It's just sports. In the grand scheme of things, who gives a shit if some jackass head coach of a college basketball team gets hung up on? More athletes and coaches need to get hung up on, both figurative and literally.
Few days late on this, but it probably should be noted here that Nuemy and Pitino are buddies (horse racing), so no surprise here.

What happened? I turned it on and they were talking about it but I missed the interview.
Fred was talking about Cabrara whiffing against Tazawa and Gammons got huffy and said something like, "OK, then YOU hit it!". Fred ended the interview saying that Prince Fielder was a playoff flop and Gammons simply said, "No".

Peter has periodically gotten a little testy during inverviews over the years, but at the time I thought Felger's disdain for the segment last season was a bit over the top. After hearing today's exchange, I hope and pray Gammons will be done at 98.5 after this season ends. He just doesn't have anything interesting to contribute any more.

To be fair, Fred was ranting like a buffoon about the Cabrera at bat all morning.  When Rich or Wallach tried to talk him off the ledge he just went into further raving.  Even the Detroit radio guys were more tepid than he was.  That's totally fine, he's a Tigers fan and I would have been disappointed too.  But I can't blame Gammons for not wanting to listen to him rant and rant about it.

Gammons had his TV on in the background, which was pretty rude.  In fact, Gammons was pretty rude in a quiet sort of way for the entire interview.  He brought nothing to the table but disdain for Fred, who was very respectful.  It was a dismal appearance.

The pink hat bit, which normally makes me cringe a little, was truly epic today.  You should all go listen to it once they put up the first hour for streaming.  I was crying I got laughing so hard.

I'm pretty sure he is both, he grew up in Detroit.  He has been getting bent out of shape about the Tigers for as long as I have been listening to him, at least when there is something to get bent out of shape about.  Maybe not as crazy as the Lions but there is nothing to hate/talk about wrt the Tigers as much as Matt Millen.

But yes, I know he is a Cardinals fan first.

Was this the one where the girl didn't know who was on the back of her jersey?

And Adolpho said she was bending her neck back trying to read her back when they asked the question.

It drives me crazy when these guys act like they are way too important to be bothered, like on their cell phone walking down the street, or with all sorts of shit going on around them. Find a fucking landline or at least a quiet place to do the interview.

Yeah that was pretty good stuff. T+R do such a good job interviewing, granted Bobby Orr is usually a great interview anyways. I did find it amusing when Fred kept busting Orr's balls that he was going to upstage him at his own book signing event by being more famous. That and when Orr told them they must have love and passion for radio in order to get up at 4am everyday to come in and be on the air for 6 and Fred responded with "It kills me a little bit more every day, Bobby."

Fred started to discuss FIP and how it makes the St Louis Cardinals rotation the best in baseball.

More advanced stats making their way onto the show.

He was awful.  They asked him about Bucholz and he said 'the name on the jersey means something', that didnt make any sense to me whatsoever.

Last week on Dan Patrick's show, Mitch claimed to have "never" showed someone up celebrating. While DP's TV producer showed video of Mitch celebrating and showing hitters up.

Anyone catch the interview with the Cardinals reporter today?

He managed to state the following all in about a 2 min interview:

-Michael Wacha had the best change-up in baseball as of this spring AKA before he had ever thrown an MLB pitch (this was a Wozeliak quote from ST, but still he said it on air). He was talking about Wacha like he was Pedro mixed with Cy Young mixed with baby Jesus.
-Carpenter is the best leadoff hitter in baseball (I think he actually said "no question") because he had 199 hits and scored 126 runs. There's a solid argument here as Carpenter has had a great year (.392 OBP, 6.6 WAR) but he said it so matter of factly and used RUNS SCORED as the basis for his argument that nobody had time to dispute it. The question came up because Fred asked if he was worried given how bad he looked last night and overall in the playoffs so far which seems like a valid question since he's 8/46 this year with a .290 OBP in the postseason
-Lance Lynn is an Ace because he's won the most games in the NL over the last 2 years and is "a different pitcher at Busch Stadium" whatever that means
-The Cardinals have trouble against LH SPs, especially "finesse guys like Lester".

At some point between the Carpenter and Lynn comments Fred tuned him out and rather quickly ended the interview.  I'm not a big fan of the Felger/Mazz "this team sucks everything is wrong" attitude but after hearing this idiot I think I prefer it over the Kevin-Bacon-in-Animal-House "ALL IS WELL" view. Somewhere in the middle would be nice.

Lynn is actually much better at home.  Even just counting his home numbers though, he's about as good as Lackey, who everyone is dismissing as a nobody.

Fred is by far the most knowledgeable baseball guy on the show (beating Wallach easily who I never hear cite advanced stats despite being the "nerd" of the station). He might be the best on the whole station depending on how much Mazz is a troll vs actually believing the shit he peddles with Felger.

I want to say that first and foremost, I love Toucher and Rich. I think that they're not only the best duo in the morning, but pretty much all day. Having said that, I have no idea what their program director was thinking this morning. I got into the car around 8:40 and was listening here and there until I got to work 35 minutes later and all they talked about was yesterday's NFL action. I understand that I only heard a small chunk of the day's programming but they spent a good five minutes on Dez Bryant and his hissy fit and then spent a bunch of time on the Chiefs and whether they beat anyone "good" and what the Patriots' playoff position was going to be.

I hate to say it but I changed over to Dennis and Callahan and listened to them discuss the Sox games from this weekend. I know that it's Patriots' Monday, they have a bunch of football guests that they have to get on and they're the flagship for the local NFL team; but get that stuff out of the way and talk more about the Sox and the World Series. I think what I was most surprised about is that for a show that has their finger on the pulse of the Boston sports fan, they were way the hell off (at least the parts that I heard).

They covered MLB pretty much from 6-7:15 as well. Not that its prime commuting time, but they have Mike Flynn in from 7:15ish-8, then Boomer at 8. I wasn't listening at the times you mentioned, but they covered a lot of Red Sox stuff today.

Any guesses on how much they're getting paid?

This morning they put through a caller who was butthurt about Fred's characterization of Gronk as a "douche" and the caller said something to the effect of "I can't wait until you guys are off the air, Dennis & Callahan are much funnier" and Rich made a somewhat veiled reference to the fact that WEEI was involved in trying to get T&R to switch before they re-upped with TSH.

Huh, I was half-listening and didn't catch that. Hopefully this'll come up on Chad Finn's chat tomorrow.

He said something to the effect of "if only we could let you in on the discussions we've had recently."  Maybe I read too much into the comment, but coming right on the heels of the guy calling in to say D&C were funnier, I thought the reference was pretty clear.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I loved Fred going off on how funny D&C are and how they're known for their humor.

And that whole Gronk spot was terrific. I don't think that I've laughed harder at anything they've done.

This is by far my favorite radio show ever, but when they have fifteen minutes to kill and defer to Wallach on his Red Sox musings,I can't listen. Anyone on this board can do a better job taking about the Sox than Wallach.

I hated their baseball talk this morning...drew....what does he bring?

Then rattled off sabermetric stats, with the last train being....intangibles?

Oh well, I know what im getting with them in regards to sports talk

Sorry to hijack for a second, but could anybody point me to a link of the audio of their hysterical "every player is different" Sensei Belichick bit? Can't find it anywhere, really want to share with a friend. Much obliged!
