My guess: if X leaves he’s our SS. If X stays he’s our 3B with Devers going full time DH.Huh - color me surprised.
I'm curious as to the numbers - this was Story's big chance for a SS FA pay-day. So it's either a short term show-me contract (or an opt-out) or they backed up the truck. And/or they're preparing to move on from Xander next year.
I'm curious to see what the plan is.
If they're paying him like an SS, I doubt he cares where he plays. Maybe he moves to SS after they pay X as an SS? (or X leaves but no one wants that)
Yep, Arroyo as a backup is a huge upgrade over Arauz or Sanchez. Well protected now in the event of any extended injury to Bogaerts; and the lineup is strengthened considerably.Wow this is a major upgrade for the Sox. Not only is he way better than Arroyo (who was adequate), but it improves the team’s IF depth considerably.
With the Jud Fabian pick from last year and the comp pick from Edro, they still have 3 picks before the third round even with losing this oneRed Sox will lose their second pick in the 2022 draft and $500k from their international pool for signing Story. Red Sox had gained a later pick for losing ERod.
I would imagine the deadline to pick up the 7th year option comes before the ability for Story to opt out? But yeah, basically. Pretty innovative deal and nice to see they didn’t grant an earlier opt out which I’m sure Story wantedSo how does that work? After year four Story says he wants to opt out, then the Sox have X amount of time to say, nope, we are going to keep you by adding that seventh year?
