Tiger was looking a bit out of it and glassy eyed on the Sunday telecast.

I'll admit giving his history I immediately thought he was high, especially with the recent back surgery.

Single car roll over, I'm sure no ice or anything on the road. Not looking good.....

I felt bad, but my first thought was also wondering if there was a relapse with pills given the recent surgery.

Hope he's OK.

Ugh. Hope he's ok. I tend to agree that the cause of this crash is not likely to look good for Tiger but we'll wait and see on those details. Authorities needed the "jaws of life" to extract him per TMZ, which means an outright total.

I don’t think he will take another swing on the pga tour again

hot take for sure but between the latest back surgery, this accident and his demeanor last weekend which suggested he wasn’t convinced he would be back soon I think the end is here for his career

Jesus, that looks bad. Definitely the end of his pro golf career.

I'll say I think it's presumptuous and a little gross to assume that he was DUI. These kinds of crashes happen every day. I've known 3 people who have been in a rollover and none of them were high.

Multiple leg injuries and already in surgery.... pretty good news for him surviving, not great for his legs.

Hopefully no amputations.

No golf for awhile, if ever again.

What a sad story.

Did you see him on the telecast sunday? He was NOT looking good. Plus he has a history of opiate abuse and just had back surgery.

Add in a daytime single car roll over with no bad weather..... kind of insane not to suspect the possibility of something like that.

Who knows what will end up being the cause, certainly might not be a DUI. But hardly reckless to consider the obvious.

It's not gross, the dude is a history of being high while driving. It's the bed he's made.

I get what you're saying and I know people make the connection. We talk in other parts of the board about not speculating without facts. Feels like a good place to use that to not judge a severely injured man based on his worst moment. I'm saying it feels like we can wait to have that discussion until we know more.

I'll assume he's driven in the 5 years since his DUI. Accidents do happen in good weather, shockingly.

Hope he makes a recovery, hope he wasn't DUI (though I fear we're correct). But I am amazed every day people survive accidents that end with cars looking like that and worse. God bless engineers.

Obviously hope for the best for Tiger and his family, but I’m in the same boat as a few posters above that this may have been “self inflicted.”

This is the Sunday interview mentioned upthread. He looked pretty ripped.

Hopefully not self-inflicted and hopefully he makes a full recovery. Sad news either way.

I agree. Moderate to critical is using words to say nothing.
Well, moderate leg injuries ARE critical injuries to a golfer, at least professionally. So at least on the career front it's hard to find a silver lining in what has come out so far.

I don't think it's gross. He has a history. We can all sit around here pretending that none of us are thinking of it being a possibility, or we can be honest with each other. Of course there are other possible causes of the crash (I rolled over my pickup truck in college after hitting black ice). And if it turns out that it wasn't drug related, that will be awesome...I guess. It won't really change much in the grand scheme of things. He'll still be suffering the same after effects, and I sincerely hope no one here will be rushing to dunk on Tiger for a DUI in which he is severely injured and the only victim.

Per NBC News: Woods was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of compound fractures in at least one leg, law enforcement sources said.

I think we all know accidents can happen in good weather., and I'm sorry you have had a lot of personal history with that.

But given all of the facts it's hardly unreasonable to bring up the possibility on a message board that it was self-inflicted.

I'm not totally sure what "moderate to critical" means, those two words have very different meanings to me.

If they needed the jaws of life and he is already in surgery for leg injuries my sense is that he will be lucky to have no amputations and walk normally eventually after all of this. Golf of course is way way way on the back burner, perhaps gone for good.

Could have been for any reason. Looking at his phone sending a text, a small animal tries to race across the road and he swerves a little to avoid it, going too fast and something in his car goes wrong....all sorts of possibilities. And yes, being under the influence in some capacity is one of those possibilities.

Is wondering aloud about a possible DUI and different than others who immediately concluded his career is over?

Yes--one involves moral condemnation and one does not; one involves a greater level of speculation than the other (jaws of life plus reptuable reports of surgery gets you a lot closer to considering this a career ending injury than the fact of an accident gets you close to the conclusion of self inflicted or DUI).

EDIT: Of course on another level it doesn't matter at all because we're just all talking on a chatgroup and likely don't know tiger or his circle, don't affect anyone, aren't informing the general public, etc. so our views are pretty unimportant and irrelevant.

I know compound fractures aren't the death sentence they were before antibiotics, but eeeeesh.

There is a law enforcement report that said he was speeding and lost control of the vehicle. Probably as simple as that.
Looks like there is a Genesis logo on the side of the car in one of the accident pictures so maybe it's a loaner GV80 from the tournament. Entirely possible it's not his car, he's wasn't used to it, and just got himself into trouble. Hopefully that's all there is to it.

Jaws of life being used doesn't necessarily correlate with severity of injuries. (not disputing the reports of the severity of his injuries) It's more about the car itself and the damage it sustained / position it, and the passengers, are in
