I think the 49ers are one step ahead of the game: surround your QB with great coaches, OL, defense and don't pay them. 50M extra for a supporting cast. Won't be surprised if Purdy doesn't get paid.

Their fourth down strategy just works given how efficient they are. Even if you assume they’d get FG on both key RZ fourth downs they’ve gone for, they’ve scored more points (7 to 6) relative to that counterfactual.

I get the concern over the variance, but man they’re good.

Shanahan should not have him kick there. 58 yards is no joke, this guy is firmly on the strugglebus, and you’re playing Detroit. Just go for it.
It proves to the front office this guy can’t be the answer next year. Everyone else on the team is playing for a roster spot. Detroit’s guy just made it from like 57 with ease, they’re professionals basically in a scrimmage.

Buck/Aikman is the best broadcast team the NFL has. They’re just so comfortable.
Agreed. It’s not close IMO.

Brady dragged two really weak Ds to Super Bowl losses (46, 52). It's still an offensive league so the Lions will have a chance, but they might have to do something insane like 1 turnover max in their whole playoff run to keep up.

It sucks they don't have two weeks off here and basically the playoffs start next week - Minnesota's season has been BS, Darnold performance aside I can't fathom how they're also 14-2

I'm still mad they basically got shut out the second half of their last game in SF - they should have won it all last year

They have arguably the best defense in the league? Last matchup they got a ton of pressure on Goff, and were probably some fumble luck from a win (Goff fumbled twice and the Lions recovered both). It was a game of two very evenly matched teams.

This isn't the Cousins Vikings team from a couple of years ago, which went 13-4 but had an expected record of 8-9. This team is 14-2 with an expected record of 11-5 based on point differential. For comparison, the Lions, also 14-2, have an expected record of 12-4. The Lions have scored the most points (533) and surrendered the ninth least (333); the Vikings have scored the ninth most points (423) and surrendered the fourth least (301). They are both excellent teams.
