This has been discussed in various threads, but perhaps deserves its own. The Athletic has an article on Story's first year with the Sox and the outlook looking forward, with Xander Bogaerts' future remaining uncertain.

With Bogaerts’ opt-out looming, the question has surfaced again whether Story could slide back to short next year. In a new Statcast feature that tracks arm strength, MLB.com highlighted Story’s decline in arm strength from 82.3 mph in 2020 to 79.1 mph in 2021 to 76 mph this season, the weakest of any regular second baseman this year. It clearly hasn’t affected his play at second base, but a move back to shortstop — especially with new rules against shifting — might be different, making a stronger case for the Red Sox to retain Bogaerts.

“He can play short, he can play second, we know that,” Cora said of Story. “We know what we want next year. Hopefully he can play a lot of second base.”

Yeah, locking this, that other thread was bumped today with that same story (understandable, it is big news).
