A Scud Away from Hell
Troy Brown is a Patriots HoF. He has the highest respect from BB, Brady, and pretty much all of his teammates. He also has a book out and it sounds like an awesome read:

Spotlighting a New England sports icon, this autobiography chronicles the extraordinary life and career of Troy Brown, the talented athlete who played 15 seasons with the New England Patriots. Brown demonstrates how his grit, hustle, and hard work endeared him to a generation of football fans. Brown's past is explored, relating how he made it through college and into the pros despite being given up on several times. His years with the Patriots are documented in detail, covering what it was like to play for Coach Belichick, why Tom Brady has been so successful, and the secrets behind his three Super Bowl wins. Traveling from his younger years in South Carolina through his college career in West Virginia and to the pinnacle of the NFL, this inspirational, rags-to-riches sports memoir will entertain, inform, and inspire football fans of all stripes, especially the hundreds of thousands of fans who support the Patriots—one of the most successful franchises in the league.

The Bledsoe pic and his strip of a San Diego interception are two of my favorites.

One of my favorite Troy Brown stats is the short but diverse and unusual list of people who threw him a TD pass: Tom Brady, Drew Bledsoe, Vinny Testaverde, Adam Vinatieri, David Patten, David Meggett.

Video was great.  I don't think it had maybe the sickest play of his career though, the catch he made in the 4th quarter of the Giants-Pats game in '96 where they came from down 21 or something like that and won on a late Coates TD. He made an absolutely crazy catch on his back.  The game used to be on youtube but I cant find it right now.   Got hurt doing it which kept him out of the kickoff coverage team in the Super Bowl, which of course proved costly.

I *still* can't believe he successfully got out of bounds and stopped the clock on the final drive of Superbowl 36.

I lived in Seattle at the time, and I spent the prior week hearing Huge Millen on the radio proclaim that the Patriots were toast (two weeks if you count the build up to the AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh). Some Masshole transplant called the station and screamed, "The Pats are winning Superbowl 36 for three reasons! And those reasons are Troy Brown, Troy Brown, and Troy Brown!"

Can't wait to read that book.

Remember when he did the Merriman sack dance on the way off the field in the playoffs, and the entire San Diego roster got all whiny?

Everyone Pats fan loves Troy Brown and has a play that just makes them smile.

Which he actually threw forward a yard or two.

Know you were making a joke, but I am gonna take it as an excuse to post the link for those interested. What a play! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlrSbMEgYZE

Also, he clearly laterals backwards, but his momentum makes the ball go forwards. Whats the rule there?

It's where the ball is released and where it's subsequently caught. If you slow it down, he releases it at the 50 and Harris catches it at Pitt's 49-48. It's extremely difficult to tell live. I remember one of the NFL Films productions clearly laid it out.

That call aside, which I don't blame anyone for, I remember Hochuli and his crew were just BRUTAL during that game. They missed probably 6-7 big calls and somehow managed to fuck up 3-4 replays, as well. Both teams got screwed over.

Yea, the rule as written really doesn't capture the intuitive meaning of lateral, at least for me. Rugby has the same problem - the written rule is the same as the NFL, but they ruled that such instances do not count as forward passes. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/dec/05/the-breakdown-rugby-union-forward-pass

This play is so wonderful. From the long file of "plays/details that other fans forget but Patriots fans remember," this play was FOURTH DOWN. If the defender (Jammer?) knocks the ball down, the Chargers start on their 41. If he intercepts the ball and just falls down, they lose 12 yards and start at their 30. But if you intercept it and go running around, make a football move to complete the change of possession....you run the risk of getting stripped by Troy Brown.

Here's where I say the Patriots are better prepared then everyone else, call me a homer if you must.

Troy's punt return in that game was on a rekick, and the officials lined the ball up on the wrong hashmark for the repunt. Troy promptly took it to the house, and Cowher went ballistic on the sidelines over the screwup.
