Friedman publicly narrowed the choice down to Beckham/Posey and waffled over the decision before they decided on Beckham on draft day. Posey was the sure thing, Beckham was the we’re smarter than everyone else choice. Big split among Rays fans (I think the poll of all the fans came out 3-3) at the time and as Posey immediately made a splash, Beckham got tagged almost from the beginning as the dumb choice, not-Posey loser. He never really lived it down.
