In that week, they went from 2nd place in the division and 1.5 games out to 3rd place and 7 games out. They're trending in the wrong direction and their competition isn't. They never really should have been buying in the first place.very puzzling Twins go from buyer to seller in one week
Manny in 2008?Is Darvish to the biggest last minute deal in years?
I can't recall a single deal coming in after 4 PM as big as that one.
Haha for real? Pretty big one in 2004 that seemed to come out of nowhere at the last minute. Is Darvish to the biggest last minute deal in years?

For what?Darvish to Dodgers.
Bit hyperbolic on my part, for sure.Haha for real? Pretty big one in 2004 that seemed to come out of nowhere at the last minute.
Darvish might be even bigger though, you're not wrong.
For LHP Tyler Watson.I think I saw somewhere on Twitter Kintzler to Nats.
2B Willie Calhoun, RHP AJ Alexy & Inf Brendon Davis headed to Texas. For what?
Would have been nice to get him. "Price" only needed to exceed equivalence of the #70 pick

They also lost Urias for the seasonI don't know how the Dodgers have been this dominant with their starters being so fragile.
Ryu, Maeda, McCarthy and Hill had all been on the DL at least two times each, and rarely go beyond 5, and Wood with his injury history as well.
It helps that the bullpen is great, but Darvish is just what they needed.
The frequent DL trips are a feature, not a bug. The league is actually a bit unhappy with how the Dodgers have used the DL this year.I don't know how the Dodgers have been this dominant with their starters being so fragile.

This seems like an odd statement. The Dodgers need to get past the Nationals and the Cubs before the Astros are a factor, and both of those teams had good deadlines as well. The frequent DL trips are a feature, not a bug. Anyway, the Dodgers just separated themselves from the Astros, and the Yankees did the same with the Red Sox. Not that I think the Red Sox should have been more aggressive than they were, but I think the Astros definitely should have been.
There was a great interview on Effectively Wild (I think) recently were the guy on the show talked about how the best teams are actually the ones who should be buying hard at the deadline because upping your championship odds from, say, 25% to 30% or so may not seem like much, but it's a big swing.
The Dodgers significantly improved their odds of winning it all this deadline.
It wasn't a statement about the playoffs. More of a power rankings kind of thing. If I was to do a post-deadline ranking it would probably look something like this:This seems like an odd statement. I actually think the Astros have been passed by both the Cubs and Nationals, primarily due to injuries that have wonked up their starting pitching. Until that straightens out, they aren't as formidable as they were in the first three months of the season. And the Yankees have closed the gap as well.It wasn't a statement about the playoffs. 2. Astos

There is a gap between 1 and 2 now, where as before the deadline I'd have had them more neck and neck.
The two front offices supposedly really hate each other, and Calhoun is a top 100 guy, which is a lot for a rental, especially one who has absolutely sucked over the last month. It seems like the Astros dropped the ball not topping the Dodgers package for Darvish. There's no good reason the Rangers wouldn't have dealt him within the division since it's an expiring contract and they're out of it. Maybe the Astros would be hesitant to deal prospects within the division, but they could have topped that without including any young core guys, and it seems like something they'll regret when it comes time to make out their playoff rotation.
That's fair, though Correa is expected back before the end of the season so I'm not dinging them too much for that. Could play out different, of course. And yeah, the AL pack in general is tighter. Both the Indians and Yankees are a bit closer to the Astros than they were a few weeks ago.I actually think the Astros have been passed by both the Cubs and Nationals, primarily due to injuries that have wonked up their starting pitching. Minor quibble: I don't see how you can rank the Rays in front of the Diamondbacks and Rockies. It wasn't a statement about the playoffs. More of a power rankings kind of thing. If I was to do a post-deadline ranking it would probably look something like this:

DBacks I agree with. Not quite sure about the Rockies, but I wouldn't fault someone else for slotting them ahead. The Rays are a legitimate thread for the WC. KC too. Had I gone further they'd have all been included. I was mostly just making a point about the top of the list, though.Minor quibble: I don't see how you can rank the Rays in front of the Diamondbacks and Rockies.
He didn't. Billy Beane said the Mariners claimed him and they worked out a deal. He's faded since the break, but I'm still surprised he made it through waivers.
Ah, that makes more sense. Did the A's acquire his dad's BBQ recipe as well?He didn't. Billy Beane said the Mariners claimed him and they worked out a deal.
That would have to involve either Mike Trout or Bryce Harper for that to change hands.Ah, that makes more sense. Did the A's acquire his dad's BBQ recipe as well?
I was so disappointed when I first heard his name, looked it up to verify it and found out this horrible truth.I doubt his dad's BBQ recipe carries any trade value, since he's no relation to the Boog Powell.
Didn't the Mets give up quite a bit to get Bruce last deadline? The Post says the Yankees were in on him but claims they wanted the Mets to eat some salary, whereas the Tribe accepted the entire salary. The prospect the Tribe send back is a 3B converted to RP that throws pretty hard but is still very very raw. Classic lotto ticket/project.
There are multiple configurations of who Bruce will be subbing for, since there are several OF on the DL at the moment.
That seems insane. I get that it's a huge contract, but I'm a little stunned that no one claimed him. Is the contract really so bad that taking him on with no loss of players is a net negative? (I'm aware that the Marlins would simply pull him back, but that shouldn't stop teams from throwing in a just in case claim).Stanton has cleared waivers...
