The 718
That is three straight winners at the death for Spurs (one VARed off). Playing a bit shit but impressively resilient.
if my choices are to trudge back to the dressing room and face an irate Cone, or score a worldie in stoppage time, I know where I’m coming down

California. Duh.
How many teams have ever gotten 15 points in the group stage and not won the group?

I was actually hoping Rangers would beat Ajax by a goal so Ajax could qualify for the Europa League with 3 points. Alas, Rangers finished off the worst showing in the 30+ years of CL play (no points, 2 goals scored, -20 GD).

I should probably wait to post this, but hard not to look at the federations and see how they're doing for qualifying to the KO rounds:

EPL = 4/4
Bundesliga = 4/5
Serie A = 3/4
Liga Portugal = 2/3
La Liga = 1/4 (!)
Ligue Un = 1/2
Others = 1/10 (Brugge FTW!)

Hey don't count out Shakhtar yet! They go through and knock out RB Leipzig with a win over them today and they're playing at home. Yes Leipzig are pretty heavy favorites, but Shakhtar won the opener 4-1.

It's why they play the games, and we watch!!

I've said it elsewhere, but for both UCL and the WC we're currently at those peaks in the format cycle, where just before major changes (i.e., expansion) begin the competitions are incredibly competitive. There's a handful of clubs that are really punching above their weight in the group stage but that's it. Everyone here belongs. Same goes for the WC--you have maybe a handful of sides that are fortunate to have qualified, but everyone else brings real talent, organization, and ambition to the tourney.
