Abad deal creates a bit of a roster crunch. I assume Layne is finally gone for Abad but who goes when Kimbrel gets activated? Buccholz trade or DFA or Kelly demotion seem to be the only options. Am I missing something?
Unless someone else leaves the 25 man as part of another trade.

I think the Dodgers gave up A LOT for 2 months of Hill and Reddick. Thoughts?
Dave Cameron's opinion from his fangraphs chat:

Dave Cameron: 1:33: "I like Hill and Reddick, and think they'll help LA, but that was a high price to pay for rentals with health questions. Think Oakland did really well."

We've held on to Buchholz for years, we finally moved him to the bullpen where he's pitched well in all non-60 MPH wind gust games, and you think he's a candidate to be DFA'ed?

I'd shift to looking towards some type of LF solution. I don't think there are any SPs left that would really help.

I' be surprised if they DFA'd him too. Especially since they apparently have found some mechanical issue in his arm slot and he's pitched better since that discovery.

^ I agree, but still explore the LF market as opposed to SP if Sale is truly off the table.

DD will probably call back in 90 minutes though

I think they should hang on to him but they need to find a spot so I was asking what the various options are to do that as I don't see any obvious moves.

Edit:I just noticed the roster crunch was being discussed in the Abad thread so I will stop doing it here.

Maybe that's because Hill has thrown five pitches since the first week of July. Also, he's thrown 76 IP this season, which is already the third most of any season in his eleven year career. And he's 36 years old.
I should have said Hill is considered a delicate flower by me also.

I think so. When you compare it to Espinoza/Pomeranz (assuming the other 2 players get you Reddick).

Grant's highly ranked, one level above AE with better numbers, and Pomeranz is controlled through 2018.

I'm also biased b/c of Grant. Just texted him and he sounds like he's good.

I like Cotton. High ERA in the PCL, but 11 K/9 and few walks as a 24 year old in AAA. Sounds MLB ready to me.

I agree, but it's not obvious to me that the Red Sox need to upgrade their rotation. Getting Reddick puts Holt back in as back-up to almost every position, gives everyone rest, and Hill might prove useful if any one of the starters goes down. I don't know the value of the Dodger minor leaguers, so I don't know how much R&H cost.* Is it clear that Hill isn't up to even pitching out of the pen? Anyway, water under the bridge.
*Edit: I see the bolded has been dealt with while I was posting.

Think BoSox bring up Benintendi prior to rosters expanding?
Dave Cameron
Yes, I think he's up very soon

What do you expect from Benintendi when up?
Dave Cameron
Average-ish bat, good D, good baserunning.

Montas: Ex-Red Sox prospect, RHSP, pitching well in AAA as a 23 year old.
Holmes: 20 y/o first rounder, LHSP RHSP, pitching well in High A.
Cotton: 24 y/o RHSP, pitching well in AAA.

All three are legitimate prospects.

I thought the Price/Tulo trades wiped their farm system out. What do they have left?

He's been pitching very well of late. Not a bad pick up - depending on the price, of course.
I believe the Twins when they said they weren't interested in dealing him because the FA class is pretty bad. So they wanted to get a good haul for him. I wonder if Pompey could be in the deal?

I think he would have been a better pick up for the Sox than Pomeranz. Probably wouldn't cost a guy as good as Espinoza. The Jays have no one like that in their system.

They were the preseason #4 (Holmes), #5 (Montas), and #10 (Cotton) guys in the Dodgers' system by BP

Planning to go on a rehab assignment when this road trip ends. So, 2 weeks away. I think we can survive in LF until then. Gomes and Nava were good enough in '13...
And this assumes no setbacks. After all this time off I'm willing to bet he's not coming back the same hitter he was when he got injured. Rather take the risk and make a trade and work him back to what he was brought here to be.

Bruce deal seems to be dead per Sherman. We can match Nimmo and two lower prospects can't we?
Dave Cameron keeps calling Bruce an "average" player because of his below-avg D, but we have all seen how important a well-timed jack in the playoffs can be worth. If we can get him for a Nimmo-type + 2 lotto tix, I'd be down for some Jay Bruce in LF.

I've wanted Bruce all summer, but they seem completely uninterested in adding a LF. Hopefully that means they are planning on calling Benintendi up rather than sticking with Holt/Swihart/Young

To those that want to deal Moncada:

Pete
How many teams would pay $62M for Moncada if they could have a do-over?
Dave Cameron
All of the ones with the cashflow available.
He's clearly worth more than that now.
