I was just about to post this, holy crap was that funny this morning.  Fred has really gotten tired of Gronk's antics and it's hilarious the way they tool on him.

I was crying laughing during that bit. I love that Rich is just calling him the douche that he is. I love him on the field too, but I can't imagine not disliking Gronk in real life.

They played it for Vereen this morning to get his reaction "well, if he figures out how to build it, I want in on Florida too"

They also floated the idea of writing "time machine" on a cardboard box to see how much Gronk would pay for it.

Fred's Eddie Money impressions kill me. This morning he busted out the line "I'm evidence there's no God" to the tune of "Take Me Home Tonight" (cramming extra syllables in and all) and I almost drove off the road.

I was dying too, but what is the origins of this? Is there some back story that explains why Fred savages this guy, or is he just on him for being a disaster?

They've been on the money man for awhile now. I think it started last year with the Atlanta show that never happened, which is where those quotes were from. Then after that he did a bunch of batshit crazy interviews about his daughter and stuff

Eddie Money had a short-lived morning radio show in Atlanta on 97.1 the River (their old alma mater, I think?). The show was apparently taped in Los Angeles on a time-delay. Fred and Rich took an early interest, and the Money Man did not disappoint, providing a cornucopia of pointless and rambling reminiscences, non-sequiturs, and random, homeless-person-style free-association. Time has not been kind to the money-man's voice, and Fred's imitation is surprisingly on-point.

A good retrospective can be heard here: http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/01/06/toucher-rich-eddie-moneys-show-gets-canceled/

Mary's cancer has returned. This was on the T&R Facebook page today:

Hope everyone is having a great holiday break. Just writing this because you guys have been great about sending prayers/positive thoughts my wife Mary's way over the past year, and she could sure use them again.

We found out a little over a week ago that Mary's leukemia is back and she will have to get a transplant. There's a lot of good news here. First, we caught it early so she's a lot healthier going in this time around for her first round of chemotherapy. Second, her sister is an exact stem cell match, which lessens any post-transplant complications. Third, Mary is in full on Dalton from Road House ass-kicking mode. This time, leukemia is going down.

So any prayers/good vibes you can send her way would be great. And if you can, send some her sister's way as well, who has been at the hospital with her every minute while I've been with the kids the last week.

Thanks to everyone. Go Mary.

You have my thoughts and prayers for your wife, her sister, your kids, and you. You guys over there bring so much happiness to our world and are so great with charity events, etc. that I'm sure you've built up a load of great karma. Good luck and kick ass!

Waiting until the day after Christmas is yet another brick in the "Rich & Mary are among the classiest, best people around" wall. T&P for Mary and the rest of the family. Terrible news but we're all hoping for a happy ending.

I saw that on twitter that sucks. I wonder what she needs a transplant of, I'm guessing a kidney?

I assume Stem Cells/Bone Marrow which will support a more aggressive treatment of the leukemia.

Terrible news.  Stupid cancer.

Not only that, but even if he had said "nonplussed" he was using it incorrectly anyway. He used it in reference to everyone freaking out and going wild, making a lot of commotion. Which is, you know, the opposite.

I love the Toucher and Rich show, it is hysterical, gives me enough sports info to listen to in the morning, it's just a great part of my morning drive.  The only time this show frustrates me is on week's like this building up the AFC Championship game.  I am excited for the game, I want Pats talk, I don't care if it's the same story lines beaten to death, I just want to hear about the Pats right now.

This morning they had a some game for callers that focused around Mazz being liking to smoke pot and it being legal in Denver.  It wasn't very good and it wasn't about the Pats.  The absolutely worse part is that it made me change my dial to WEEI, which thank god, had an interview with Matt Light.  So it was tolerable, but just hearing those douche bags asking questions caused me to get angry.

It wasn't their funniest bit ever but I thought it was pretty good.  It made me laugh.

