I heard the Lackey "Manumanah" audio the other day and almost got into a car accident it was so funny. I've only heard it the one time. Have they played it much?

Question for more veteran T&R listeners... have they ever done Ask a Pink Hat with a dude?

I'm waiting for the day when this happens.

They have not, but I have to believe they really want to get one soon.

Ask a Pink Hat around 8:55am
Q: Who is the guy that calls balls and strikes?
A: The guy who stands behind the pitcher, I mean catcher.....he's called "The Mounter"

They haven't. They only started doing Ask a Pink Hat last summer.

If they did start to do them with guys, I bet they call it Ask an Arm Band Tattoo.

Yeah, I heard that one. But Adolfo barely qualifies as human. And he got some questions right. Even if he thought that Washington's baseball team was the Capitals.

To which Fred responded: "The Mounter? Sounds like a gay superhero."

Simmons tweeted this after the final Cleveland game:

QUOTE
2 sports media guys who have GROVELED for BS Report invites hung me out to dry on the whole Knicks chant/Twitter thing today. Funny.

Maybe this is easily decipherable and/or has nothing to do with anything, but T&R came to mind as BS's targets here - Toucher was expressing his distaste at the stunt and they've kind of edged around Simmons before without really coming out as fans of his or not.

While it's a logical connection to make, T+R don't seem to be the types to grovel for anything, especially for invites to his podcast. I could be wrong, of course, but that type of reaction doesn't seem to be their style. I'm guessing it's someone outside of the market here.

Of course, it could be Simmons over-inflating and overvaluing how much people want to come on his podcast, as that certainly wouldn't be out of character.

T&R assumed it was them and castrated Simmons for taking things a little too personally. No word on what their opinion of Edgar Renteria is though.

They addressed Simmons this morning. Fred e-mailed him when he bashed WEEI via Twitter months ago to see if he'd come on the show. Then Simmons went on Felger and Mazz and, according to Fred, Felger reigned him in a little bit, so he e-mailed him again and said that if Simmons came on T&R, they'd let him rant all he wanted for a half an hour. Simmons responded that ESPN wouldn't let him, and that was that.

Their criticism of the chants was basically a "we're doing this through Twitter now?" lament, and not a direct shot at Simmons. Maybe there's more to it, but I heard the original criticism and this morning's response, and I tend to think this is just another instance of Simmons being legendarily thin-skinned.

While it could be anyone, T&R strike me as the most likely "culprits" that he is whining about here. Probably got a call from one of his local buddies that told him that T&R were trashing him. Simmons "begging" is probably a couple of requests to get him on their show, plus he left enough ambiguity that if called to the carpet he can always say "I wasn't talking about you."

See, this makes infinitely more sense to me than T+R grovelling for a BS report appearance. I heard the original criticism last week, and didn't think much of it either.

Give it a rest, Bill.

I heard them complaining about the Twitter thing last week and thought it was actually pretty tame. I agree, this definitely seems like Simmons taking things far too personally.

I didn't listen today, though, out of fear of hearing Bruins talk. I've been avoiding all things Bruins like the plague.

Same here - didn't hear T&R directly address this today. Good to know I'm not entirely crazy for thinking there might be a connection. Simmons can be such a bitch - especially because, as stated above, he left himself room to say "no, I wasn't talking about you guys".

What part of the show did it come up in? Definitely want to hear the segment.

edit: and thinking back, the way Felger handled Simmons was pitch-perfect. IIRC Simmons called in to Felger/Mazz after "feuding" with Ordway, saying stuff like "I'd rather give you guys the listeners, right?" Felger was bemused and basically said "thanks, but whatever - and also, grow up." Simmons got no satisfaction out of it... Fred has always sounded suspicious of him, but willing to give him a shot. Guess that's done.

Don't remember the exact time, but it was sometime between 8 and 8:30. I think they had just come back from commercial and were about to start talking about the Celtics when Fred brought it up.

IIRC, they didn't even mention the BS Report, even when they read his tweet, so I guess it's possible that they're not telling the whole story, but Simmons has a history of making mountains out of craters, so I tend to believe T&R.

When they stopped posting to iTunes you had to go to the Sports Hub website to download all 4 hours. When they went back to iTunes last week, full shows weren't available, but they posted 4-5 segments of the show each day. I haven't checked yet today, but they quickly mentioned something this morning about full shows being available again through iTunes.

why can't i find it on itunes, all I see up there is the one that has a few episodes from back in august, what's the new one titled as? I've been checking every few weeks as I figured they would be back up on itunes at some point and wasn't sure why they ever stopped it in the first place

I heard them mention something about "full shows" being available on iTunes again but the people managing that stuff at 98.5 are so unbelievably incompetent at anything podcast-related that I expect it'll be at least a week until they manage to figure it out. For a station run by CBS Radio it's pretty embarrassing how badly they've handled the podcasts, seeing as they never ever had an issue with them during the WBCN times.

