I find it very strange that there are people who believe Brady was seduced by Guerrero, a snake oil salesman, and is used as a puppet for him to create a health/fitness empire based only on pseudoscience.

Brady has talked about how much his shoulder hurt after practices when he was in his 20's, and how sore he'd be after games, you really don't think following Guerrero's method improved things for him on that front? Because I think that's why he became so enthusiastic about it, he had tangible, non placebo results that have helped him maintain a high level of performance in his 40's.
I don't like Guerrero either, and a lot of what he preaches is obvious bullshit, but even if the rest is just common sense stuff (work on pliability, hidrate, eat well, rest, don't overwork your muscles) it's shady that he sells it as a revolutionary method, but I don't think every aspect of it is made up and that Brady is just entranced by Guerrero's personality. He became a believer because it very likely made a real difference for him.
I think the way it's reported on makes it seem like Guerrero's stuff is 90% BS, when it is probably more like 10% BS and most of what he's doing is normal trainer stuff ... which, by all indication, he's really good at. That makes sense - "Tom Brady's personal trainer says don't eat tomatoes, drink water to avoid sunburns" is a headline, whereas "Tom Brady's personal trainer says stretch and eat healthy" is not. I'm not crying "fake news" - the media should pay attention to the odious elements of Guerrero's past - but that stuff probably doesn't have a lot to do with what the day-to-day is like.

Watched episode 1.

Fantastic.

Did them making the SB push the release up? Feels like a great set up.

When is ep2?

Per this site the dates are:

Chapter 2: Sunday, 1/28
Chapter 3: Tuesday, 1/30
Chapter 4: Thursday, 2/1
Chapter 5: Sunday, 2/4

They said on EEI that there is a 6th episode that has a TBD release date. I'm assuming that one will capture whatever happens in the lead up to next Sunday as well as the aftermath.

First, I have to admit that all those commercials for this made me thing there was a product called the Facebook Watch that Tom was promoting. Took me a while to figure out how to actually watch the documentary. And I thought I was good at the internet.

Watched it last night, though, and I think it's pretty illuminating to see just how crazy focused Tom is. Those season notebooks? They're immaculate. Everything he does is so orderly and precise. I don't really care if the long muscles shit is nonsense or what - it's that he's decided it matters and he's going to pursue a certain course of action with extreme focus. I think the message is almost PICK SOMETHING and just do that like crazy. It's basic 10,000 hours theory, I guess, but pretty cool to see it in action.

So what percent of dangerous to your health fraud is acceptable then? And what percent is optimal?

What is dangerous about anything Guerrero is doing?! He’s not giving him some fake cancer treatments or something. He’s treating sore muscles and putting in through workouts. Sheesh.
Concussion water. Hydration makes you impervious to sunburn. Hydrating to such extreme levels that you could get water intoxication, which is potentially deadly. Fake cancer treatments. And this is just off the top of my head that has been made public.

How is concussion water dangerous to his health? It's not like he is drinking some special water and then not wearing a helmet because he thinks he is immune to concussions.

Water intoxication only happens at levels of hyperhydration without sufficient electrolyte intake. I highly, highly doubt Brady is anywhere close to that level. He hydrates throughout the day, he doesn't just chug water. And a lot of his water intake is Vitamin Water, etc.

I didn't realize Brady had cancer though. Now I'm worried about next Sunday.

I think he's clinically insane. The amount of film he watches is ridiculous.

Also there was a whole bit on him agonizing about not connecting on the Randy Moss hail mary in 42. I love that he's still as pissed as us about that.

This post is so hilariously wrong and misinformed it’s the height of lunacy.

He is playing the best of any QB ever at his age. What he’s doing works. I’m sorry if you can’t comprehend hydration, nutrition, and sleep as key factors, but Brady has and I’m glad.

Fanboy rant alert:

It boggles my mind that he's as hated around the country as he is. I'm biased and I understand people get tired of winners but watching these he's just an obsessive, unassuming dork. The NFL fucked up with their witch hunts. He should be a role model around the country showing hard work and dedication pay off. He's everything JJ Watt thinks he is without the faux humble act

BUT HE DEFLATED FOOTBALLS!

I had no interest in watching this stuff, but after all the great reviews, it's very compelling.

This is great stuff.
His dedication to his craft may be obsessive, but its what his passion needs to be fulfilled.

WTF is he going to do after football?

That opening segment in E2 with the QB coach is outstanding.

Ok, I guess the tolerance for proven con artists is pretty high. My bad.
We are "tolerating it" to the same degree that we tolerate the innumerate other kinds of bullshit that pervade our society. We just don't feel the need to go beyond calling it bullshit given most folks' assessment of the impact it is having. You apparently feel differently.

