I can’t imagine there is a single Red Sox fan who doesn’t enjoy having Mookie Betts on the team.
Anyway, Mookie is beginning to be an enigma, at least to me.

If you'd prefer spend your time with Mookie Betts on your favorite team worrying about the market and how much more money he might make than you think he's worth while also opining that other teams won't value him in a trade scenario that's certainly your right.
It is 100 pct possible to love Mookie, love watching him play AND, at the same time (whoa!!), have concerns about how he fits into the future of a team you root for given the financial realities of the game.

Machado got well over twice what Xander got and Mookie is substantially better than him.A lot of Mookie’s WAR comes from his defense, which is marvelous, but I’m not sure other team’s owners and GMs are as sold on the value of it compared with offense. They can go along with Trout’s salary because of his stellar batting average, home runs, OBP and OPS every year. Mookie hit .264 in 2017, we know what he’s hitting so far this year, and these stick out like a sore thumb (I know Harper has also had a couple of off hitting years too). Anyway, Mookie is beginning to be an enigma, at least to me. I would hate to see him get double what Xander gets, for example.
JDM was not the same player he is now when he was dealt from Detroit to Arizona. He blossomed in the desert and became a preeminent slugger. He will certainly net a better package now than he did then, especially coming off a season where he SHOULD have been an MVP finalist and in a season where he is still producing despite the rest of the team's struggles. If Tampa or Cleveland are so hungry for a title they wanna trade us a Gleyber Torres-caliber prospect (Wander Franco, Brent Honeywell, Nolan Jones) for a few months of JDM, I'd be up for it. But if it's like the package of org boys the Tigers got from the Diamondbacks for him in 2017, I wouldn't say it's worth the risk of complicating negotiations.

When I said this:You must have super human abilities to compartmentalization your thoughts.
What’s wrong about fretting over the future relative to player you also love to watch play? Sadly, that is a big part of modern day sports.
It’s almost as if you wouldn’t even care if the Red Sox extended Mookie on good financial terms. “I can’t celebrate that - I’m too focused on watching him run the bases - he’s so great!”
I have a young son who really likes Mookie - do I pause before reinforcing that? Absolutely bc he’s going to be crushed if/when the guy leaves.
It was in response to this:GMs don't value best-in-the-league defense? Batting average? Holy moly man.
Mike Trout is off to the best start of a career of anyone in the history of the sport, what on earth does he have to do with Mookie Betts? As for this year's performance it is April 18th!
Imagine not being able to enjoy having Mookie Betts on your favorite team.
That's the context of my post. The words I chose were a response to these words, not the tangent of nonsense you've jumped in with. I was responding to the sentiments expressed in this post. If you're interested in going to bat for it, go for it. Otherwise I'll leave you to chasing your pedantic nitpick.A lot of Mookie’s WAR comes from his defense, which is marvelous, but I’m not sure other team’s owners and GMs are as sold on the value of it compared with offense.