This is a company that cut off streaming sports radio to listeners outside the US because of royalty issues. Makes no sense you say?

Well CBS Radio needed to cut off their music stations to listeners outside the US because of royalties, but their online streaming software can't differentiate between sports and talk radio and music, so they had to get rid of all of them. They're all fucking stupid, though WFAN is much better at the podcasts than the Hub.

Yeah, I guess at the end WBCN was making such little money and was so insignificant to the corporate structure that they just didn't give a shit. I was always surprised that they were able to put up entire shows to download because I know I just fast forward through all of the commercials. Can't imagine that makes the sponsors very happy.

Re. the podcasts, here's what I've been able to gather.

1. I'm not surprised they're railing on the tech support - the "improved" website powered by Wordpress is not a great implementation.
2. There is a page that, as far as I can tell, is not linked to anywhere but is live here that gives the new podcast URLs and explains that it may take iTunes some time to index the new feed - so that might actually be corrected in the near future.
3. Unfortunately, the new feed is the one with 2-4 selected segments of the show - not full episodes. So, for somebody like me who wanted to hear T&R talk about Simmons, we're SOL.
4. According to Geno who I think is their web/podcast guy, "it may not be soon" that full shows are up. (comment at the bottom of this post)

So that's that, I guess. Seems like a really backwards move - and it's really tying their hands.

Sorry, shouldn't have said iTunes - there's a link on the Sports Hub audio page (http://985thesportshub.cbslocal.com/2010/0...podcast-update/), and I opened it as a subscription through iTunes.

I got a couple of laughs, but her voice doesn't sell the humor like Bruschi's or Jack's. If they played clips from this a week from now, I probably wouldn't laugh. But if I hear Jack Edwards say "let me take off... ALL your clothes!" in five years, it will still crack me up.

Call me crazy but I thought it was funny because it was so god awful.

That being said I agree, they need to space these bits out going forward or the Mazz and Jack bits will wear thin fast as well.

I'm really starting to get sick of listening to Wallach, ever since Crash left he seems to be speaking out more and getting more and more obnoxious, almost like he was always worried that Crash would punch him in the gut if he got out of line.

There has to be someone with more sports knowledge that would be a better fit with Fred and Rich, Wallach has just been a whiny douche lately.

Adam Jones maybe?

The difficult thing is finding someone with sports knowledge who would be Ok being the 3rd wheel on the show. I would be surprised if Meterparel or Shepherd arent angling for this job, but neither have the knowledge or can communicate it well at least.

I think Amendolara would be worth a shot, he is already doing the night stuff and has a calm, concise and logical voice, but isnt Ted Sarandis serious, I think he could joke with T&R

You know what?

Oh my God...I can't believe I'm saying this. Wow.

Tanguay wouldn't be that bad in the role as 3rd wheel update guy. His sports knowledge is lacking, but he has experience in sports media. And it's not like Wallach is any tremendous sports expert or anything. All you need is a guy to read updates and "fill in the sports blanks." Tanguay does that.

Plus, and most importantly, he seems to have great chemistry with T&R and doesn't mind being the butt of the joke. He was always a good sport about that.

Wow...I can't believe I was made a "pro-Tanguay" argument. Now somebody, please, prove me wrong!

You know Fred, I've been in the business for 15 years. People yearn to hear my sports takes, and I refuse to be relegated to flash boy for you uncooth vagabonds. Muffay

I always figured that while Gresh would type in all caps, Tanguay's rich barritone is better represented in bold face.

Anyway, no, Tanguay would probably not become the 3rd chair, update reader for T&R. Especially since he'd have to get there so early in the morning.

Neither should DA, who I assume is eyeballing either the 10-2 or Mazz's seat once Gresh explodes/Mazz realizes he doesn't need to spend his afternoons with Felger. DA would be an interesting pick though, because he's 1. good, and 2. young, so he'd fit right in with T&R's shtick.

I will say one thing...Zolak is growing on me, for the same reason I love watching 5 year olds interact. They think they're people!

FTR, I was being sarcastic about Tanguay.

However, I agree Wallach sucks. This is mostly because he seems to know only a little about basketball and even less about baseball. Unless it is an act, because his opinions on baseball at least may as well be the foreward to "How not to Analyze Baseball," by Gerry Callahan.
