Xavi taking the opportunity to give the full rotation a taste. Ferran, Ansu, Kessie, Eric, and FDJ all getting minutes. Only ones really missing are Bellerin and Balde.

Barca could really use a good #9 to finish of all these chances. Why didn't they go out and get one this summer?

Shit man, if you told me Barca's fortune was going to ride on Pedri, Lewa, and Raph today I would've guessed Barca took 3 points. Unlucky today. The return leg should be terrific, and Barca-Inter is gonna have huge stakes.

They have been creating great chances the past 15 minutes. That was coming.

This has been a better performance against a very good side. Defense still needs a lot of work.

I haven't cut the cord yet and don't subscribe to Paramount... so a pleasant surprise when I was scrolling stations a minute ago to see the Spurs game on Unimas.

It's bonus that I won't be able to understand the announcers.
I canceled my subscription to Paramount+ at least 6 months ago. I’m still getting the games and Beavis and Butthead (which are the only two things I use it for, aside from a rare NFL game). You might want to see if there is some kind of free tier that I’m now getting that might save you some hassle searching in the future.

Atletico played like Atletico of the last two years, which means offensive inconsistency matched with defensive blunders. Hermoso is just awful, but it is even more frustrating that the club did not sign any additional defenders given how frequently Savic and Gimenez are injured and even more frustrating that Simeone took out Reinildo instead of Hermoso. While there are moments when everything clicks (like the first game against Getafe or last match against Celta), the team cannot find a rhythm and struggles to be consistent on both sides of the ball. The problems are then exasperated given the poor roster construction.

I’m watching City-Dortmund, but Maccabi Haifa is apparently outplaying PSG and it’s 1-1 at the half. MH have great fans (they *showed up* in Berlin last year), but man, I’d have picked that as one of the biggest mismatches in history. Union bossed them last year, and Behrens and Becker aren’t Messi and Mbappe.

Okay, I've just found a rule that I think should definitely be changed. Napoli had a penalty against Rangers. It was saved but the rebound was converted by another Napoli player (not the penalty taker). However, VAR showed that that player entered the box before the penalty was struck. Now, in my mind, that should be a free kick to Rangers (as I consider it like an offside), however the rules are than the penalty is retaken, which seems highly beneficial to the attacking team given that they were the one that encroached. Rangers were lucky that they saved the second one too.

I’m watching the City-Dortmund game (Bellingham just opened the scoring!). I have some friends here who go to the Regionalliga stadium that’s right next to my new apartment (mix of Americans and English). I’m in a WhatsApp group with them called, very imaginatively, Lichtenberg 47 (name of the home team). And one of them just shared this abomination (which I thought of as he just entered the game).

I never considered this before, but you’re 100% correct. Nobody is going to encroach if they lose the penalty altogether. I love this.

Driving somewhere most likely
Vini Jr with a great run and turn up the left side, crosses to Valverde who takes the space evades a defender and slams a left footed shot in far corner. RM up 1-0 on RBL at 80’

edit now 2-0 final.

Was the Rangers player in the box early too?

Did not know that. Seems dumb to me that the Napoli player made the infraction but get rewarded. Now, if it had been cleared by a Rangers player who was similarly encroaching then it’s fair to retake the PEN. I think this happened in the Prem last year.

So I read the rule book. If players from birth team encroach (even if the defensive player doesn’t get involved), the penalty is retaken.
