I hope someone more knowledgeable than me, particularly on the value of wins and contract ramification, can use this as a jumping off point.

Rays:

Gave up Price (cost controlled through 2015) for Nick Franklin, Drew Smyly and prospect Adames

Tigers:

Gave up Smyly, 1 year + 3 months of Austin Jackson and prospect Adames for 1 year + 3 months of Price. Will probably sign Price to the original Scherzer offer and say goodbye to Max.

A's:

Gave up Cespedes and a competitive pick for Gomes, $1M and a 3-month rental of Jon Lester

Cardinals:

Gave up Craig and Kelly for prospect Littrell, $1.75M and 1 year + 3 months of Lackey, but at only $500K for 2015

Orioles:

Gave up their #3 prospect for a 3 month rental of Miller

Mariners:

Gave up Nick Franklin for 1 year + 3 months of Austin Jackson. Gave up Almonte and Kohlscheen for Denorfia.

Red Sox:

Gave up Gomes, $1M and 3 months of Lester for Cespedes and a competitive pick. Gave up 3 months of Miller for prospect Rodriguez. Gave up prospect Littrell, $1.75M and 1 year + 3 months of Lackey (still owed 500K for being traded) for Craig and Kelly. Gave up 2 months of Drew for Johnson.

Plus minor others (Diamondbacks, Marlins, Braves, Twins, Yankees, Nationals...)

It's pretty clear that at first glance that the Mariners and Red Sox made out like bandits, and that the A's and Tigers improved themselves substantially for 2014.

It looks like the Rays and O's got fleeced.

It's historic in the shear volume of players the Sox traded today. Whatever side of the fence you sit on, this is a big day for SOSH as it will provide more material than possibly can be handled in the near future. I don't even know what to think other than I'm glad they focused on major league ready players with only a few prospects thrown in. With the team rebuilding and rookies/young players breaking in/securing positions at C (Vasquez), 3B (Middlebrooks), SS (Bogaerts), CF (JBJ) (with Holt and Betts still seeking a set position) acquiring mainly prospects did not make alot of sense. They needed major league ready players and that's what they received.
I think this will increase the chance they go out during the off-season and obtain Stanton because they can mix in ready league players, still under several years of control, with a few prospects and they have to many players and not enough positions to go around.
They definitely will need to spend alot of $ on a free agent pitcher (possibly Shields, or possibly 2 SP) and I'm confident they will.

Boy - Verlander, Price, and Scherzer against Lester, Gray, and Samardzija/Kazmir.   Or, perhaps more appropriately, Verlander, Price, Scherzer, and Porcello/Sanchez against Lester, Gray, Samardzija, and Kazmir.

Over/under on runs per game greater than 1.5?

Should be a fun series to follow.

There's no way that David Price, who will be a year younger, will sign for what Scherzer turned down almost two full years before. But you're right that they are saying goodbye to Max.
I would assume they would throw an extra year in, but assuming they had allocated money for another big time starter, I think they will get an extension done. Verlander's loss of ace status almost makes this necessary.
