I thought offenses were allowed to spot the ball where they like on a try?

Is that true?  I've never seen one from the hashes, so I assumed they had to kick it from straight on.  Will certainly make it a little easier if they get to choose, but doesn't change the fact that it'll have a big effect, IMO.

This is the record the Colts will be chasing this season:

Remarkable to have a run defense so bad, opponents wouldn't even bother to pass it.

It's cheating not to try and pass against such D.

That we know about.

That the players even know about.

I'm not sure what the NFL can do to solve the McCown play. Guy went full helicopter after trying to truck past 3 defenders on the goal line from like 10 yards out.

Did teams really run on them as much as we might suspect?
I remember checking out a couple Colts vs. whoever games in the latter half of last season and being disappointed that other teams weren't just lining up and running it down their throats like the Patriots did.  How many teams are as flexible in their game plans as the pats?

Probably the Colts jumping out to a lead with a couple of quick TD strikes had opponents abandoning the running game too quickly.

I really think the NFL can't do anything about avoiding concussions. They can do better with putting players back in too quickly. But unless they change to flags, concussions will happen.

make targeting the head illegal in all circumstances would help. Defender went for the head.

Yeah, they'll have to try no hitting above (roughly) the bottom of the numbers.

But the speed of the play makes targeting anything kind of difficult. In this instance he hit his head but it's hard to say he aimed for it.

I thought the helmets were supposed to be getting better. Has the speed and violence of the game outpaced the advancements already? Or are the players not adopting the helmets?

Carpenter is kicking his XP from the left hash.

The defender did not go for the head. That's ridiculous.
That's just a football play at high speed with an unfortunate coincidence. There is only so much you can regulate. Hits like that are and just will have to re own part of the game

How bad does the score have to get to pull Luck out of the game for his own safety vs. the Bills pass rush?

Pretty sure the only meaningful equipment change that could be done to reduce concussions is to invent some sort of helmet that shatters on impact.

Eh.. He leads with his helmet right into his earhole. If the league thinks the rules against that with regards to receivers making a catch and QBs in the pocket are necessary for safety there is no reason they shouldn't apply to runners.
Put this way... If McCown were catching a ball there it would be an obvious personal foul on the defender.
