I'm referring to the way it was announced: "Rask opts out." His statement also made it seem like there was nothing wrong, which is his prerogative, but contributed to the way it was perceived.
That language is probably part of the return to play agreement in the CBA, similar to how anytime a player is unavailable the language is “unfit to play”.

I think they used opt out to indicate he's not coming back. I don't think they are required to use that language, there have been guys who have left the bubble for various reasons, namely birth of a child, and come back. If they said he's leaving the bubble to tend to a family matter then they will have to answer the "when is Tuukka coming back" question every day.

Exactly. It takes the anticipation of him coming back so that the coaches and players don't get peppered with questions every day. It eliminates a distraction in a time where they don't need anything like that.

Or people could be rational adults, step back, and go "you know what, considering the shitstorm he knew was coming, he must have had a good reason and I can be okay with that".

We don't need to package the world for the 5 year old adults. It's not the Bruin's fault. It's not Tuukka's. It's the shallow idiots that need to work on themselves.

I do hope that whenever the 21-22 season resumes Tuukka is between the pipes. 1st, because he will undoubtedly be the best player they could have in that position. Close behind that is because it would drive all the haters absolutely nuts.

Well that settles it then. Of course he needed to go.

Everyone who criticized him can fuck themselves with a fence post.
Yup, the Murrays and Felgers of the media world, and any other mouth-breathers who were questioning his "toughness" over this, owe him an unconditional public apology. Not that any of them possess the minimal decency and humility required to do that. But they all now look as fucking stupid as they are. I hope he's between the pipes on opening night of 2020 - 2021 season, and doesn't grant any of these idiots a second of access going forward.

The Greg Hill report contradicts what the Bruins said about Tuuka's family. I hope he had Tuuka's permission to disclose that.

And if it is true someone should feed a huge bag of shit to Tara Sullivan and Kevin Dupont.

Early game today. Go Bruins!
