Rich seems like a genuinely good person.  I can't imagine dealing with a third round of cancer after seemingly being in remission twice, particularly since they have young kids.  Here's hoping Mary is through the worst of it and this time she has kicked cancer's ass.  Hang in there Rich.

Also, what a contrast between Rich's attitude and genuine appreciation for his job and his audience, and the attitude of the three miserable, angry pricks at WEEI.

Yup. Yesterday or the day before when Fred was updating the crowd on Rich's status he got upset that WEEI was still throwing shots. He seemed truly fed up and said he was done with it at least until everything is sorted out. Even Dan Roche went after them and seemed pissed that people over there make fun of his broadcast and then tried to be friendly face to face. When Mr. Sunshine Dan Roche feels the need to say something you know they're really truly pricks.

Wait. They were throwing shots about Fred's wife's cancer? You can't be serious.

I think he means they were 'throwing shots' in the on-going feud that John Dennis thinks he's winning on twitter.

I don't think they've specifically made fun of Rich, his wife or her medical situation. AFAIK. Chad Finn will have the final word, as always.

No sorry for the confusion. I just meant they were still continuing the feud. I think it had something to do with how they were treating Dan. Fred made fun of him and someone across the street said something about them treating Dan like crap. I missed the beginning of the segment and only heard Fred's response to someone bringing it up. He seemed serious and not just on one of his funny rants so it got my attention.

Again, I don't think they were saying anything about Rich. I don't think even they would stoop that low. Sorry about that.

Well, not until the Jimmy Fund telethon.  For maximum impact and maximum douchebaggery.

Really missed the guys this week. Adam Jones is pretty awful and Jon Wallach is even more annoying without Fred to shut him up on occasion.

Had to turn it off today after about 15 minutes. I won't tune in again until Monday.

Agree on Wallach, it doesn't take long for him to revert to "how much air time can I take up" mode.  I'm a little surprised given the July ratings that they didn't shake up the morning replacements a bit.

I still really like Flynn, especially during NFL camp. Coming out of UMaine, grinding it out, his perspective on the NFL is pretty great. All we hear from on most channels (aka ESPN) is the stars. It's nice to hear from a borderline player who made it. Unlike Wiggy, he's not an idiot though.

I haven't listened a lot this week due to my schedule, but I generally like Adam Jones. He's not great, but he's ESPN radio. he's just there.

I've only listened to them once this week and he was steamrolling over Flynn's story about walking in on a girl in the bathroom. He was yelling and wouldn't shut up about the most banal points. "YOU HAVE TO KNOCK, FLYN! YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOCK! YOU HAVE TO! WHY DIDN'T YOU KNOCK? JEEZ, IN A SITUATION LIKE THAT, YOU HAVE TO KNOCK ON THE DOOR!"

Just shut up Wallach, shut the fuck up.

And I don't dislike Wallach most of the time. But when Fred or Rich aren't around to reign him in. He's terrible.

Wallach is the obvious weak link on that show....I have a real hard time listening to him. He comes off like a little douche bag with his annoying laugh and provoking attitude, he is just a jerk IMHO. If they replaced him with someone else who was more palatable the show would be even better. He comes across as the pukey kid in the playground who really wants to fit in and will do the slimy crap in the group to be accepted.  T&R can do without him.

Sadly I turn off the station's app now when it's not T&R and it is primarily because Wallach won't shut the fuck up and feels it's his job to keep up the T&R act.

It tells you all you need to know that Bertrand gets a shot at the big chair when Mazz or Felger are out but Wallach doens't get a sniff.

All of that aside - and I hate listening to the show without T&R on it - it was a good decision by Fred to take off this week. They weren't going to compete with D&C with the Jimmy Fund going on, and it's the one time I'm glad D&C will (and should) beat them in the ratings.

See you on Monday.

I wouldn't think so.  Maybe I'm a heartless jerk but I've always found the fundraiser to be unlistenable radio.  Gods work and all, but terrible radio.

Yea I have to agree, I do not listen WEEI at all those two days. It's depressing radio, I donate and then try not to see or listen to it anymore because it's too depressing.

I've only caught a few snippets of the show this week but Dan Roche is a good fill in for Rich - he has good chemistry with Fred and they're clearly comfortable needling each other. The bit about Dan baptizing his two week old at Cooperstown was funny. Especially when he  tried to turn it around on Fred.

Love when Roche gets fired up.  Him saying something about Fred taking his kids to "guitar fest" and Fred's cackling in response was fantastic.

Holy shit that was awesome. That whole segment from the offhand Cooperstown bathroom comment to the guitar fest was hilarious.

Now that the 1 year suspension of Josh Gordon has been upheld, Fred Toucher will be must listen radio tomorrow.  He almost went nuclear before on this topic in comparison to the Ray Rice suspension.  Can't wait.

I had to get out of the car, and the website is blocked at work, but did they ever get that guy from The League on the phone, and if so, did they hang up on him?

This bit right now is why I love T&R. Running all of their fuckups from last week including the mics going out, calling Jerry Rice "Ray Rice", being blown off by the guy from The League, etc. the self deprecation is refreshing.

Yeah, I enjoyed it as well. Being so open to poking fun at themselves gives them additional room to poke at others; they aren't "holier-than-thou". They're guys who fuck up, too.

Which one of the actors? The guy who plays Kevin. He was supposed to call in and never did, but eventually called in later in the show. It was a funny bit of them lamenting that they were so lame that a supporting actor of The League was able to blow them off.

Does anyone else stream online? The 98.5 stream has become almost unlistenable through the website. There are 3-4 different areas on the page that have a pop-up ad and the ads have been coming on blaring what feels like every ten minutes. You can't even hear over the ad to hear the show. It's been brutal. I just noticed it the last week or so.

I get it through iTunes at work and have found that it's much better than streaming via the station's site.

The radio.com app that I sometimes use to listen on the way to and from work has been especially spotty lately, FWIW.

Rich just went off on Billy Crystals intro for Jeters last game. Started at like 7:45. Absolutely hilarious. Now they are doing the top ten sappiest moments from last night's broadcast.

I don't get to listen to these guys for extended periods very often since my morning drive is normally all of 15 minutes to the train station, but driving all the way into Boston today I was able to listen to the whole Billy- Crystal/Top Ten Sappy Moments bit.  That was the first time I've laughed out loud in the car in a long time.  Fred's use of the Harry Caray impression was great, even if the impression itself was more of Will Ferrell doing Harry Caray than of the man himself.

NortheasternPJ said:
God that Billy Crystal clip was absolutely brutal. How anyone aired that bullshit is amazing.

So, so embarrassing.  That's the type of thing that a good producer and editor should look at, say, "Sunk cost," and throw out rather than use.  Awful.

That said, I now want that "Willy" clip they kept using to play every time I take a piss.

They replayed the bit this morning, put me down as thinking it's fake. Not that it was scripted or that T&R were in on it, just that the interviewee was already aware of the premise and played it up.

Between here and everywhere.
I mentioned it in the Bruins gamethread, but did anyone hear the interview with Marchand they just aired?

It was AWESOME. Marchand is pissed, and Fred did a great job of getting him to really open up about his disdain for some in the Boston media.

That was a great interview.
