Trying to figure out these new CFB playoffs... Let's say Clem takes advantage of Winston suspension and wins this game. Clem goes on to win the ACC. But other than this loss, FSU wins out. Can they both make the playoffs? Does winning the ACC even guarantee a playoff spot?

Ivies started their season with all playing non conference games. All lost or are losing except Harvard, who trounced Holy Cross last night, and Yale, who beat Lehigh 54-43, thanks to two 4th quarter TDs after trailing 21-0 after only eight minutes. Lots of gaudy stats in such a high scoring game; the standout was Yale QB Morgan Roberts: 30 for 39, 356 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT (a pick-six in the first quarter), for a QB rating of 173.9.

Just tuned this in before the Clem - FSU game to see LSU punting down 17-0.  Does MSSU look that good or LSU that bad?

Prescott's played great, and so has Josh Robinson. Meanwhile MSSU's defense is asserting itself well, especially against the run -- they stuffed them 4 times inside the 5-yard-line, including twice at about the 1.

LSU hasn't really made any mistakes, but they haven't had answers on defense, and they're getting pushed around on the other side.

I mean pretty much first WR in draft ya? Montgomery at Stan and Coates at Aub, and Green-Beckham at Mizzou because he is built like a LB. Maybe one of the Baylor guys.

I don't think that Coates is the best WR at Auburn right now.  Duke Williams is.

Didn't know about the RZ stops. I guess this lends more credence to the 'SEC is the top conference' and shows why they take advantage of the out of conference games. While MSSU is undefeated, they haven't really played 'anyone,' so they are tougher to judge. Of course that's a whole other discussion. Though it sounds like to improve SoS, the SEC is mandating one of their out of conference games is vs. a major conference not some FCS team.

OU just tied WV on a 5 yard TD pass from a WR to the QB off a reverse. QB was on the goal line near the pylon and was the only guy on the right side of the field - every WV defender bit on the reverse and no one stayed home.

Made me think of that pass to Brady vs Miami like 10 years ago. Wasn't for a TD, but still the 'oh shit oh shit oh yes!' reaction.

LSU D stepping up now. Ball stripped and returned 25 for a TD. 17-9 pending XP

He could be, looks like a beast so far. Never saw any of his JUCO games. Also could be benefiting from opposing D focusing on Coates.  Stil lots of time to change draft stock.

Gurley will likely be the first RB drafted, but Ameer Abdullah will probably be second. Already has 87 yards on the ground to got with a TD catch, and we've got 7 minutes left first half.

And Oklahoma marches right back to tie it at 17. Entertaining game with lots of oddities (TD pass to QB, 56 TD FG, ref knocked out of game after collision... now OU tried onside kick on tie game with 3 min left in half - failed)

Yes they can both make the playoffs. No winning the ACC doesn't guarantee a spot. the four teams are whoever the committee thinks are the top four

Ok that's what it seemed like. Do the major bowls (Orange, Fiesta, Sugar, Rose, Cotton, Peach) that don't have playoffs that year, still host the usual matchups? Eg MSU wins B1T and aren't selected to the final 4, do they play in the Rose bowl, assuming lets say Fiesta and Peach are hosting playoffs. And if they do, do they play PAC10 #2 if Oregon goes to the playoffs? I'm trying to read the Wiki but it's not super clear. Or maybe that's the beer.

Vandy has 2 KR for TD vs the Cocks. USC special teams coach's seat has orange flames shooting out from under it right now.

On the topic of wide receivers, there are a ton of great ones in college football right now, but three of the most underrated, IMO, that should be playing at the next level are Justin Hardy from East Carolina (who is the active leader in career receptions in the NCAA, maybe yards too), Nelson Spruce from Colorado and maybe my favorite college player, Jameson Crowder from Duke.

Some others include Sterling Shepard from Oklahoma, who will likely be a slot guy in the NFL, Deontay Greenberry from Houston (who has NFL size already and pretty damn good hands), Tyler Boyd from Pitt,  Funchess from Michigan, and I wouldn't sleep on any of the guys from Oregon.

The guys from the big schools like Cooper and Beckham will obviously get the most play and likely be drafted higher than anyone else, and in most cases, rightfully so, but I can't remember a time where there were so many unbelievable wide receivers playing in the college game, and I'm just scratching the surface of names I could list right now.

