Yes he is.

Was good at Wolves but never like this.
I think he had to fill too many roles, most of which didn’t fully fit his strengths. He’s not a 9, but my memory of him there was primarily attempting to do that.

He’s more lethal slashing in as a ball-carrying winger. Obviously.

Liverpool have been so fucked by VAR its insane. That was a 50/50 and Robertson was not the one awkwardly flailing at the ball.

That is not a penalty in any sense of the word. Welbeck had lost the ball. It was gone. His challenge was the dangerous one, not Robertson’s.

it’s the foot equivalent of a handball for a deflected shot from half a hard away that hits an arm tucked against the body. It’s fucking asinine.

What can you even say anymore, that was an insane decision to deem a ‘clear and obvious error’. Welbeck feeling the contact then dropping after 3 more steps was the cherry on top

Careful of what? They’re up to.. 5 points lost to bullshit VAR calls? More? They have no shot at the title at that pace.
They don’t?

There isn’t another dominant side. Everyone has flaws. Competition up and down the table, no easy fixtures 1-16 as just shown, Brighton hard luck side this year, today’s gift point notwithstanding, could be mid table. Everyone gets VAR screwings. COVID a wildcard. Short offseason + fixture congestion = tons of injuries.

That LFC aren’t dominating =/= no shot at title. There are several teams in the mix but that’s not the same thing.

The pace is not a thing. These bonings are random distribution events. I expect them to rip off several wins in a row at some point, likely accompanied by VAR disasters in their favor.

They don’t adhere to the standard of error like the NFL actually does (mostly). If they did it wouldn’t be a vlusterfuck. 2/3 of VAR calls vs LFC would not have been made:

You can forgive Zomp for not knowing what a real penalty looks like anymore as it’s been a while since he’s seen a match without one.

There is no just universe where two people kicking lightly at a bouncing ball should end up a penalty kick.

I can't get over VAR failing to to penalize a player jumping into the knees of an attacking player and destroying his ACL.
Not making calls or even reviewing plays that severely injure players discredits the entire system.

Burnley made the mistake of playing an actual 4-4-2 and didn’t adopt the 5-4-1 shape everyone plays against City. It’s practically managerial malpractice at this point not to do so.

City are very slowly starting to play with better tempo. 1 and 2 touch football is required to open up chances.

For the billionth time, the technology is not capable of making that decision. Framerate does not allow for fractional calls like this. Fuck this sport.
You have forgotten more about the sport than I know, so don’t take this the wrong way, but why should we accept that the naked eye is superior to the technology, even with its understood limitations?

The purpose of the offside rule is to prevent goal hanging. It gives the manager and defenders some agency in being able to establish where the match is played.

When we try to determine offside at the level of a toe beyond an armpit we have long since ceased to be accomplishing the goal. There is no skill involved by either the attacker or defender at margins which are that small. No attacker can credibly claim they were purposefully inch perfect and likewise no defender can credibly claim they stepped up at just the right time. Quite frankly, the margin of error should probably be something like 3 feet and the naked eye would probably get that right 95% of the time Anthony Taylor isn’t involved

I provided some calculations upthread. The camera’s framerate creates uncertainty. Players and the ball can move on the order of more than a foot between stills. There does not seem to be a standard for what still is selected for the offside decision. Using pixels to determine offside is completely arbitrary. The uncertainty must be incorporated or it’s a total coin flip of a decision with no basis in fact.

I’m absolutely ready for Burnley to be relegated they’re somehow going back in time in their tactics. It’s al long balls to the forwards and hoping to win a second ball or free kick. It’s like a Premier League time machine

Burnley sucks in every way imaginable, down to their crest which I hate. I am ready to see them go away.

City are shredding them. This is the dominant City that we haven't seen much this season. The lack of quality of the opposition must be factored, though.
