Drug tested for...nicotine? What?

I swear, this show elicits the weirdest fucking stuff from people sometimes.

And it's always a lurker who has most of their posts in this thread.

I wouldn't want to be a popular radio host. Weirdos are attracted to them like flies to a rib roast.

What the fuck is this thread? Even if there was a world where bosses could…nicotine test?… employees, if a dude is smoking a pack a day, he either smells of cigarettes or mouthwash and cologne. Why am I even engaging?

Always a lurker who almost never shows up again. I don’t blame Fred for being annoyed. I do think a simple Fred’s out sick today instead of just not saying anything would help things.

I think most in this thread when Fred is unexpectedly out are more worried for him than ragging on him.

I'm convinced it's just the same troll probably setting up multiple lurker accounts.

As a lurker who posts regularly on here, it's really just because I don't have any other place to chat in-depth about this show online, and love the back and forth. I made a comment the other day about being concerned when Fred wasn't there on Monday, and the poster a few above hit it on the head, I was honestly just concerned.

I think there's a distinction to be made between the lurkers who like having a thread to discuss the show in good faith (@onthereg527, myself) and the ones who parachute in with ridiculous shitposts pretending to be related to Wallach or calling for Fred to be tested for nicotine (jesus christ man, come on).

What’s funny is if you just listen to the show, it’s very obvious what’s happening, and it’s not dramatic or sensational. Fred got a virus. Smokers cough, drinking, medication… the speculation is so stupid because he comes out and talks about what’s going on, usually in the first hour. Let the guy be sick.

(What does the show no favors, though, is if he’s out and nobody says anything. That just invites speculation. A short “Fred’s knocked out with a bad flu today, we didn’t think you’d want to hear him wheezing” would squash it.)

100%. I wasn't casting stones at all lurkers. Just that there seem to be a few (or one) who are weirdo trolls.

Sounds like Fred had COVID. He said he couldn’t come in studio because Beasley wouldn’t let him due to what he tested positive for. Why not just say you got a nasty case of COVID 2 weeks ago and not catch any shit?

happy birthday Fred!

He was saying on Friday’s show that he couldn’t taste anything so I kinda assumed

I can't be on the air live, I don't hear clapping!

He definitely thought there was a live studio audience.
What am I missing with this guy? I’m usually a podcast guy but listened again today and shut it off when he called as I was confused and not entertained. I’m not sure if this show is for me, although at times I’m highly entertained.

Rich not knowing about And1 or the mixtape tour is borderline unbelievable. Just came up following their chat with Gorman this morning and I’m still not sure it wasn’t a bit.

And1 definitely hit me at the perfect time. I was coming of age in the early 2000's. The And1 mixtape tour almost single handedly turned my passion for basketball up several notches. It was gone almost as quickly as it hit the scene. They would regularly have episodes of the tour on ESPN. Not sure if Rich was as "tapped in" to early 21st century basketball culture as some people.

If people haven't watched the Netflix documentary on this (which I'm guessing they were talking about?) it's excellent

I'm not surprised. Rich isn't really a sports fan - or at least wasn't before he was forced into it. I'm about the same age and was only vaguely aware at its peak, which more or less coincided with college and my early 20s - it was the kind of thing we'd usually leave on while battling a hangover but didn't get deep into. Looking back at it now I'm way more interested than I was back then.

I was more annoyed with Fred trying to pretend he knows about sports. Conversation was about the Chargers, and he exclaimed they suck because Kroenke is a bad owner. Also said the firing of the OC was weird because Staley's "an offensive guy".

When you have to have Rich correct you on the owner of the team, and you aren't aware that Staley's entire coaching experience has been on the defensive side of the ball, you're just a sports poser.

Rich also said this morning he had no interest in going to a Super Bowl on Sunday even if he was there all week. He'd rather just go home unless his kid wanted to really go .

That's not the worse take I've ever heard. Going to a live football game sucks. Going to a big event football game sounds like it would suck even more (I've never been to a Super Bowl). And going to a big event football game between two teams you don't give a shit about sounds like the absolute worst sporting event I can imagine.

Agreed on this. I'd much rather watch a football game on TV. I think in terms of attending a random live game without one of my team's playing, my preference is NHL -> MLB (nice weather) -> NBA.............. -> NFL.

Yet he had to be talked out of going to the Waste Management Open and standing at the 16th tee just for the experience (not something I would ever, ever consider myself tbh).

I would 100% rather watch almost any NFL game from my couch than pay to be there in person. Super Bowls included, even if the Patriots are involved.

The Waste Management Open 16th is its own beast and unlike pretty much any other golf event. That could be a lot of fun and I’d rather go to that that a neutral football game even a Super Bowl.

You couldn't pay me to attend a football game now. Was fun in my 20s but now in my 40s very solid pass.

Would LOVE to do a boys trip to the WMO though. Looks like just the funnest experience.

WMO 16th is great - did that the same weekend as Malcolm, Go!, one of the great weekends of my life.

Done the neutral superbowl, it's fine, the atmosphere is a lot of fun, wouldn't kill myself to do it, wouldn't turn it down.

Watching the team I love win a super bowl...I'd travel a long way to do it and I've gotten to do it three times already.

My Super Bowl in Glendale was fun until the actual game (18-1), I'd recommend it once but would probably never go back. For one, my ticket purchase of $1,400 on the secondary market seems quaint now. But the flight was not overly expensive, we used my friend's timeshare points to get a condo 90 minutes away for like $200-300 each, etc. Could not make it work for $2,000-ish again that's for sure.

This Irsay stuff is pure gold.
Did Wallach constantly step on Fred every time he did it and kill the joke like last time? It was funny, Fred the other day said he went back to the Irsay segment from last week and couldn't believe how badly Wallach stepped on the entire segment.
