It is kind of ironic this is about defending Wentz when he threw Wentz under the bus last week
I can't decide if he's lost his mind or is just attempting to gaslight the media after (I assume) getting called on the carpet by Snyder for throwing Wentz under the bus last week.

I think Justin Fields is hurting CJ Stroud's draft prospects.
I think Ohio State hurts all of them. Best QBs to come out of OSU by wAV

Tom Tupa (most of his value is really as a punter, but wanted to mention him) - 29
Kent Graham - 21
Troy Smith - 6
Justin Fields - 6
Dwayne Haskins - 4
Art Schlister - 4

An absolutely putrid place to go if you want to be a pro QB.

What was the wAV for Cardale Jones?

My only takeaway is that while Fields has struggled, he has BY FAR the worst pass-catchers in the league, along with a bad line and terrible play-calling. It is wild that they traded up in the 1st to get a QB, then actively sabotaged any chance he had to succeed.

The Commies may have blown their chance at the first pick with that “win.” If there are two worse teams in the league, I don’t want to know about it.

Yep, I've become a firm believer that a huge part of a young QBs success, or lack there of, is driven by the franchise he's on. A guy like Jimmy G is soooo damn fortunate that he's been on the Pats and 49ers. He gets drafted by the Bears and he's probably out of the league now.

Fields may be a lousy QB, but its hard to know for sure when he has to endure the calamity that is Chicago football.

Didn't Fields come in before both the Coach and GM?

It's reached the point where I don't think my brain would be able to process an elite QB being on the Bears.

Fields has received so little help on the coaching and weapons front it's hard to judge him, but I don't think he'd look this bad if he were a great talent either. It's his second season now, Trevor Lawrence had a horrific statline in 2021, but you could also cut up a pretty substantial highlight of some incredible plays he made last year. Does Fields even have that? He seems so utterly lost I wonder if he's been broken for good.

George Blanda, while on the Bears in 1953, led the league in completions, with 169. (With a 46.7% completion rate)

best part aboutBlanda is he had 2 30+ year old records broken by 2 different Patriot QB’s.

FWIW--That TD pass last night was pretty impressive.

Hey. Watch it. He's got Harry about to make the year five jump. All he has to do is, ya know, not be a healthy scratch, then watch out!

Hey they did spend one mid-round pick on a WR.... so far he's:
1. Gotten hurt
2. been unable to beat out Dante Pettis and Imir Smith Marsette for snaps once he returned
3. fumbled 20% of his kick/punt returns.

Man, it's 15 years later and I'm still pissed at the raw deal Troy Smith got in the NFL. He had some bad timing with the Ravens where they picked Kyle Boller to finally start during Smith's rookie year in '07, and then they drafted Flacco in '08 and Smith was banished to the sideline again. He didn't get a ton of playtime, but I lived in the Baltimore area during that time and he was clearly the best QB who didn't have a starting job in the NFL. He moved over to the 49ers in 2010 and went 3-3 for a 49ers team that went 6-10, and then was out of the NFL after that season. He basically went from getting screwed over by John Harbaugh, to being screwed over by Jim Harbaugh, then went to the CFL. I would have taken him over 3/4 of the NFL starting QBs in the 2007-12 timeframe. Pro football reference page.

Akers out for personal reasons.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/rams-cam-akers-ruled-out-vs-panthers-due-to-personal-matter-sean-mcvay-non-committal-on-rbs-future/

Rams
running back Cam Akers won't play in Sunday's game against the Panthers due to personal reasons, head coach Sean McVay said on Friday. Akers did not participate in practice on Thursday or Friday in preparation for Carolina.

McVay said that the team is working through the situation but declined to speculate on Akers' future with the team.

"We're dealing with things internally," McVay said on the situation, via Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. "He is gonna be OK."

The Broncos playing 4 prime time games in the first 6 weeks of the season is some real fuckery by the NFL. Enhance the pain and the sadness of Russ. It's kind of funny, but it's still crazy scheduling.

Year to date, the NFL will have played 19 prime time games. 3 every week, plus the extra Monday night game in week 2. The Broncos will have been in over 25% of those games. They make up 3% of the league. The numbers don't work. And it obviously doesn't help that the Broncos are boring and are hard to watch.

I‘ve been reading in some football forums that Verizon customers in a couple of the northeast markets are no longer getting CBS.
  • WPIX (Channel 11, CW) in New York metro area
  • WSYR (Channel 9, ABC) in Syracuse
  • WTEN (Channel 10, ABC) in Albany
  • WPRI (Channel 12, CBS) in Providence, RI
  • WIVB Channel 4, CBS) in Buffalo
  • WPHL (Channel 17) in Philadelphia
  • WDCW (Channel 50, CW) in Washington, D.C.
  • WHTM (Channel 10, ABC) in Harrisburg
  • WRIC (Channel 8, ABC) in Richmond, VA
  • WAVY (Channel 10, NBC) in Norfolk
  • WVBT (Channel 5, Fox) in Norfolk

Those are the blacked out channels. CW in NYC and DC is kind of random.

“Following in the father-son on-air TV traditions of Jack and Joe Buck, and Marv and Kenny Albert, Ian and Noah Eagle are broadcasting games today. Ian Eagle is working Ravens-Giants on CBS, and son Noah Eagle is working 49ers-Falcons on FOX. It is Noah Eagle’s first game at FOX.”

“Father-son on-air TV traditions”
Noah has done the nick NFL broadcasts no?

Oh man, can you imagine Nantz's fucking kid announcing the Masters through 2050? That is hell on earth. It's already hell on earth. This is hell in hell. Ultra hell.
If there are indeed circles of hell, that would be one of the innermost. I’m sure his kid would say something like ‘Hello, friendos’ as a catchphrase.

You can't reach that level without reading Nantz's memoir, which is titled exactly like you think it would be
Always By My Side – A Father's Grace and a Sports Journey Unlike Any Other

I just read the title of that book and picture Mitch Albom and Nantz walking hand in hand on a Cali beach during the golden hour

Packers were setting up to punt and refs announce a Jets penalty on the bench. Basically a turnover. What a ridiculous occurrence.

Dolphins had 1st down on the 24
False start 1st and 15
20 yard pass wiped out on penalty 1st and 20
32 yard pass wiped out by penalty 1st and 30
18 yard pass 2nd and 12
9 yard pass wiped out by penalty 2nd and 22
Incomplete 3rd and 22
6 yard pass but a penalty 3rd and 28
Incomplete
Punt

So 5 penalties for 40 yards and wiping out 67 yards of gains

That was funny on Red Zone.

Hanson would be like, "Dolphins in the Red Zone," and then cut to Miami and they are on the 40.

Pitt decimated by injuries coming in, down most of the starting secondary, have lost Ogunjobi and Cole so far
