That sucks. Always heard good things about him as a teammate and guy.

Couldn't find anything about Phillips vs. Pedro, but thought this was a pretty cool list:

dude owned Pedro. or at least seemed that way. Such a tough out
3 for 7 lifetime with a walk including the postseason, all singles. That is a .929 OPS, but maybe you have one specific AB stuck in your head?

Howard Bryant and TJ Quinn have been killing twitter with a bunch of great Phillips stories.

Quinn- Once Sox minor owner Jack Gould came through clubhouse. Said, "Hi Tony." He said, "what's up, old MF'er." TP turned to me. "Who was that?"
Bryant- Next day, getaway day. Sunday. His 40th birthday. Having seen him the night before I bet anyone in the press box Tony was going 0-for-4. TP goes 0-for-4 w/3 K's, A's down 10-8. 5th AB, 3-run, 9th inn HR off Timlin. A's win 11-10. Post Me: saw you last night TP: Fuck you did.

maybe it was Clemens that he owned? I think it was. I remember one AB where he doubled down the RF line after fouling off like 10 pitches. It was a huge rbi AB that basically decided a big game

edit: he was 29 / 87 with a slash line of .333/.396/.471 versus Clemens. that's who it was. K'd 22 times. the double right have been in a playoff game in 1988. I can't remember