There is a kid with a chance to be better than all of them and should be a household name very, very soon, and that's freshman,  KD Cannon from Baylor.  Just go and take a look at his numbers from the first three games and remember he only played a half in at least 2 of them.  He's the real fucking deal.

JohnMD, I actually like that over if Washington State can put some points on the board against the Oregon defense.  Nobody in the country throws the ball more than Connor Halliday (he had a game last year with 82 pass attempts. 82). He's thrown for over 530 yards in 2 of 3 games this year already.  However, they got shut down by Nevada two weeks ago, so that concerns me a bit.  They'll air it out and pile up yardage all night long, but will they be able to finish drives is the question.  And as always with big lines like that, the other question is if it's a blowout, how long will the Ducks keep their feet on the pedal.  I could see a 55-14 type of final score, or I could see 75-40.  If I was leaning one way or the other, I'd definitely take the over though because I always rather root for points than otherwise.

Cincinatti Sophomore QB, Gunner Kiel, who was one of the top 3 QB prospects in the country coming out of high school last year, and considered by many to be the top college QB prospect already, got his first start for the Bearcats last week against Toledo.  He went 25-37 for 418 yards and 6 td's.  Tonight, he's 24-38 for 255 and 4td's, but he's also thrown 2 picks against Miami/Ohio.  The game is on CBSSports Network (channel 856 on Comcast in Boston) if anyone is interested in catching a little bit of the kid.  He looks pretty damn good to me.

LSU with 2 TDs in 28 seconds. Another onside kick coming up inside 1:30 to play, and they're only down 34-29 now.

This would be a comeback for the ages if they pull it off.

Backup MSSU center hikes a shotgun snap 15 yards past the QB and LSU recovers.  LSU quick pass for a TD.  34-29 MSSU. Onside kick coming up...

Well, that answers that.  Thanks.  If LSU pulls this out, it would be the epitome of their fourth quarter last second madness.

Texas State could actually beat Illinois today.  Illinois is just not good and they are already down 14-6.

They ended up taking a 21-6 lead, but the Illini got a TD back just before halftime. Including that score, they went on a 36-7 run before the Bobcats got a garbage time TD with just over a minute to play.

That's an amazing statistic.  Since Les got to LSU, they have a winning record, 22-21 in games in which they were losing in the fourth quarter.  And there is a long first down pass, and the guy gets out of bounds.  Unreal.

LSU fails on the Hail Mary, still helluva an effort to make that game close.

Clem has 2nd and goal at the one, center snaps it back to the 25. Followed by needing to burn a TO for failure to get the play off in time. 3rd and goal from the 25.

Clemson manages to turn 1rst and goal from 1 foot away, into 3rd and goal from the 23.    Just Daboo being Daboo.  Tried to get fancy rather than just trying to pound the rock

and they miss the FG

Vanderbilt's just gotten within a TD of S. Carolina, 34-27, with less than 6:00 to play.

EDIT - Oh well... Cooper for 71 yards on the wildcat, and the Cocks are back up 14. Just like that.

I think Florida State is going to need a defensive or special teams score to put points on the board. TD Clemson.  That might be all folks.  I would fucking love it if Jimbo told Winston to go get his pads on.

Washington State leads Oregon 14-7 after the first quarter. Wild shootout early on. The Cougars quarterback has thrown for 160+ yards already.

19 passes in the first quarter. He had a game last year where he threw 89 passes. He might throw 100 times today.

The access bowls are so complicated that no one will really know who can/will go where until the last conference championship games.

Outside of the playoffs this year:

ACC gets a team in the Orange Bowl.
SEC gets minimum one team in Cotton/Orange/Fiesta/Peach.
Big Ten gets minimum one team Cotton/Orange/Fiesta/Peach.
Pac 12 champ is in Cotton/Orange/Fiesta/Peach ONLY if Pac12 champ isn't in the playoff.
Big 12 gets minimum one team Cotton/Orange/Fiesta/Peach.
Group of 5 gets one team in Cotton/Fiesta/Peach ONLY if they don't have a team in the playoff.
ND might get a team in the Orange if they get 9 wins and Orange prefers them to Big Ten/SEC, and they didn't play the ACC Orange team in the regular season.
There are one or two at large spots depending on all of the above, but the committee will give those spots to the highest teams they rank that aren't in an access bowl.

Righttttttt. I need that Fillion gif right now. I think that's a little more clear than the Wiki page. Thanks for that.

And FSU ties it up on a bomb where the Clem CB fell down.
