos that he will fight the winner of GSP/Diaz. I was puzzled by this decision but DW knows that it's going to be a bigger draw than Codit/GSP.
Oh it's obviously the better business move for Dana White. Gotta cash in on Diaz's hype before he loses to someone else and wrecks this matchup.

I'm just saying, from Condit's position... I feel like it'd take A LOT of money being thrown my way to step aside from MY title shot and take a different fight.

I totally agree. My guess is Dana gave him some "perks" to step aside. Condit's a hell of a fighter who will finally get his chance.

This is the beauty of MMA IMO, If it were boxing this fight between GSP/Diaz may never happen, or at the very least, we would have to wait a year. Dana gives the fans what they want and may have to screw someone over in the process.

Me too. This is a huge moment for MMA. BTW how pissed do you think Dana is that Spike is running a day long UFC unleashed marathon and advertising a Junior Do Santos/Cain Velasquez best of compelation at 9pm? Not exactly the programming that results from an amicable split.

They need to show that Henderson Guida fight too.

Fox is really only showing the one fight? They seem to really be missing the boat.

imo, a UFC card is much less reliant on the main event than a boxing card. They should at least be showing 2-3 prelim fights?

Thats one of the many reasons why MMA made such inroads in PPVs once people became familiar with some of the fighters. Seeing a couple of compelling fights on the undercard (anything with Lytle for example) made a dissapointing main event far more acceptible. Also, showing acouple of prelim fights after a main event, time permitting, kept me feeling like the UFC wanted viewers to feel like they got a certain value when they ordered a PPV.

The UFC owes it's initial success to this thinking as Bonner-Griffin was the final undercard bout on a TV special that banked on Ken Shamrock's (limited at the time)name recognition vs. the up and comming Franklin. It was the Bonner Griffin war that made the business changing buzz for the UFC, not seeing Ken slip after a kick and having Rich use his head as a punch balloon.

Just to clarify.

Despite initial rumors, Velasquez versus Dos Santos will be the only fight that will air on Fox, regardless of whether the fight goes "twenty-five minutes or twenty-five seconds" according to UFC President Dana White. The rest of the card will be airing of Facebook and Fox.com, including Ben Henderson versus Clay Guida which post likely will have UFC Lightweight Championship ramifications.

Prior to the event airing on Fox, FUEL TV will be airing a two hour preview show, beginning at 7:00 EST leading up to the fight with Jay Glazer, Stephan Bonnar, and Kenny Florian. Glazer, Bonnar, and Florian will also be doing a post-fight show on FUEL TV after Velasquez versus JDS.

On the Fox broadcast, UFC is bringing in former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar to breakdown the fight, along with White and Curt Menefee of Fox NFL Sundays. Following breakdown and preview of the fight, Velasquez and JDS will be called by Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan.

I love how the fans are booing while the Poirier and Garza are on the ground kicking the crap out of each other, and then Poirier works a beautiful choke, and they're like, oh, we should cheer now?
