If Kris Bryant is on the block, I doubt we are getting him. Other teams have more to offer. Don't think high. Think under the radar.
Vogelbach possibly? He's not good, but he's likely cheap and will work the count.

Josh Bell is similar-ish...was good, now is not, but likely cheap.

I'm guessing it is some profile like that.

I missing the Schoop love--dude has a career OBP of .300--career high of .327.
career .752 OPS and averages 27 homers per 162 games and plays the position we have a massive hole at. Also just a note, his career high was .338 back in 2017

Should be a relatively cheap acquisition, has been playing a fair bit of 1B this year for Detroit and represents a solid offensive upgrade over what the Sox currently have at the position with no long term, pricy contract associated with him.

Bell has historically hit righties better than lefties, so even if you are pessimistic, he could platoon. He also has the potential to get hot. One more year of control, so WAS might hold and hope he can regain some value in the second half.

I don’t know how we can’t get at least a reliever upgrade for some superfluous guys who won’t make the 40 man. Fulmer from Detroit? Etc.

That's why he'd be affordable in this crazy market. Dalbec's OBP is .260, and Schoop can play 2B as well. Schoop's OPS close to .800, Dalbec around .650. He's an improvement and we could probably afford the price.

Yeah, I get it. I understand he would appear to be an improvement and if we get him I hope he kills it and it always depends on the cost.

If we get him, fine, but I'd rather hope for maybe Bryant.

I was almost fooled by a post saying that people are easily fooled, by an obviously fake account. I'm losing my mind.

Yeah, right now Chavis is getting serious playing time and Danny Santana and Martin Gonzalez are just waiting in the wings. This is about improving your depth, not finding the perfect option. I mean they have had to play Dalbec at third and their catchers in the infield. Schoop would be a good fit.

Edit - Martin Gonzalez it is…

Wouldn't it be uproarious if all of these teams who decimated their farm systems didn't win and the Red Sox did. Win win.
Yeah, even if you don't think much of the prospects going out, a lot of guys are spending prospect capital for a chance to have a 50/50 shot of making the real playoffs.

I think the combination of the farm system being still only partially rebuilt and being so close to the LT is still a huge factor. Even though we reset the LR last year, it's clear that there are only a few consecutive years you can be over before ownership finds it prohibitive. The team is unexpectedly in contention which is great, but if you sacrifice your orgamizational principles so soon after starting down the current path, you run the risk of undoing the progress you painfully made.

It's like seeing COVID numbers going down a bit and saying "Hey everyone, we've done enough, no need to take precautions anymore or promote vaccines!"

Two of the best teams in baseball (by record), the Giants and Red Sox, have thus far done nothing or very little. No guarantees, but winning the offseason or trade deadline--as judged by the media--does not always translate to winning where it matters.

edit--that post did not age well....
