So one of the big problems with ChatGPT-type AI as it stands currently is that it really wants to give you an answer. It’s kind of like a dog trying to please its owner. So you get lots of false positives because you’ve given it the job of providing an answer so that’s what it will do until you correct it for lying.

NFL refs are like this in a lot of ways. You give them the job, a rulebook that is needlessly complicated, and make them enforce it on a game moving way too fast for them to actually see. So we get primetime games with 20+ accepted penalties because well we’ve got the whistles and we’re here so might as well do the job. They are out there looking for penalties rather than to officiate the game.
100%. And I think crews are graded on individual calls, not game management (i.e. non-interference in the feats of amazing athletes), which is really what should be the goal.

This is TERRIFIC.

he probably got a kick out of Belichick's comments tonight

Bill Belichick laid into New York Jets owner Woody Johnson on Monday night over his decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh last week.
Belichick, speaking with Peyton and Eli Manning on ESPN's alternate broadcast during the Jets’ game with the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, absolutely ripped Johnson.
“It seemed quite early to me to be making a coaching change,” Manning said.
“Yeah, well look, that’s kind of what it's been there at the Jets,” Belichick responded. “They’ve barely won over 30% in the last 10 years. The owner being the owner, just ready, fire, aim.”

I do believe the Jets are the one team Bill will not consider.

The coaching fraternity likes to look out for its own. You won't often see a coach say of another coach, "yeah that guy sucked, good move to give him the ax." The sentiments all run the other way.

Having said that, of course Bill's right and so is Manning, as much of a big-forehead knob as he might be.

Soccer-style relegation would be a boon for the NFL, by forcing absolute shit owners like Woody Johnson and Jimmy Haslam either to take true care of their teams or be forced out of the league. Since NFL owners can reap handsome broadcast revenues while their franchises exponentially grow in value, and actually get rewarded with top draft picks for failing, unfortunately the incentives actually perversely reward the Woody Johnsons of the league.

I do think Woody is *trying* to win, he’s just incredibly bad at it. He’s not like Fischer of the A’s who’s literally neglecting everything about his franchise. I’m trying to think of an NFL owner who’s clearly just cashing checks and not trying to be good. Last one was Mike Brown but he’s turned that around in recent years.

I'm no Rodgers fan, but the next sentence in that quote was pretty funny:
“It seemed a little ridiculous,” Rodgers said of the penalties generally. “Yeah, some of them seemed really bad. Including the roughing the passer on me. That’s not roughing the passer. Might as well play Sarcastaball if we’re gonna call those things."

Maybe someday an announcer will note that Rodgers has fucked up the end of dozens of games.
He's the worst comeback QB among guys of his stature by a country mile. It's ridiculous how much he sucks in these scenarios. Still 0-fer when trailing in the 4th against teams with a winning record. That's just an absurd stat.

I actually think that's where a lot of the Hail Mary prowess comes from. He rarely puts together a real drive to take the lead at the end of games, it's always 4th and 13 from his own 45 and he needs to pull something ridiculous out of his hat. He's just in those situations more often than other greats.

Rodgers threw Williams under the bus in the post game presser. Said he needed to run “the red line” and didn’t, hence the pick. He’s such an ass. Why does anyone in this league like this doofus.

I don't think too many people like this guy these days. His approval rating must be at an all time low. He's such as asshole.

You're probably right. Although his teammates still rave about him (at least until recently, maybe that's changed post-Egypt trip). And broadcasters still act like it's 2019 with hm.

The only issue is Rodgers also underthrew the "correct" route. Put it over Williams outside shoulder towards the sidelines and it's a completion. Dude's a jerk.

It really makes no sense, which is par for the course with the Crystal QB. He claimed it was a no-look pass and he was expecting the receiver to be on "the red line". Yet if that's the case he would have thrown it totally differently. Also, maybe don't try a no-look pass in that situation, idiot.

There's a talent/asshole ratio they is now tipping heavily in balance of the latter. He looks old. Can't avoid the rush consistently. He can still sling it and make reads, but when he can't improvise, he has no chance over the course of an entire season. Wait til it gets chilly. He's going to snap on one of these sacks.

Rodgers lack of mobility is really stark now, and he's just a markedly less effective player without it. Because he had it for so long, it doesn't look to me like he ever developed the kind of pocket presence that guys like Brady and Manning had. He still has elite arm talent, but without the ability to scramble for yards when the play breaks down, or more importantly to get outside the pocket and establish a new throwing platform, he is much easier to prepare for, pressure, and defend it seems. Despite having some decent numbers, and still delivering the occasional eye-popping throw like the Hail Mary last night.

I still can't believe he told Buck and Aikman that his ankles are "stronger" because he's never taped them. My God, what a dope.