Suppose Guerrero were just an osteopath? There are clear elements of bullshit in osteopathy, some of it dangerous if taken too literally. Yet osteopaths are widely accepted and many, many people get treatment from them, and the general consensus seems to be that they do some good. Would you be as outraged and hectoring as you are now?

To cut to the chase, the degree of bullshit and its impact matters. If Guerrero took up homeopathy (which is utter bullshit) and was using that to treat people, I would be with you on the front lines with my torch. And when TB12 starts peddling its "concussion water" widely and people take it seriously, then I'll start yelling. Right now Guerrero's just running a glorified spa, whose main client seems to be one Thomas Brady, obsessed rich dude.

Personally I'm tolerating it because it has zero negative impacts on my life and helps even if it's only in his head Tom Brady win constantly at 40. He could read Tom bed time stories and wave magic rocks over Tom and if he thinks it helps, then great.

I had no interest either, I assumed it was just going to be a TB12 infomercial but so far it hasn't been that at all.
Hopefully it stays that way.

Episode 2 reactions:

I think my favorite part was him watching that fucking bomb to Moss and feeling as gut-wrenched as I do every time I see it. That was one of the best throws a human being has ever made.

Also, the back and forth with Jules toward the end..."that's not my fucking job" = awesome.

I thought I heard him say that the defender made the play of his life.
That was right after Brady said what a beast Moss was during the game.
Loved that scene.

Brady's face when he watches film is like my face when I'm playing Minecraft.

Who was he throwing to in the earlier scenes? I thought it looked like Edelman, but wasn't he hurt by that time?

Totally agree on the SB 42 Moss pass. I've watched that throw over and over and continue to be astounded on a ball thrown over 70 yards in the air, under the most adverse game conditions, that was inches away from negating helmet catch. It was an amazing throw.

Good news and Bad news... which do you want to hear first?... Bad news You need a new driver. You broke my effing driver? Good news we won the super bowl... edelman and Brady

This is another good one. A lot of Jules, Amendola, and Brady up at his Yellowstone retreat.

You forgot to mention his annoying daughter ruining the entire thing at the end. Showing up acting cute wanting to cuddle with her dad and show him something. How dare she.

That was great. They were really ripping into each other in the practice sessions at the retreat. My heart skipped a beat with them on mountain bikes

What I really liked was that, even though there was a TB12 ad in the middle, they had Edelman on the footage giving his opposing view. It’s not really being forced down anyone’s throat.

The rest was great, too.

It’s almost jarring to see Brady ticking through the schedule and chalking up wins to try to see where they’ll be at the bye rather than just the standard “we’re focused on this week” line.

I thought that was more him prognosticating what would have to happen for them to have a good first half of the season after a 2-2 start than chalking up wins.

I need to go back and watch it again, but I thought he said “that’s a win” after one of them. Either way it was strange to see him looking ahead at the schedule given the official Pats mantra.

Yeah I’m not criticizing, just saying it was a different view of him. Which I guess is the point of this whole thing.

I kind of wish the episodes were longer.

So this will probably be unpopular, but I thought including Edelman's doubts about the TB12 system was a blame-the-victim setup for his injury later in the episode. The doubter was smote down.

But I did love the brodown stuff in Montana, and Edelman's delivery on the broken driver was outstanding.

That's a stone cold cynical way of looking at that exchange. You think Brady would want to be involved in a doc that victim blames one of the best receivers he's ever had and ostensibly a pretty good friend, too?

I'm not sure Tom Brady is conscious of it. But I'm not certain why that exchange between Edelman and Other Dude (confusingly also named Brady?) would be included in the doc otherwise. What does it add? We also don't hear about Amendola's workout regime.

This all might just be an artifact of the episode trying to simultaneously be a behind-the-scenes doc, a hagiography, and a lifestyle educational video. But it scanned oddly to me.

It’s a group of friends busting each other’s chops. That’s it.

These episodes are outstanding. I love all of it and I want them to never ever end. I think my favorite parts are the little bits of family time we’ve gotten. But really enjoying every part so far.

It's funny the commentary around here and around the media if Amendola was in the circle of trust and if the Pats would cut him the least 3 years.

I think you're right. He said, "if we beat the Jets, that's 4-2. Then that's a big game against Atlanta. And we'll pull it out. That's 5-2"

I think it shows that he was hopeful and they could get to the bye at 6-2. And I bet if he expounded further, he would have said something along the lines of, "honestly, I can see us going 14-2. Although at Miami could give us fits. So let's say 13-3"
