I kinda disagree with the announcer, gotta force Vela to the outside to cross or otherwise passes. If they score off a cross, fine. Can't let him inside for the easier shot attempt.
Well what he's saying is that you force him across the box where a CB or backtracking MF can step up and he has nowhere to go with the ball and has to pass it back out that's why he's criticizing the other defenders for hanging Beasley out to dry when they weren't really marking anyone.

Looks like DMB was looking for help from Cameron, and Cameron got distracted by the other Mexican winger flashing out wide

On the Mexico goal, the US really got beat by Chicharito's little diagonal run more than anything else. On that last replay it was so clear how he pulled Cameron and Acosta away from the central channel

DeMarcus hasn't lost much speed considering how old he is, problem is his calf muscles sometimes can't handle the strain.

BTW: despite what the announcer said, Mexico haven't used the second sub.

Edit- and they won't. Won the gamble of playing a few minutes with 10 men.

Beasley could have done a bit better. Vela had too much space to take that ball and get set, but I won't kill Beasley since Mexico had broken so quickly. Bradley had dropped way back into the middle to cover, and no one stepped into that space to cut off Vela's dribble. Poor coordination defending the counter, maybe a symptom of playing in a new formation.

Edit: From that last replay, it was pretty clearly Acosta that had dropped too deep into the box instead of standing on the 18 just ahead of a Bradley and Gonzalez. Minor mistake that Vela put punished.

I agree that Beasley was hung out to dry after getting beat. But it was bad following bad. DMB was always going to get beat, just a matter of inside or outside. He can make a move inside of Vela and give up the space outside and toward the endline. Instead he lunged outside and gave up the space inside, and from the inside it's far easier to get a shot attempt. Even if the defensive support was good, from the top of the box the shooter could get a weird deflection, either to the goal or to another Mexico player.

It was a fast play and I feel bad dissing DMB since he got his bell rung and he's playing hard as hell as usual, but that was a bad lunge

This is a pretty wild game so far. I'm with those who don't blame DMB for that goal. You try to push that guy out wide, but with the fast counter, you have to be a bit more reactive. DMB forced him a bit backwards, which is his job and no central defender or DMF came to help. Also, nice shot. Yedlin's yellow was deserved, but so was Chicharito's dive. Hope the US can keep the energy levels up in the second half.

So dumb by Moreno, that play was over he wasn't getting anywhere near that after he botched the touch.
