I just realized that tomorrow morning will probably be the first Jon Gruden "This Guy" Challenge of the season. Another reason to love the start of the NFL.

This AM they came back from a commercial and replayed an entire segment from yesterday, Adolfo interviewing fans in the Gillette parking lot waiting for the Brazil-Portugal friendly.  Then they came back from that break and it was McAdam talking about Carp's grand slam last night, so they were obviously live again.

I didn't hear them say "we're replaying this" or anything, they just went right into it. It was on Wednesday in the 8 o'clock hour and today right at 7, I appreciate trying to hit a different part of the audience at a different time, but I was a little surprised they played it off as new material (or at least didn't suggest that it wasn't new). Not complaining about this, but is anyone familiar with this as a practice? Have they done this before?

When they have done this int he past they usually announce it and replay it so people who missed it live can hear it because it was a good bit.

Shades of Guay this morning was really good. The going from "host to a beat reporter" line almost made me drive off the road.

They do that pretty regularly. Last week or the week before when Fred was out for a day he was suddenly back on the air and its because they were replaying some bit from the day before.

The "I've nailed more threes than Ray Allen" line had me rolling.

The Gresh one with solo post game beat reporter was awesome too.

They are at the Celtics charity golf tournament today.  They have had Ainge, Grande and others on today.  I would guess that we'll hear the C's on either the Hub or WBZ-AM.

I heard the Ainge, Gotham and Stevens interviews, quick recap.  Gotham talked about general NBA topics and generating fan interest this year, not that compelling.  The Stevens interview was very quick and didnt provide much insight into Stevens or his plans unfortunately.

As always the Ainge interview was interesting.  Danny projected that Rondo would be back sometime in December, but stressed that he wanted him to be healthy because he 'is a big part of this team now and in the future'.  He recapped and confirmed (again?) that he offered Rondo for Chris Paul, he told Rondo about it, and one of the biggest reasons why was late 4th quarter scoring where he felt Paul was much better than Rondo.  I found the last 4th quarter scoring piece to be very insightful.  Danny claimed that he could never have gotten more for KG and PP, said that in most talks 'he couldnt get a decent 1st round pick for aging veterans', he also thinks KG and PP will be great as the 4th and 5th best players on that team.  Danny dispelled rumors that Ray was told he was traded, Danny said that he talked to Ray about possibly being traded but never told him he actually was traded and then the deal fell through.  Danny also stated that he is always truthful when there are rumors and players ask him about them, he tells them exactly where things stand.  A really great interview

I didn't really like the Grande interview, he seemed way too stiff for these guys.

I didn't like it either, something was off.  He was either trying to hard as Northeastern suggests or really hates Wallach.

Also T + R do have a habit of letting their jokes run into the callers, leaving the callers in an awkward spot when they come on the air in the middle of some running gag. Fred also mentioned something like "I believe we'll be speaking with Mike Salk" or something, getting Grande's name very wrong before he came on. So a lot of things were weird about that call but I think things will smooth out.

The 9;30-9:45 segment won't be on their resume reel (quoteth Fred: "This is some sloppy radio") but it was also hilarious and a demonstration of why these guys are so good - they genuinely like each other and can manufacture laughs out of nothing. The topic - no shit - was whether "Shakedown" by Bob Seger was available on ITunes.

From that article:

From 6-7 p.m., 98.5's "The Baseball Reporters" hosted by Tony Massarotti finished with a 9.0. WEEI programming in the same period -- usually a lead-in to the Red Sox broadcast -- earned a 5.5, good for seventh.

T&R have Marchand on at 7 tomorrow, and Iginla at 9. The Iginla one should be really interesting. I bet they ask him about that Pierce jersey hanging in his weight room.

And that's only the second most effective way to ensure an interaction with Rick lasts 15 seconds.

I'm convinced that Iginla conflated Pierce's and Garnett's careers when he was asked about the PP34 jersey in his home gym, but no one else listening agreed with me.

I missed the Iginla interview, that audio isn't up yet, was anything good asked?

The Iginla interview was ok. They asked about the Pierce jersey in his weight room with the first question. He said he got it two years ago at a golf tournament, and it wasn't a ploy to curry favor with Boston fans. Fred seemed to believe him.

Fred actually said afterwards that he didn't believe him, neither did Wallach. Rich believed the story and asked them if they were calling Iginla a liar to which Fred responded "yes".

Edit:  This was all very lighthearted, I don't think Fred believes the story but I also don't think he thinks it is that big of a deal.

I'm pretty sure it was Wallach who had the question plainly put to him about calling Pitino a liar, since he's the one who they had built up as hating coach P.

I wasn't even listening during the Pitino segment this morning so that wasn't what I heard (they were still teasing the PItino interview when I got out of the car to get into work).  Immediately after the Iginla interview Rich said something like "you can admit I was right any time you want", which caused Fred and Wallach to both comment that they didn't necessarily believe the story.  Rich then said "are you calling him a liar" and both answered "yes".

Because I was late, I was in a fucking horrid mood.

I still laughed my fucking ass off.

Dave Portnoy at Barstool goes after T&R here: http://www.barstoolsports.com/boston/super-page/toucher-and-rich-cant-stop-sucking-each-others-dicks-over-hanging-up-on-rick-pitino/

Fred responds and buries Portnoy here: https://twitter.com/FredToucher/status/385807020281962496

Also, Fred clearly responded in comment section of the barstool post as "come-at-me-bro".

This back and forth should be interesting.

Does Portnoy hate T&R? It seems like a dumb thing to write an article about, even for Barstool. The funny thing is that he goes after T&R when it was really Wallach making 90% of the comments.

You'd think they prank called the Pope. JFC, it's Rick Pitino. He's a mealy-mouthed piece of shit who is awesome at coaching college basketball. His life is good enough that if he gets some mud on his face once every decade or so about his catastrophic Boston tenure, he should be able to wipe it off with a smile, I'd hope. When did we decide that people shouldn't have to be embarrassed for embarrassing things? Dude wrote a book called 'Success is a Choice' and then went out and failed spectacularly. The T&R call, in a just world, would have been like the tenth most humiliating reminder he's gotten of that (this month).

On the other hand, this quickly became one of those 'who can I tune out?' Issues, and they're my fav.

I love this line from the Eisenberg piece in light of the ratings news yesterday.  And yes, they wasted an opportunity to hear Pitino give some canned talk and avoid answering questions about his past.

Credit Toucher and Shertenlieb for generating national publicity for their show, I guess, but to me the segment was both unprofessional and a wasted opportunity.

I have no love for Pitino, but that was a lame, shock-jock wannabe stunt.