On your larger point, though, if you are truly looking for non-stop Pats talk, including beating the same story lines to death leading up to a game like this weekend's game, you should just listen to WEEI because that is the definition of what they do.  T&R really isn't the best place for truly hard hitting sports talk outside of some of their interviews.  Plus they are going to mix in their funny bits and their non-Patriot interviews (due to their affiliation with the Bruins and Celtics), so it isn't going to be nonstop Patriots.  Plus they absolutely will err on the side of NOT beating the same talking points to death, even during a week like this week.

Why would anyone want to hear non-stop, fabricated story lines?

Maybe I should reset.

I wish on weeks like this they were able to do more interviews centered on the Pats (or if it was world series week, more interviews on the sox, etc...).  Or more bashing columnists for writing stupid articles about the game.  Or just talking more about the Pats.

I'm just excited for the game and my wife and the people I work with don't feel that same excitement, so I am looking for an outlet to satisfy that need is all.

Jeez, I find interviews the least interesting part of any radio show, especially with athletes. 99% of the time these guys are coached up to be as bland as possible. Plus, when T&R are doing these, you can hear Fred struggling with his boredom.

Eh, there's a lot of confusion around this word.  Per the Oxford English Dictionary:

In standard use, nonplussed means ‘surprised and confused’: the hostility of the new neighbor’s refusal left Mrs. Walker nonplussed. In North American English, a new use has developed in recent years, meaning ‘unperturbed’—more or less the opposite of its traditional meaning: hoping to disguise his confusion, he tried to appear nonplussed. This new use probably arose on the assumption that non- was the normal negative prefix and must therefore have a negative meaning. It is not considered part of standard English.

Sorta. There's confusion about the emotional state, but that's because the physical states are observationally equivalent. Think Jim Caldwell. Someone may look like that because they are staggered or because they are unperturbed, sure, but what others see is what matters.

Wtf was with Wallach destroying the guy from Denver basically calling him a no one sports host in the 20th market?

Was he trying to be funny or just being an asshole. Big words from a glorified 50 year old update guy.

I didn't hear the interview, but during the late 7 am hour Fred was talking about the weird beef that Wallach has with him. Didn't really give the background behind it though.

Minihane states that Fred won't go on TV with him because that would "validate" Minihane.
I don't know if there was anything specific in the last day or so but that has been ongoing for a couple of months at least.

Wallach has some kind of irrational dislike/hatred towards the guy. His vague attempts to explain it have been things like the guy is a phony/smug/full of himself-- no specific beef/feud/insult exchange or anything, just Wallach hates the guy from Denver. It's weird, and it's a known thing on the show.

Yes he is, and his parents still live just outside of Boston. Darren Mckie is cohost of Denver's afternoon show, along with former Bronco Alfred Williams. They're both pretty good, and not as ridiculously homers as some other shows out here. It was weird that Wallach went off on him, but I think it was pseudo planned given how fast Mckie had the stats to defend himself.
All that said, I don't think he came off well, with his weird Welker speculation and his waffling on his pick for the game. FWIW, he's flying his 80 dad in for the game, which is a nice gesture.

I thought it was fake like the "Wallach hates Dale Arnold" schtick.

I felt he was playing up the "hate" quite a bit during their most recent interaction. I didn't get the impression it was very genuine.

Wallach is a turd who doesn't "get" it.  He has no comedic timing/talent at all, so this is believable.

I love this show and listen almost every day it must be slow because they are having my least favorite sports argument ever: Patriots fans should be happy 100% of the time.

Basically Fred is saying we can't be mad because the Patriots have won Super Bowls recently and are still dominant while other teams have it much worse. I understand they probably get a few texts from morons ripping the Pats but 99% of rational fans get that we have it really good. That doesn't mean I can't be disappointed this week. It's taken up 2 breaks and he's really arguing against nobody. I usually love Fred's rants but this one bothered me

The segue to this rant was nonsensical too.  Apparently some people were giving Fred a hard time about spending time mentioning Sanchez and the Jets....so Fred decided to go on a rant against a "vocal minority of Pats fans".  Huh?

There's no middle ground here; either John Dennis is pulling off a genius Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler type stunt, or he is a complete lunatic.
