Who knows what he will do, but if he wins another ring? There’s gotta be some appeal to going out on top.
I don’t think Brady is wired that way. If he wins #8, he’ll probably start thinking about #9 right away. This is the guy who always said his favorite ring is “the next one”.

My Brady the Buc appreciation is a bit of a catch-22 - him winning the Super Bowl there brought (and if again will bring) me basically no joy and more than a little pain, but I love that he's still good. 44 and essentially tied for best QB in the league this year. Unless he starts to worry more about major injury, I really have trouble seeing him retire while still anywhere near that metric and hope he doesn't.

I think he enjoys the process as much as the results, and he realizes that once he’s out of the game as a player there is no recreating the experience.

I doubt he would enjoy the process as much going into his mid 40s if he played linebacker, but he plays QB so his training habits, the Bucs quality talent, especially at OL, and his savvy re: getting the ball out/avoiding big hits makes it possible for him to enjoy camp, practice, and games. It’s not just about the destination for him.

Yeah that is ridiculous at least based on the 2021 season
I see four games that will likely be tough. Cinncy, Chiefs, Pack, and the 9ers. And between now and then, who knows if they are awesome. Many of those teams are trending down. (Balt, Saints, Cleve, Seattle,S teelers, Saints)

Plus they get to play the NFC South.

The Rams and Dallas aren’t tough?

The win percentage of their interdivision opponents (taking away the Bucs-Rams game) was .621, which is pretty absurd. The division (after removing the Bucs games and counting everyone twice) takes it down to .556 at least, plus it's tough to see how any of them are good next year. The Saints are still in cap hell, the Falcons (despite their mediocre record) were awful, Carolina wasn't far behind and none of them have an answer at QB in an awful QB draft.

I’m wondering if it is more that Brady is tiring of Tampa. Playing for that coach has to be exhausting and where the roster be next year? It’d be funny if he went to Denver and upstaged Manning again.

There are supposedly rumors floating around of Brady retiring at the end of the season as Simmons mentioned it on his latest pod, and Perillo hinted at it.
I thought that Simmons got it from Wickersham?

I will be absolutely stunned if he retires after this season especially with his stated goal of playing until 45. I think it’s more likely he plays until 46 than he retires at the end of this season

I’d be floored after everything he has said if he retires. Especially off the year he just had. He could win the super bowl the next two years and I think he will still be playing. Personally I still believe he’s going after Blanda’s age record. I really hope he doesn’t go. Football won’t be the same without him.

Really? Seems pretty tough to me. NFC West is the best overall division in football, their "1st place in NFC" opponents are the Packers and Cowboys and the extra AFC game is against the Chiefs.

Their 2022 schedule is brutal. I have no doubt they'll regress in the wins front.
I think that predicting the ease or rigor of a schedule months out is folly. If Rodgers leaves Green Bay, how tough is that game? Every year brings teams that fall short of expectations, and others that exceed them. Until the draft and free agency, to say nothing of where a game lands on a schedule relative to injuries, it’s all the most shaky of speculations.

Brady went to Tampa because they were a quarterback away from winning. Tampa has some rather significant cap issues going into next season. He isn’t staying somewhere where he can’t win and I do not think that he wants to move his family again. His extracurricular activities are peaking. I don’t know if that means that he is retiring, I think that those things supersede his previously stated desire to play until he is 45.

But who knows, it’s really all a guessing game. He’s in the fortunate position of being able to say ‘because I want to’.

And what does "playing to 45" even mean, exactly? He turns 45 in August, which is prior to next season. If he retires this spring, isn't that for all intents and purposes "playing until 45"? And if not, what if he retires the day after his birthday?

That would remind me a bit of Ted Williams not sitting out the end of season doubleheader in 1941 (as manager Joe Cronin suggested because his .3995 BA would be rounded up to .400). "I'm f%$#ing playing"! He ended up at .406.

It's all coming together for TB to win another SB. Then he can retire. Just need Buffalo to win tonight, because you know the Bills always lose when they play in the SB.

You have TB beating the Rams as a given? I don't know . . .

Wonder if they Ramsey shadow Evans, or do the Belichick move of doubling Evans and have Ramsey smother someone else (like Gronk, think he matched up with Gronk a fair amount in his Jags days).

I gave almost no credence to the Brady retiring rumors until today, when the name Jeff Darlington appeared in the byline on the ESPN story on it.

He's as big a Brady bobo as Jim Gray.

I'm now inclined to believe it.

The bit in the story that Brady might stay because Tampa has no QB succession plan is hilarious tho. He couldn't give a shit. He left the Pats with Jarrett Stidham, he'll have zero worries leaving the Bucs with Blaine Gabbert.

Also, they did just draft Kyle Trask in the second round.

My guess is they have a handshake deal that he can go wherever he wants in return for playing out this past year.
More likely is that he can veto a deal to place he doesn't want to go. No team is going to give over complete control as you suggest.

They actually did give him complete control over his future.

“To entice Rodgers back, the Packers reportedly made a few concessions, including lopping off the final year of his current deal (it will now end after the 2022 season instead of 2023). The team also agreed not to use the franchise tag at the end of his contract, and that if Rodgers “wants to be traded [after the 2021 season], the team will acquiesce to his wishes,” according to Schefter. Put all of that together and Rodgers will stick it out at least one more year in Green Bay, then have the freedom to leave, either via a trade in 2022 or free agency in 2023.”

He can tell them he wants to be traded, and he'll veto a deal to a shitty team, but I still think there's wiggle room in that to trade him, say, to a Denver and getting his approval.

He probably would give them a list from which they can work out a deal

Tom after the game: hasn't put too much thought into retirement. Didn't speculate or give any clues. Did say that physically he feels 'great.'

Tom almost staged an amazing victory. He did almost all the things he needed to to make the comeback. But he also was part of the reason they were in such a hole to begin with.
But man, he can still play, no doubt about that.

What’s this stat mean?

Did Tampa give up 21 yards to sacks? Maybe those don't come out of the QB line, but do come out of team stats?

Man, what a rollercoaster of emotions and then a massive, massive kick in the nuts. After almost 30 years of die-hard Bucs fandom and constant misery, I checked out after finally getting to the promised land in 2003. I only got sucked back in somewhat when Tom showed up. Guess I can’t complain after last year, but wow that last Rams drive, the blitz, uggghh.
