Trophy or ring?

I'd rather a ring. You can wear a ring around and it tells people that you're a champion.

I'm sure Abe Alvarez is hanging out with his 2004 Red Sox WS Championship ring on right now, letting people know that he's a boss.

California. Duh.
I hate wearing jewelry, and most championship rings are so big and gaudy you can't wear them on a regular basis anyways.

I'd love to have a trophy, would make a great centerpiece of a man cave.

So is Phil Seibel. Bonus for him, being a lefty, he wears it on his right side so you can't help but notice it when you shake his hand.

Nailed it.

Seriously, what are you going to do with a trophy? Carry a picture of it around in your wallet and just randomly let it fall out on the table when talking to people or something?
Yeah, it looks nice in your house - but if people are seeing it, it means they're in your house already.

For some reason, it sticks in my head that you get both...

That said, with the size and brightness of Championship rings, you could get a pretty nice holder that you could display it in, and wear it out when you need to.

I personally wouldn't need to make sure that everyone I talked to knew I won the World Series. I would also probably get sick of dealing with people asking "Can I see your ring?" or "Can I try it on?" really fast.

Giving people I cared enough about to invite into my house a chance to see the trophy up close would be much cooler, in my opinion.

Trophy for sure. I'd get some enjoyment off of looking at it wherever it sat around the house, with no downside. Wearing rings sucks, and they don't display nearly as well.

A ring unless it was the Stanley Cup

That is a cool trophy.

The ring can be worn when you feel like it/want to make a statement, impress etc. Lugging around a trophy to get laid would suck, except of course it was the Stanley Cup.

Trophy. You can't lose it, it makes a nice centerpiece, and it's cooler overall

Ring.

There is only one true trophy, and that's the one they give to the team. Everything else is just a replica. The one Flannery has is an extremely cool replica, but it is not THE trophy.

The ring is legit. To SoxFaninCali's good points, I am not sure I would wear it all that often. But I would very much enjoy showing it to family and friends from time to time.

I'm surprised coaches/players/teams are able to buy additional trophies (in the non-Yankees sense).

If I was a major league player making a full year's salary, and my team went on to win the World Series, I'd definitely be signing up to have a trophy on my mantle. Cost is south of $20,000 - and it's not every year you win a world series.

Agreed. Considering the World Series bonus is significantly more than that, you'd think that everyone would just get one, because why not.

Bruce Bochy is a prince of a guy. How many teams have had such a great manager, or coach, since I've been watching sports? I'll have to make a list later.

I'd go ring. Since you're already an athlete, there's probably not a great need for help in corralling the ladies, but it couldn't hurt. Just meeting people in general, it'd be a kick to see the reaction to it.

I'd agree that a trophy feels like a copy almost. I can imagine showing it to someone at the house: "Wow, that's the World Series trophy!" "Well, it's not the trophy - John Henry has that. This is a trophy the team gave me." "Cool - where's your ring?"

Plus, I think the World Series trophy is terrible-looking (although I'm glad the Sox are collecting as many as possible - that's beautiful!).

Neither. I hate baubles and trophies. The memories are enough. The only diploma I have (didn't get one of them because I only paid up on my tuition to get my transcripts sent) still sits in the envelope it came in, on some shelf downstairs...

This trophy was, however, a very generous gift by a guy he worked for. That is the only value I'd assign to this gift.

I'd go ring. And speaking of rings, which finger would you go with for your second ring in the scenario where you have two? The first one seems obvious - ring finger on your right hand. But beyond that there's no good option. You wouldn't go ring finger on left due to wedding ring. You don't want to go middle on either hand because it would rub against either the wedding ring or the SB ring on the right hand. You're not going pinky or thumb, and index seems stupid. So what do you go with?

I've held the World Series trophy and Gabe Kapler let me wear his ring. Wear the Ring!

I worked with the Red Sox wives in the charity book drives. This led to lots of promotions involving the trophy.
